Birth/early life

On December 5, 1901 Walter Disney was born in Chicago. When he was four the family moved to Missouri and lived on a farm.

His father got typhoid. The Disneys moved to Kansas City. They were very poor because his father was sick. Walt delivered newspaper early in the morning to help his father.

He loved to entertain people and to draw. Moved to Chicago

Education

Walt did not pay attention in school. He dressed up like Abe Lincoln and recited the Guttysburg address his teacher loved it. Walt attended to McKinley High School. At night he took art classes when he was 16-17 years old.

Adult life/Career

Walt thought he might be a cartoonist or in show business. Walt’s first comedy act was a failure. Walt got kicked off the stage.

Walt wanted to join the army but he was too young. Walt became an ambulance driver in World War I. After the war Walt started his own business creating ads and signs but it was a failure.

At Walt’s next job he learned about animation. Cartoons were invented and audiences loved them.

Walt worked very hard with his friends making cartoons. Even though the cartoons were clever, they went bankrupt.

Walt decided to go to Hollywood. People liked his work. Walt got money from them, his parents, and brother. Walt and his brother, Roy, formed the Disney Brothers Studio.

Adult life/ career (continued)

Walt got married to Lillian Bounds in 1925. Walt’s new character was a mouse. Lillian named the mouse Mickey. Mickey became everybody’s hero. Mickey became more and more popular. Walt’s next cartoon was the Three Little Pigs. Next he created Snow White, then came Cinderella. These cartoons became big successes. Walt built Disney World and Disney Land.

Accomplishments Everybody wanted Walt to draw for them!

He won an Academy Award. Some of his cartoons and movies were Pinocchio, Peter Pan, the Parent Trap, Mary Poppins, and Alice in Wonderland.

Impact on the word

He drew cartoons for everybody to see. Walt’s ideas were the inspiration to build Disney World and Disney Land. He brought fun to kids and adults all around the world.

Date and Cause of death

He died in 1966 of lung cancer. He smoked cigarettes for years. He was 65 when he died.
