Best Buddies - Who’s Who?

Peer Buddy- A student without an intellectual disability who is paired up with a Buddy

Buddy- A student with an intellectual disability who is paired up with a Peer Buddy

Associate Member; Associate Buddy-Students who are part of the chapter, but who are not paired up in a one-to-one friendship

Advisor Roles Continued

• Attends chapter activities

• Meets with key players on a regular basis

• Selects the Chapter President

• Recruits and trains committed students to run chapters

• Maintains contact at minimum twice a month with all chapters

Program Manager Role

Chapter Officer Roles

– Select chapter officers and hold regular officer meetings

– Hold an organizational meeting within the first month of school

– Recruit interested Peer Buddies

– Maintain regular communication with advisors and BB staff

– Create matches & hold an official match party

– Complete and submit paperwork by required deadlines

– Ensure that Best Buddies is registered as an official student organization on campus

– Hold at least one group activity each month

Chapter President

– Create and distribute a yearly calendar of activities with the help of the key players

– Plan, direct, and oversee all chapter activities

– Delegate tasks and appoint activities committees as needed

– Assist the CP with all other assigned tasks

Vice President

– Create chapter roster within BBOnline

– Complete and submit the monthly friendship updates by the 1st of each month

– Update BBO registration info throughout the year

– Assist the CP in completing the mid-year and end-year reports

– Keep accurate notes and attendance

– Assist the CP with all other assigned tasks

Secretary

• Coordinates and oversees chapter fundraising activities• If available, maintains school bank account with support

from Faculty Advisor • Ensures chapter adheres to school financial policies and

procedures • Ensures the chapter raises a minimum of $300 by the

required spring deadline

Treasurer

• Speaks at Organizational Meeting and chapter meetings

• Assists CP with running the chapter as needed

• Provides feedback to key players regarding how the Buddies feel

• Strives to accomplish goals set forth on the Buddy Director Checklist

Buddy Director

• Provide all officers, advisors with a calendar of deadlines, due dates, activities, and meeting dates

• Maintain communication with your Program Manager at least twice a month

• Hold at least one officer meeting a month

• Utilize your advisors, officers, and Program Manager to accomplish tasks

Team Work

• Delegation is an essential part of working as a team….One person cannot manage a Best Buddies chapter alone!

• Have clear expectations

• Follow up on previously assigned tasks

• Delegate to your Buddy Director, when appropriate

• Create committees in order to delegate larger tasks. • Examples include a fundraising committee or a

special events committee. • Allow Associate Members to serve on chapter

committees.
