How many people does it take to make up a team and what should our goal be?

We suggest 10 registered team members but tams of all sizes are welcome! We recommend setting

your goal at $2,000 or more, but any goal is accepted! Just do your best knowing that every dollar puts

us one step closer to a community where all people are connected, respected and valued.

Does everyone on my team need to register?

Yes, we want to know you’re walking/running with us and need every Walker/Runner to sign a standard

waiver through their official online registration. There is no registration free to walk. However, we ask

every Walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds.

Do I need to register my children for the Walk/Run?

Yes, children should register. Parents/guardian can register children online and sign the waiver on behalf

of the child.

When is the deadline to register?

There is no deadline as we take registration on Walk/Run Day! It’s never too late, but please register

early so that we can plan accordingly. Online registration ends at 9:00 a.m. on May 3, 2019.

One of my team members registered as an individual when the meant to join my team. How do I

correct this?

Contact Cierra Hilson at 216.752.3000, or [email protected]. We will gladly fix it for you.

Where do the funds go?

Proceeds from Walk, Rock & Run help to support The Diversity Center's School & Youth Programming

throughout Northeast Ohio. Students learn how to become leaders and positive change agents in their

schools and communities by participating each year in our conferences, retreats, and camps. Our School

& Youth Programming empowers young people and their teachers to increase cultural competency,

build leadership skills, and create inclusive environments that foster learning and educational success.

Walk, Rock & Run unifies communities across Northeast Ohio and spreads messages of respect,

acceptance and inclusion

To whom do I make the check payable? Make checks payable to The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio. In the memo line, be sure to include the Walker’s name and/or team, or Walk, Rock and Run! How do I apply an offline donation to myself, a team member, or the team on the Walk website? Contact Cierra Hilson at 216.752.3000, or [email protected]. Are cash donations accepted? Yes, we do accept cash donations but recommend that you bring the cash to our office or submit it on Walk/Run day. Please do not mail cash. What happens if I don’t reach my goal? That’s perfectly okay! A goal is a desired result that a person envisions, plans and commits to achieve, so do the best that you can. We accept donations to your team after the Walk/Run, too. What happens if it rains? The Walk/Run is a rain or shine. However, in the case of severe weather we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event. Does every walker and runner receive a t-shirt? Runners receive a T-shirt. Walkers do not receive a T-shirt; however, t-shirts can be purchased for $25 and must be pre-ordered by Monday, April 18, 2019 https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Cleveland/TheDiversityCenterofNortheastOhiosWalkRockandRun Where do I pick up pre-ordered t-shirts? Pre-paid t-shirts can be picked up on Walk/Run day. If your team has purchased a large number of t-shirts, you can make arrangements for pick up in our office. Contact Cierra Hilson at 216.752.3000, or [email protected]. How do I get free entry into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center, USS Cod Submarine Memorial and the International Women’s Air & Space Museum on Walk/Run Day? All participants must arrive at the registration/check-in tent by 9:30 a.m. on May 4, 2019 to get wristbands for admission into the museums. What time does check-in begin? Check-in for runners is 7:00 a.m. Step-off for runners is 8:30 a.m. Check-in for walkers is 7:00 a.m. Step-off for walkers is 8:30 a.m.

Together we are creating a community where fairness, diversity and mutual respect are the norm. _____Create a list of potential teammates to join your Walk/Run team. Set a goal of the number of teammates you will recruit and the amount of money that you will raise. Post your goals on your team page. _____Personalize your team and personal webpages with a photo and share your story. WHY is the Diversity Center’s mission important to you? Create a friendly URL for both pages to make sharing easy. _____Use your social networks to encourage team membership and donations from your Facebook friends, Twitter and Instagram followers, LinkedIn connections. Share why now is the time to teach a new generation to eliminate bias, bigotry and racism. _____Just ask. Ask everyone for a donation – your hairdresser, doctor, neighbor, co-worker, sister, grocery clerk, cousin…the key is just to ask! _____Set an example and make a self-donation. Walkers/Runners who make a self-donation raise twice the amount of a Walker/Runner who does not donate. _____Update your team and personal page. Walkers and Runners who customize their webpage raise 3.5 times more than those who do not update their page. Share your story! Tell your WHY. _____Ask every donor to leverage the power of Matching gift programs, and remind your teammates to do the same. _____Remind all Walkers and Runners to check-in at the Check-in table by 9:30 a.m. on Walk/Run Day to get wristbands for admission to the museums. All participants must be registered.

Executive Auction Participating executives line up for a pageant and the employees are able to bid on them once the dog and pony show is over. The executive purchased then has to do that employee’s job for a day.

Set the starting bids on the executives. These minimum bids, when added together, will ideally surpass the fundraising goal so that everything else is cream. If your fundraiser’s goal is really lofty, aim to achieve at least half with the opening bids. For the auction stage, have the executives perform for the crowd to build the bidding frenzy. Use tasks that humanize and personalize the executives. These segments may include:

• Give an off-the-cuff speech for two minutes involving a funny memory. • Tell what they would do if they were President of the World for a day. • Dance to three very different 10-second music bites. • Runway model. • Talk about a personal goal or interest that doesn’t involve the company.

Sweet Treat Bake-Off Hold a competition in which employees can put their best family recipe to the test. Sell taste tickets and vote on the best baker in the company. Award a prize for the winner.

Bake Sale or Farmer’s Market

Give your baking teammates a chance to show their stuff by donating through a bake sale. Those who don’t bake can buy baked goods at the grocery store.

Open the sale just prior to lunchtime and make sure to broadcast a vivid reminder. No need to limit yourself to baked goods either. You can do the same thing with Popcorn, Hot dogs, Ice cream, etc. Twist: Have any gardeners on the team? Expand this concept to holding your own farmers’ market.

Lunch and Learn Charge a fee for attendance at a series of brown bag lunch classes where attendees have the opportunity to learn a new skill, relieve some stress or improve their health. Ask an employee to donate his or her time and talent as presenter. Book Sale Most of us have books that have been sitting on our bookshelves, untouched for many years. Encourage colleagues to donate those books. On the day of the big sale, lay the books out to gain maximum exposure. Announce the beginning of the sale and let it go on for as long as you like. The length of your sale depends upon its popularity, since someone must be available to collect payments, etc.

Near the end of your sale, encourage people to revisit and benefit from a steep discount (buy one book, get a second book free, for example.) Your mission is to squeeze as much as you can out of the effort and reduce your inventory. Donate the remaining books to the local library.

Pancake Breakfast / Ice Cream Social Sell pancakes for breakfast or ice cream for dessert. Ask management to serve the employees.

Baby Picture Contest Get a baby photo from each of your colleagues. Scan them and post them. Charge your colleagues a fee to match the correct photo to the office character. Prize for the most correct answers.

Announce a Jean Day Have an office where the dress code is business casual or uniforms? As long as some structure is placed on this so that it is appropriate for your organization’s culture, a jean day can be an easy, no-muss, no-fuss fundraiser for your office. Charge your colleagues a fee ($5-$10) to wear jeans. The likeliest day for this is usually a Friday, when people are often relaxing into their weekends, but any day works.

Ugly Tie or Awful Earring Contest Contestants pay a fee to enter the awful earring or ugly tie contest. Place voting boxes at convenient locations and charge a few dollars per vote. Parade contestants for all to see, before voting closes. Circulate the names of the entrants the day before the event so that employees can anticipate the voting.

Matched Giving It can be hard work to organize fundraising events at the office, so it seems fair that you get some help in return. Ask your HR department to match the amount of money that you fundraise, therefore doubling your total!

Office Olympics Teams pay to compete in Olympic style events: wastebasket paper ball free throws; putting contest; timed obstacle course; making the longest paper clip chain in one minute; folding and stuffing the most letters into envelopes in one minute. Have some fun with this!

Packed Lunch Day Encourage colleagues to bring a packed lunch for a day. Ask them to donate what they would have spent at the restaurant to your Walk, Rock and Roll Team instead! Come Dine with Us Take advantage of departmental rivalry and ask each team to host a lunch. Everyone who joins in can donate and rate the lunch on a scale of 1-10. At the end of the week, tally up the totals and announce the winning team. Bragging rights!

Email Signatures Include your Walk Rock and Roll team link in your email signatures. It is a good way to remind internal colleagues why you’re fundraising. You might also get some donations from generous, external contacts!

Jailbreak This one works best if you’ve got a willing and well-connected boss. Shut them in the boardroom with only their mobile phone and promise that they can come out once they’ve raised a set amount of money from their major contacts. Swear Jar Set up a swear jar in the office and any time somebody curses, they need to make a set donation.

Office Raffle Everyone can buy tickets. Just be sure to make the prizes enticing! Buy your ticket rolls at any office supply store and leave raffle participants with little paper stubs of hope in exchange for their cash. While the possibilities are endless, raffle prize ideas include:

• Get a full day off, with pay. • Tickets to a sporting event. • Gift cards for restaurants, spas, movie theaters, stores or gas stations. • A non-business trip, with lodging and meals covered. • Air miles.

Sponsored Pledges Ask your colleagues to pledge to give something up for a week or a month, in exchange for sponsorship from their teammates. For example, the office chocoholic could give up chocolate and the person who can’t function without a coffee could give up caffeine.

Bid for The Boss See if your team leaders and executives would be willing to auction off a lunchtime slot with them. There might be a lot of people in the office keen to spend some time speaking with them and suggesting new ideas for the company!

We want all teams to arrive on Walk Day energized and prepared to celebrate! Be ready to show the community and TV3 cameras the force we represent in our commitment to eliminating bias, bigotry and racism.

Plan ahead: Look out for emails leading up to the Walk. Find out how close you are to winning our Top

Individual Fundraiser Prize or our Top Workplace Traveling Trophy!

Stay in regular communication: A couple of days before the Walk, send an email from your RunSignup

center reminding your teammates of event details and to bring additional donations to the Walk.

Get organized: Encourage team members to register for the Walk to save time at the Check-in area.

Decide for carpooling or meeting up at the Walk. Consider planning a post-Walk lunch to celebrate your

fundraising success, before you enjoy the museums!

Accessorize with pride: Break out that walking/running shoes make signs, create buttons, and dress up!

Most importantly, have fun with this!

Capture the moment: Take a team photo to capture the day! Be sure to post it using #walkrock&run

Celebrate: Gather at the Walk finish line to celebrate your success! Feel proud of all you’ve

accomplished in helping us to eliminate bias, bigotry and racism, and share that pride with your friends

and family. We cannot thank you enough for leading others in this diversity celebration.
