The Lodge

Main Lodge

The main lodge is built and decorated with exposed mahogany and cedar with an open

bar and dining area on the ground floor and an additional common space upstairs. On

the front porch, there are two additional seating areas for post fishing drinks and

appetizers.

Bar

The bar is fully stocked with an ice machine and a variety of liquors, wines, sodas,

mixers and ice cold local beers. If any guests would like a particular liquor while staying

at La Pescadora, it is recommended that the bottle be brought down with the guests. A

bar tab will be kept for each guest to be paid at the end of the stay by cash or check

only.

Food

All meals are prepared on site by local chefs with locally sourced ingredients. The

cuisine is a combination of traditional Mayan cuisine with Caribbean and American

influences. The daily breakfast offerings include a choice of fresh fruit, eggs, meats and

pancakes. The specialty of the lodge are the traditional Huevos Rancheros. Each boat’s

cooler is packed every day with sandwiches, fruit, cookies, crackers and cold beverages

for lunch on the water.

* All meals can be altered or changed to accommodate dietary restrictions or requests.

Please inform WorldCast no later than 30 days out of any specific requirements.

Bedrooms

On either side of the main lodge, there are two single level cabins with double

occupancy rooms. Each cabin has a private bathroom, two full sized beds, screened

windows, shelving and storage area for gear, a ceiling fan, reading lamps, air

conditioning units and small deck with a personal hammock.

Air Conditioning

Each bedroom has an AC unit. Although the lodge has 24 hour electricity, the AC only

runs at night when the generator is run. This time frame is typically 7:00 or 8:00 PM to

6:00 or 7:00 AM each night.

Internet

La Pescadora has wireless internet and 24 hour power so access to the internet is

always available during your stay. There is a laptop that can be used by guests if they

did not bring a phone, laptop or tablet.

Phone

There is no phone at the lodge yet. In case of emergencies, there is access to a phone

at Lily’s (on site manager) home. A fixed, satellite phone is going to be installed soon.

Laundry

Clothing items can be washed at La Pescadora every 24 hours. There is a small charge

per item.

Drinking Water

All drinking water is purified. There is 1.5 liter bottled water in each room, and water in

the kitchen that is bought at the store in 20 liter jugs. All ice is made from purified water

including the ice machine at the bar.

Gratuities

The recommended standard base gratuity is $60.00 USD per boat, per day. If you have

an exceptional day (permit, grand slam or super slam) more is greatly appreciated. As

for house staff La Pescadora recommends $15.00 - $20.00 per client per day to divide

between kitchen, housekeeper, server, rod cleaner. A tip on the bar tab for the

bartender is also greatly appreciated. A 10% gratuity for the airport transfer is

recommended as well.

Equipment

Having the proper equipment can mean everything when fishing the waters around La

Pescadora. This list of recommended tackle will not only make the fishing experience

more comfortable but will also improve each angler’s chances at catching more and

5 [email protected] 800.654.0676

Page 7: WCA - La Pescadora - Mexico

bigger fish.

Fly Rods

Each angler should ideally have three rods: 7 weight or 8 weight, 9 weight, and 10

weight. The 7 weight and 8 weight are great for bonefish. The 9 weight and 10 weight

are ideal for permit, tarpon and snook. Extra rods are always a good thing as these fish

species are not friendly to equipment, especially rods.

Fly Reels

All reels should be saltwater specific and capable of holding a full fly line as well as 250

yards of 20-30 lbs. backing. Drag systems are absolutely paramount and must be high

quality and smooth. The reel is arguably the most important piece of equipment when

fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon or snook. These species of fish at La Pescadora will

test the limits of your reel’s drag system.

Fly Lines

Every reel should be outfitted with floating tropical fly lines that match each rod weight

(8,9, and 10). Airflo, Scientific Angler and Orvis have superb selections of saltwater

lines. If possible, carry an extra spool or line just in case the original is damaged.

Leaders

The basic leaders should be 9 feet or longer and tapered. The best and easiest plan is

to buy pre-tied bonefish, permit, snook and tarpon leaders from Scientific Anglers or

Orvis and separate spools of 10 lbs, 12 lbs, 16-20 lbs (permit), 20-60 lbs (jacks and

tarpon) tippet.

Fly Selection

La Pescadora has very limited fly selections so it is very important to bring the right flies

down with you. Please contact WorldCast Anglers or La Pescadora directly to inquire

about flies, suggestions and current conditions. WorldCast Anglers can order any flies

for guests or put together fly selections for all the species and fishing conditions one

might encounter at La Pescadora.

Shirts and Pants for Fishing

There are a multitude of brands that sell clothing specifically for fishing. Some of the

best brands are Simms, Patagonia, Orvis, Columbia, and Ex-Officio. The key aspects of

tropical fishing clothing are lightweight, breathable, quick dry and full coverage for sun

and bug protection. Shorts are very comfortable but if sun and bugs are a personal

issue, look into quick dry wading pants.

Feet Gear

Flats wading shoes are highly recommended. They have a rigid sole that help protect

your feet from any coral or shells. Simms and Orvis both carry models.

Sun Protection

Wide brimmed hats or a hats with front and rear brims and a dark under bill are very

helpful when sighting fish.

Buffs (manufactured by Buff, Simms and Patagonia) are great for protecting the face

and neck from sun and wind.

Sun gloves are also a great idea for those who want to limit all exposure. Simms, Dr.

Shade and Buff all manufacture good models.

Non Fishing Related Gear

Shirts and Pants for the Lodge

Long Sleeved Shirts - light color/ fabric

Short Sleeved Shirts/ Tops - polos, button downs, T-shirts for men, lightweight cotton

knit for women

Cotton Dresses - lightweight cotton dresses or shorts are perfect for women

For Ladies - athletic brassiere for boat rides on choppy water

Cotton Sweater, Sweatshirts or Jacket for cool mornings evenings (December - April)

Shoes - bring at least one pair of rubber soled or non-slip boat shoes. Tennis shoes or

sandals are perfect for evening and mornings around the lodge
