Draw a table like the one below and go through your questions. Put the questions that will be useful to you finding out more about weather and climate in one box and the questions that won’t be useful in the other box.

Sub-task 1 :

1.Choose two questions from your useful questions list.

2. Using the internet and the library to research these two questions.

3. Choose one of the questions to write an explanation about it.

4. Use the other question to produce an information poster to show what you found out.

TASK

Weather and climate are the forces of nature that dictate where and how people live. The weather influences what we wear, what we do, how we do it and where we go. Very often the weather even influences how we feel!

Sometimes extreme weather events happen. Usually people are endangered or even killed during these extreme weather events. Sometimes these events can be predicted, and people are prepared for them, but more often they are not!

Task:Choose an extreme weather event and design an information pamphlet or web-page giving young people relevant information, strategies and tips on how to keep safe and survive such an event

Sub-task 2:

1. Read the task by yourself. Then read the task again as a group.

2. In pairs use a highlighter to highlight all the KEY WORDS and PHRASES in the task. • Why do you think those are the key words or

phrases?3. Using the SEVEN SERVANTS and the KEY

WORDS and PHRASES write out as many questions as you can think of.

4. Use the chart on slide 18 to sort your questions into useful for completing the given task or not useful.

Sub-task 4:

Draft a design lay-out for your pamphlet/web-page using paper and pencil. 1.Decide on what information you will put in. What sub-headings are you going to have? What supporting pictures and illustrations will you include?2.Roughly sketch out where you will put everything.3.Make sure you 4.Using Microsoft Publisher set up your layout.5.Complete your pamphlet/web-page. Remember your target audience is children and young people. 6.Make sure you have a list of useful links or books somewhere in your design.7.Make a list of information and picture sources (where you got the information and pictures) at the end of your pamphlet/web-page.
