WALT DISNEY WAS REJECTED FOR HIS ORIGINAL CARTOONS

• His first cartoon series left him bankrupt.

• Walt was fired by an editor who thought he was unimaginative.

• He lost his rights to his first commercially successful character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

• This was before Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were born and Disneyland was created.

LOSING OSWALD TO UNIVERSAL

• Disney lost the rights to Oswald and found out that Universal Studios had secretly patented the character.

• Universal then took Disney’s artists and continued the cartoon without any input from Disney himself, nor did they pay him.

DISNEY SHOWS PERSEVERANCE

• Disney’s greatest example of perseverance was when he tried to make the Mary Poppins book into a movie. His daughter suggested that he turn the novel into a screenplay. However, Pamela Travers, the author did not want to sell her story to Hollywood. Disney travelled to England for the next sixteen years in the hopes of winning her over, which he eventually did after all that time. This movie has become a timeless classic.
