In Fall, 2012, we’ll be studying plate tectonics at the foot of Mt. Adams, reading from Walden Pond on the ferry to Skookumchuck Narrows, and creating short documentaries in remote nepalese villages. This is just the begining of something big.

To provide a college preparatory education incorporating successful life skills and stewardship of the world’s waterways through academic challenge, cultural immersion, and competitive kayaking.

Our Mission and Passion

Our Classroom

“The Journey is the Destination…….”

~ Dan Eldon

“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” ~ Helen Keller

“It is curious - curious that physical

courage should be so common in the

world, and moral courage so rare.”

~ Mark Twain

Gems of the Northwest

Home RiversThe Fall 2012 semester with World Class Academy will start out at

our headquarters in Trout Lake, WA in the Columbia River Gorge.

Under the shadow of Mt. Adams and with a view of Mt. Hood,

students and staff will study and paddle on the classic rivers of the

area.

From Washington, the school will

head to the rivers of B.C. Canada

running a variety of high-volume

rivers and technical creeks. Get

away from the crowded rivers of

the East and come see why B.C.

is the holy-grail for Fall kayaking.

Students and staff will get to

experience the natural beauty

of the B.C. mountains as well as

the bustling ski town of Whistler

before jumping onto a ferry and

heading to the Skookumchuck

Narrows to surf one of the world’s

largest and most dynamic waves

surrounded by the magical cedar forests of the Canadian Coast

Range.

Start off fall term with a stellar First Quarter!

After getting our fill of Northwest North America, World Class will head

to the whitewater empire of the Himalayas: Nepal

Wedged between India and China, Nepal is a mountainous region whose

massive peaks create a landscape of visual greatness that has come to

exemplify Himalayan imagery.

Nepal has 8 of the world’s 10 largest peaks including Mt. Everest and Mt.

Kanchenjunga. The people that inhabit this land have adapted their lives

to this rugged landscape and the fascinating cultures of the Chhettri,

Braham-Hill, Magar, and Tharu people will allow a glimpse into a way of

life so very different than our own Western background.

Born from these sacred peaks are the mighty rivers of Nepal and the

bloodline of the country. High-volume rivers and technical creeks

scream down the valleys and cut between the massive mountains of

this country making the biggest problem simply deciding which river to

run. In a country slightly bigger than the state of Arkansas, Nepal has

established itself as the destination with the highest

concentration of whitewater on the planet. In the Fall

of 2012, World Class will make the rivers, mountains,

valleys, and villages, our classroom and training ground,

tapping into the spiritual and physical greatness of this

proud country.

2nd Quarter: Nepal: Abroad and Beyond

Stepping into Nepal is like opening a door to a new world where our

cultural norms are questioned, where our history is told through

different eyes, our language provokes smiles and laughter, and our daily

behaviors are looked upon with curiosity. Out of our comfort zone, is

where we learn the most about ourselves and the world around us. Nepal

is a small and safe country to travel in with a long history of tourism

and a strong whitewater culture. The concentration and variety of

whitewater will allow our coaches to teach freestyle and river running

technique… all under the shadow of the Himalayas. The Marsyangdi, Sun

Kosi, and Bhote Kosi Rivers will stun those lucky enough to paddle these

sacred rivers and will act as our training ground. World Class will also

embark on the one of the crown jewels of Himalayan Whitewater: an

8-day river trip on the Karnali River.

An educational project that identifies the specific skills and abilities

of World Class Academy and how these resources can be used to

support the local communities where we travel. Each semester World

Class identifies and initiates a different project that is specific to the

international destination. These projects close the gap between our

students and the needs of our global community. The education is in the

experience. The growth is the in the solutions.

World Class is the only privately accredited kayak high school in the

world. Through the Northwest Accreditation Commission, world class

upholds the high standards of education put forth by NWAC in order

to make sure we are offering our students the best possible academic

experience. This means we have control over our curriculum and

can adapt what we teach to the environment around us. We prepare

our students for college and give them a global perspective that is

unmatched. While the heart of World Class is our curriculum, our

bloodline is rivers and kayaking. World Class Academy will provide

the coaching, training, and guidance in order to give you the skills

necessary to take your kayaking to whatever level you desire. We have

produced many of the world’s top kayakers including three freestyle

World Champions. World Class has also traveled to more international

destinations than any other paddling school, making each semester

a rich, and distinctly different experience. Please join us and see

for yourself why once you become World Class, you will forever be

changed.
