The project is a four unit housing development for students in Pasadena, California. The project revolves around the placement of a double height courtyard in each living unit to serve as the axis to the rest of the program. Each courtyard is placed on the ground level leaving an open skylight above, which serves as natural ventilation and lighting. The courtyards are meant to be seen as a deliberate design move that connects all the spaces to each other. Perhaps the biggest move was to turn the vacant lot in front of the site into a park in order to connect the housing units to the street and the neighborhood.

T H E B O U L E V A R DS E N I O R H O U S I N GThis is a fifty unit project that encapsulatesthe idea of the boulevard within mid-risesenior housing in Los Angeles. This boulevard is composed of a continuous ramp that takes the inhabitants from the central courtyard on the ground level tothe sixth floor terrace. This trajectorycontains pocket community spaces that serve as meeting points for the residentsand in this way, it transforms the rampinto a boulevard. This moves away fromthe simple stacking of levels which impedes a physical proximity and interaction between the residents. Instead, all the floors are connected by a common path that celebrates interaction.

PUBLIC SPACE FORMATION

Puncture is an exploration of the orthogonal versus the organic. This exploration stems from the desire toachieve an architecture of expansion versus contraction. Specifically, thinking of the spacial components of a university campus. This vision is then transcribed into a proposed campus expansion of the University of Southern California, which takes place along the seven west neighboring blocks of the current campus. This extension strives to be a new type of campus, futuristic in nature, in its architectural form and inthe way it draws the community into it, as opposed to the current gated campus. To this end, the project contains multi-faceted program that allows both students and the neighborhood to occupy its retail, theaters, park, farmers market and restaurants.

Presidiowalk is an exploration with the Presidio National Forrest in San Fan Francisco with the intent to create a new gatewayto the Presidio for enriched visitor interaction. Thus, the project seeks to connect the Main Post of the Presidio to the beachthrough a boardwalk with dispersed program like exhibition spaces, cafes, outdoor theaters, and pools at the water’s edge. In addition, the projects seeks to renovate the existing site conditions, composed of depreciated nature and parking lots, byre-infiltrating wildlife and vegetation along the boardwalk. As a result, the visitors will experience the boardwalk with curated viewsof the San Francisco landmarks through the canopies of the surrounding trees.
