INTRODUCTIONThe term wearables, wearable technology and wearable devices all refer to electronic technologies or sensors and computing devices that are worn close to the body, on the body or even in the body

Its important to know that the wearables are not newLike all tech, it itself has been on a journey.And the road has been long to even get here!

Wearables are new however to the consumer space.

And just like when phones became cameras and then became smart.There will be a transition period. But this transition period seems to be getting faster in the world of today.

This means that the designer and the person building the product have to care about how the product looks and whether it matches the identity of the user, aswellas what kind of sizes the product comes in.

We need circuits that can follow the form and elasticity of its user,yet keep functioning optimally.Because living organisms are intrinsically flexible and malleable.

But conventional electronic board technology puts a limitation on wearable device design,since it is stiff and not flexible enough to bend or even fold

MC10 ,MulTek understood this challenge put forward by wearables.

And MC10 came up with extremely stretchable electronics, which is built around the idea of using two isolated electronic components attached to an elastic-substrate material,and an electrical interconnection is laid, which maintains electrical characteristics even while the substrate is stretched

14Due to the fact that these devices are more shock-resistant, cost-effective to manufacture and can be flexed or bended, they have the capability of being integrated into portable devices, clothing and packaging materials..

The main end uses for flex ckts include eletronic displays, photovoltaics,sensors, lighting and logic/memory applications etc..

In the last one year or so, the scenario of flexible electronics has rapidly changed.

Flexible electronics is in vogue for two reasons:i)first, it promises an entirely new design tool.ii)second, it cost less to make.

The technologies currently available commercially include flexible thin-film transistors and logic circuits, flexible organic LEDs(OLED) based displays,flexible memories and batteries,aswellas flexible photovoltaics and sensors.

Additionally, many types of flexible and transparent conductors are also available commercially, ranging from indium-tin-oxide(ITO) to nanotubes and nanowires.

All these materials and technologies are mature ,and the devices based on these are readily available in the market, which could be further integrated into more complex systems that can enable a wide range of applications
