    TANK cONsTRucTION (PATENT #6,866,074 B1)

The self-supporting tank design allows for flexibility in positioning of the dewatering equipment under the classifying tank.

The lack of internal stiffeners reduces turbulence and greatly increases the settling efficiency, resulting in:

More efficient gradation splits Improved material utilization More profit per ton processed

    DuRABLE WEAR PARTs

Standard self-aligning urethane dart valves and standard snap-in urethane valve seats ensure uniform flow at the maximum rate, positive sealing and long service life.

The unique design of the urethane discharge elbows allows maximum flow at the optimum angle, reducing unwanted material spillage and reducing wear on the elbow and in the collecting flume.

    BRIDGE/sTATION DEsIGN (MODEL #71 (shOWN) AND #72)

All hydraulic plumbing is stainless steel tubing with O-ring face seal fittings and a 3-year leak-free guarantee for improved service life and a virtually leak-free operation.

24-volt DC operation provides enhanced monitoring/troubleshooting capabilities in real time while providing more reliable control and operation than conventional 120-volt AC systems.

KPI-JCI classifying tanks are engineered to maximize your profitability. The process begins with our Spec-Select Windows-based controllers and 24-volt DC bridge design, which allow simple control of the products produced, system monitoring and reporting features right from the controller. The patented design also extends to the elimination of internal tank support members, creating less turbulence and more accurate settling of the feed material. Available in sizes from 8 x 20 up to 12 x 48, the capabilities of these systems are unmatched by anything else the industry has to offer.

FuNcTIONClassification is the sizing of solid particles (typically minus 3/8 or minus #4 mesh) by means of settling. In classification, the settling is controlled so the fines or undersize material will flow away with a stream of water while the coarse or oversize material accumulates in a settled mass for re-blending into specification products.

  • MODEs OF OPERATIONThe Spec-Select I mode is the simplest method to operate. It provides independent control of each station by a percentage method to determine the amount of material discharged to each of the three product flumes at each station.

The Spec-Select II mode of operation is a dependent method utilizing minimum and maximum timer settings at each station to control material discharges and ensure product specifications are consistent.

The Spec-Select WB & WBSM Windows-based controllers are the most user-friendly and efficient control systems available. These controllers take both the Spec-Select I and The Spec-Select II control programs and present them in a Windows format for operation in either mode with the click of a button.

The standard HMI (human-machine interface) or the optional industrial HMI (for outdoor installations) make it easy to monitor function of an entire tank while also simplifying operational adjustments. No other controller package offers this degree of flexibility.

    ONLINE suPPORT

Online versions of the Operation, Maintenance and Parts Manual and electrical drawings are accessible any time the HMI is powered up.

An online troubleshooting guide is also available, allowing the operator to quickly remedy problems, reducing downtime.

    MuLTI-TAsKING cAPABILITIEs

The HMI computers are capable of running software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, while simultaneously operating the classifying tank.

Remote monitoring, troubleshooting and/or control are also available with an internet connection.

KPI-JCI features the most advanced control systems on the market, assuring you of accurate

blending to meet your specification requirements 24/7.

FuNcTIONKPI-JCI Spec-Select controllers are used in conjunction with a classifying tank to control the blending of various sand fractions into one or more specification products and an excess product. Spec-Select controllers are also a valuable source of information when troubleshooting or simply monitoring the activity occurring within a classifying tank.

    usER-FRIENDLY

Windows-based programming ensures that the Spec-Select controllers are the most user-friendly controllers on the market.

The standard Dell PC HMI (human-machine interface) includes the monitor, CPU, keyboard and optical mouse.

An optional industrial PC HMI housed in a NEMA 4 enclosure is available for outdoor installations.

    FLEXIBILITY

Changing recipes or switching between the Spec-Select I andSpec-Select II modes of operation is as simple as a click of the mouse, allowing the operator to control the classifying tank in the most efficient manner possible.

The Spec-Select series of classifying tank controllers are easily retro-fitted to competing classifying tanks.

    EFFIcIENcY

Unlimited storage of product recipes, station gradation analysis, etc. ensures that the operator has all of the necessary information to make informed decisions prior to making operational adjustments.

Alarm summary, control and history screens in the Model #72 Spec-Select WBSM controller allow the user to monitor the operational parameters of the classifying tank.

King Sand and Gravel, founded by Jerry King in the early 1980s, supplies concrete sand to ready-mix plants throughout northeast Texas. When the company acquired a new mining lease and also chose to set up a completely new processing system, King turned to KPI-JCI for the majority of its plant. At the time, however, King was not aware that KPI-JCI had developed a new classifying tank control bridge, and the manufacturer wanted to upgrade Kings classifier to include the new bridge. Capable of performing automated system monitoring of the unit, the new bridge design is able to dependably detect operating conditions and maintenance issues, and alert the operator to their existence.

As King Sand and Gravel settled into its new facility, the efficiency of its new classifier proved itself quickly to the operation. Everything that comes out of the mine gets sold as something, explains Jerry Kings son-in-law, Mike Rachel. The oversize we sell for fill and suchgenerally the largest stone we get is 45. The screen decks then separate 1.5 minus stone, 3/8 minus pea stone, before the sand slurry is directed to the classifier. From there, King uses KPI-JCIs SpecSelect system to generate

various mixes of concrete sand, until the finest material comes through the bottom of the tank and is sold as mortar sand.

It has worked out exceptionally. When KPI-JCI approached us with the upgrade opportunity, we really didnt know what we were getting into, to be honest. None of us are very computer literate, but the transition for us to go to the automated system was very easy.

VersatilityPlants can be designed to produce one or more specialty sands with very narrow gradation requirements, remove deleterious material and/or recover fines otherwise lost in the washing process.

PROF I TA B I L I T YStewardshipAs waste water discharge regulations tighten, removal of fines from the waste water stream and the ability to recycle wash water through the plant in a timely manner will continue to challenge aggregate producers.

Evolution The Series 9000 equipment can be incorporated into virtually any conventional aggregate washing circuit to augment and enhance production with minimal disruption to existing equipment.

RE L I A B I L I T YProven TechnologyAlthough relatively new to the North American aggregate industry, the Series 9000 family of equipment, now available from KPI-JCI, has been utilized in the mining industry for decades.

    9000 SERIES

SERIES 9000 DEWATERING SCREENSDewatering screens are typically single deck, adjustable incline, linear motion screens utilized to dewater fine aggregates prior to stockpiling. Available screen sizes range from 2 wide x 7 long to 8 wide x 16 long with processing rates up to 400 stph on a single unit. Dewatering screens are typically fed a sand and water slurry with a maximum feed size of 3/8 (9.5 mm), utilize screen media (urethane or wire mesh) ranging from #10 #60 mesh and will typically produce a finished product with an approximate moisture content of 8 15 percent by weight.

SERIES 9000 CYCLONESCyclones and/or separators are utilized for particle sizing, removal of slimes, dirt, fines and/or excess water to recover saleable material from a waste water stream and to dewater fine aggregates. Available in sizes ranging from 1.6 to 32 diameter, a single unit can process up to 5,700 GPM and produce overflow splits ranging from #100 #400 mesh. Units are available in a classifying configuration or in a dewatering configuration, which includes the addition of a fishtail discharge boot, siphon control valve and an extended overflow pipe.

SERIES 9000 DENSITY CLASSIFIERSDensity classifiers, also known as density separators, controlled velocity separators, flat bottom classifiers, hydrosizers and hydraulic classifiers, are hindered settling tanks utilized to remove clay, silts, slime and excess fine particles or other deleterious materials such as lignite (or other light weight materials) at very precise cut points ranging from #18 to #200 mesh. Available sizes range from 3 to 13 diameter and capacities up to 260 stph or more in a single unit depending on the application.

  • SERIES 900 ATTRITION CELLSAttrition cells, also called scrubbers, are utilized to remove clays or other physically bonded coatings from individual sand particles. Attrition cells will also break down some sand particle clusters through the attrition achieved. The scrubbing action is created via the oppositely pitched rotating blades, causing high shear and attrition (i.e. particle-on-particle) scrubbing. Available sizes range from single cell 900 gal. units to quadruple cell 4,200 gal. units. Sizing is based on the slurry feed rate in GPM and the retention time required to achieve the desired scrubbing.

SERIES 9000 PLANTSModel #9400 plants are designed for aggregate producers requiring a fines recovery plant to support their existing operations by reducing the volume of fine material reporting to the settling pond. The Model #9200 plants are designed to dewater and fine-tune sand products to a level typically not possible with traditional sand-dewatering equipment. Custom built plants are available in portable, semi-portable and stationary configuartions with various types and quantities of cyclones and various pump and dewatering screen sizes.

SERIES 9000 SIEVE BEND SCREENSSieve bend screens, also known as static arc screens and DSM screens, are utilized to dewater a fine aggregate product or to remove tramp oversize material from a fine aggregate product or most commonly to remove deleterious material such as lignite from a fine aggregate product. Sieve bend screens are available in sizes ranging from single 2 wide units to dual 6 wide units and will process between 145-190 GPM of slurry feed per foot of width depending on the separation to be made.
