Manitoulin Island – The Island Of The Spirits“The Resting Place of the Creator”

This mural was completed in 3 days. It was the highlight of the festival. Title: Island To Island

Symbolic Interpretation

You will notice that there is a repetition of images in each of the murals.

This repetition is a reminder of the following:The animals represent our Dodems (Our Spirit Helpers) and various Clans we are of.

The plants represent the medicinal world our early relations lived in.

Pictograph images are used to represent the artisans who were working on them over 1,400 years ago.

What are the advantages to this project?

This project can be linked to the following: medicinal plant research and science class.

Animal research and social studies Art covering research, eye hand co-

ordination, line drawing, layout design, painting utilizing all aspects of elements. Plus...

The students get to know a little more of themself and their team peers.
