COMMITTED TOMUSICAL EXCELLENCE

Founded in 1999, Friends of Music (FoM) is a non-profit organization that promotes musical excellence through performances of classical chamber and chamber orchestra music and opportunities for music education.

We pursue these missions through the organization and funding of a professional chamber orchestra and small chamber ensembles. We also provide grants and scholarship to local schools and students.

Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra (2RCO) is now in its 11th season. It is the only professional chamber orchestra in the Eastern Panhandle.

The difference between a professional orchestra and a community orchestra is significant. Professional orchestras only utilize professional musicians. Most are teachers as well as performing artists; the time they devote to their art is evident in the quality of their performances.

We are fortunate that the Orchestra has a young, dynamic Music Director, Dr. Jed Gaylin, who joined us in 2012. His credentials are impressive but most importantly he is a creative, thoughtful person who genuinely enjoys being part of our orchestra and our community.

FoM has enjoyed strong support from the community in the past and we look forward to enriching the cultural life here in the Panhandle for generations to come.

COMMITTED TO MUSIC EDUCATION

FoM believes that support of music education is imperative to the survival and growth of music in our community. We endeavor to help our area students through grants, scholarships and free student tickets.

Student Tickets: A limited quantity of tickets is offered to area secondary schools upon request & coordination with our Operations Manager, Mrs. Jennifer Perrotte (304) 876-5765.

Grants:Since 2016 we have provided grants to Berkeley County and Jefferson County schools. Schools have received musical instruments, sheet music and instrument supplies, and other materials to support music programs.

Scholarships:Graduating High School Seniors who are planning to pursue a musical degree may apply for a $500 college scholarship.

Open Rehearsals:Our rehearsals remain open (free) to interested patrons. This is a unique opportunity to watch the magic happen! Our Music Director is happy to interact with attendees and students, offering valuable insights and detailed information about the music played at our concerts and the performance process.
