“Fiorile” è una serie composta da au-toritratti in bianco e nero, in ciascuno dei quali abbino una parte del corpo con un tipo di fiore. Il titolo – nome di uno dei mesi di primavera nel calendario della Rivoluzione Francese – è qui interpreta-to come contrazione dei termini ‘fiore’ e ‘femminile’.

Il progetto è nato dal desiderio di osse-quiare la femminilità nella sua dimensio-ne più elegante e fragile.Nella gestazione dell’idea, ho deciso di rappresentare il corpo in piani ravvicinati per rafforzare i dettagli di delicatezza e vitalità. Anche se in alcune occasioni si intuisce, il mio volto non appare mai esplicitamente. La serie non è solamente una rappresentazione di me stessa, ma anche di un universo emo-zionale che condivido con le altre donne.”

Fiorile” is a series of black and white portraits in which I combine a certain part of the body with a type of flower. The title comes from

one of the months of the calendar that was crea-ted after the French Revolution, and I interpret it as the combination of the Italian words ‘fiore’ (flo-wer) and ‘femminile’ (feminine).This project was inspired by my desire to celebrate femininity in all its elegance and fragility. While I was working I decided to represent the female body with close-ups, in order to underline its deli-cate and dynamic traits. I never completely show my face, even if sometimes it might be visible. This series is not only a representation of me personal-ly, but also of an entire universe of emotions that I share with other women.”

Parlaci un Po’ di Te.Mi chiamo Julia Trotti e sono una

fotografa di moda, lavoro a Sydney, in Australia. Passo la maggior parte del tempo sognando ad occhi aperti guardando fuori dalla finestra, e il re-sto con la macchina fotografica incol-lata alle mie mani, con cui documento tutto ciò che vedo.

Quando hai scoPerTo la FoTograFia e com’è cambiaTo il Tuo sTile da allora?

Prima di immergermi nella foto-grafia mi piaceva modificare stock photos trovate su internet per mani-polarle e creare scenari da favola. In seguito, spinta dal fatto che volevo avere più controllo sui miei editing, ho iniziato a usare una macchina fo-tografica. All’inizio facevo foto alla mia famiglia e di paesaggi perché ero troppo intimorita per fare foto ad altre persone. Tuttavia, col pas-sare del tempo mi sono innamorata della fotografia e ho risparmiato per comprare la mia prima DSLR. Poi, ho iniziato a scattare foto a mia sorella, autoritratti e foto ai miei amici, ed è stato lì che ho trovato la vera passione per fotografia. Il mio stile è cambiato enormemente da quando ho iniziato. Mi affido molto meno a Photoshop ri-spetto all’inizio, e non ho più paura a scattare fotoritratti, anzi ora è la cosa che amo fare di più.

Tell us a biT abouT your selF.My name is Julia Trotti and I am a fashion pho-

tographer based in Sydney, Australia. I spend most of my time daydreaming while staring out the win-dow and the rest of the time with my camera glued to my hands, documenting everything I see.

When did you discover PhoTograPhy and hoW your sTyle has changed since Then?

Before photography, I edited stock images I found online to create dreamlike photo-manipulations of scenery. Eventually I wanted to take more control over my edits so I decided to pick up a camera. I used to take photos on my family point and shoot camera of landscapes because I was too scared to take photos of people. The more I shot, the more I fell in love with it and eventually saved up for my first DSLR. From here, I started to take photos of my sister, self portraits and images of my friends and which is when my true passion in photography had found me. My style has changed immensely from when I first started. I rely a lot less on Pho-toshop than I used to, and instead of being afraid of taking portraits, it’s something I love to do more than anything now.

com’è la Tua viTa da FoTo-graFa? cosa Ti Piace di Più del Tuo lavoro?

Amo il fatto che essendo fotografa la mia vita cambia in continuazione: mi ritrovo in posti diversi ogni giorno e incontro sempre gente nuova. Amo fotografare il più possibile in ogni cosa, ma non cambierei il mio stile di vita per nulla al mondo.

Qual è la cosa migliore che Ti è caPiTaTa grazie alle FoTograFia?

Amo le piccole cose che ho scoper-to grazie alla fotografia. Ho incontra-to tante persone meravigliose e stretto amicizie importanti in quanto riesco a mettermi in relazione con la gente in modo diverso grazie alle mie foto-grafie. A un livello più specifico, sono grata dell’opportunità che ho avuto di andare a Londra l’anno scorso per fotografare una campagna.

hoW is your liFe as a PhoTograPher? WhaT do you like mosT oF your job?

I love how the life as a photographer is ever chan-ging. I am taken to new places every day and am constantly meeting new people. I still love shooting the most out of everything, but I wouldn’t change my lifestyle for the world.

WhaT is The besT Thing ThaT has haP-Pened To you because oF PhoTograPhy?

I love the small things that photography has ope-ned me up to over the years. I’ve met a lot of ama-zing people and made some very good friends as I am able to connect with people in a different way through my photographs. In the bigger picture, I am very thankful for the opportunity to travel to London last year to photograph a campaign.

Mi piace passare il mio tempo libe-ro in viaggio: sono sempre alla ricer-ca di un’avventura in un luogo in cui non sono mai stata, sperando di tro-vare nuovi fantastici paesaggi dove fare delle fotografie. Quando trovo qualcosa che suscita il mio interesse, lo scatto parte dalla mia testa. Da qui mi piace mettere tutte le mie idee per iscritto, quindi annoto tutto quello che mi piacerebbe fare nella nuova lo-cation che ho trovato. Più scrivo, più l’idea inizia a formarsi finché non ho un progetto che mi soddisfa. A que-sto punto raduno un team di modelli, makeup artist, stylist e hair stylist. Ci incontriamo un dato giorno e ci met-tiamo al lavoro! Quando torno a casa il pomeriggio o la sera stessa trasferi-sco le immagini dalle memory card al mio computer e nelle settimane suc-cessive seleziono le fotografie miglio-ri, le perfeziono, e la mia serie di foto è completa!

Take us To your creaTive Process: From The idea To The Finished ProducT.

I love spending my free time on the road. I am always looking to go on a new adventure to so-mewhere I’ve never been before, in hope of finding new and amazing locations I can shoot at. When I stumble across something that takes my interest, a shoot usually starts to form in my head. From here, I like to put all my thoughts onto paper, so I will write down little ideas and things I would like to do in this new location I found. The more I jot down, the more the idea slowly starts to put itself together until I have a concept I am happy with. From there, I put together a creative team of a model, makeup ar-tist, stylist and hair stylist. We then all meet up, and shoot into the day! I will come home that afternoon or night and download all my memory cards. Over the next few weeks, I select my favourite images, retouch them and my series of images is finished!

QuanTo Pensi sia imPor-TanTe la locaTion nei Tuoi lavori?

Una location è fonte di ispirazio-ne per me, è da lì che parte l’idea o il concetto per uno shooting. Mi piace partire in macchina e esplorare nuovi luoghi, ed è così che nascono idee per I miei shooting.

se PoTessi scegliere un luogo in cui viaggiare e da FoTograFare, dove andre-sTi?

Mi piacerebbe davvero fotografare in strada in Spagna o nei deserti ame-ricani.

hoW imPorTanT do you Think locaTion is To your Work?

Locations are one of my biggest inspirations for coming up with an idea or concept for a shoot. I love going on roadtrips to explore new places and from that, ideas for my shoots are born.

iF you could choose one Place To Tra-vel To For PhoTograPhy Where Would you go?

I would absolutely love to photograph in the streets of Spain or the American deserts.

was born in the Basque Country, in northern Spain. I like traveling, nature and all art in general, wether literature, painting or music and of course, photo-graphy.

“I’ve realized that the sea takes an important place on my photos and also in my life”

When did you FirsT begin Taking Pho-Tos and Why do you PhoTograPh?

I started taking photos three years ago, first I le-arned with a digital camera and afterwards I started to shoot analog; now I only shoot analog. In my opi-nion photography is one of the best ways to express myself, and in my view my photos talk a lot about me. I like creating beauty, making things look even better than in real life. I think photography gives you this ability.

hoW Would you describe your PhoTos?I think my photos convey sensitivity and soft-

ness, true friendship and love. I’ve realized that the sea takes an important place on my photos and also in my life – I would live in the water if I could!

Quando hai iniziaTo a scaTTare FoTo e Perché FoTo-graFi?

Ho cominciato a fare foto tre anni fa, prima con una macchina digitale e poi con l’analogica. La fotografia è per me uno dei modi migliori di esprimer-si, credo che le mie foto dicano molto sul mio carattere. Mi piace creare la bellezza, migliorare le cose e renderle più belle che nella realtà, e credo che la fotografia abbia questo potere.

come descriveresTi le Tue FoTo?

Credo che le mie fotografie tra-smettano sensibilità e dolcezza, ami-cizia vera e amore. Mi sono resa conto che il mare gioca un ruolo cruciale nelle mie fotografie e nella mia vita –vivrei sott’acqua se potessi!

iF you could Travel anyWhere in The World, Where Would iT be?

As I’ve said, I love traveling. I have a lot of places where I really would like to go, but my near future plan is to travel through the 7 islands of the Canary Islands. I’m going to make a project called “Sea you Soon” with my friend Mònica Bedmar. It is about one ocean, one friendship and a thousand of stories and adventures.

se PoTessi viaggiare in Qualsiasi ParTe del mondo, dove andresTi?

Come ho già detto, amo viaggiare e ci sono molti posti in cui mi piace-rebbe andare. Nell’immediato futuro visitarò le isole Canarie, poiché realiz-zerò un progetto chiamato “Sea you Soon”* in collaborazione con Mònica Bedmar, una mia amica. Si svolgerà intorno all’oceano, un’amicizia, e tan-te storie e avventure.

*l’espressione gioca sul fatto che sea (mare) e see (vedere, in questo caso “ci ve-diamo”) hanno lo stesso suono in inglese.
