• Plug the AC adapter �nto an electr�cal outlet . If the battery has not been prev�ously charged, place the handset �n the telephone base, and allow �t to charge for 16 hours .

InstallationChoose locationFor max�mum performance of your cordless telephone system:

1 . Choose a central locat�on for your telephone base .

2 . Install your telephone base and handset away from electron�c equ�pment, such as personal computers, telev�s�on sets and m�crowave ovens .

3 . In locat�ons where there are mult�ple cordless telephones, separate telephone bases as much as poss�ble .

4 . Install your telephone equ�pment away from heat sources and sunl�ght .

5 . Avo�d excess�ve mo�sture, dust or extreme cold .

a) Al�gn the two holes �n the plug w�th the socket p�ns �n the handset battery compartment, match�ng the red and black w�res to the color-coded label . Snap the plug �nto place . Put the battery �nto the compartment .

b) Place the battery �n the compartment w�th the w�res tucked �ns�de .

c) Replace cover by sl�d�ng �t up �nto place .d) The battery may have enough power for short calls . For

best performance, put the handset �n the telephone base and charge the battery for at least 16 hours .

InstallationWall mounting bracket installation (opt�onal)Your telephone base comes w�th the wall mount�ng/desktop bracket �nstalled, ready for desktop use . If you prefer to mount your telephone on the wall (opt�onal), �t �s des�gned to mount on a standard telephone wall plate . For wall mount�ng, follow these �nstruct�ons:

Desk/table bracket installationTo place your telephone base on a desk or table, �nsert the wall mount�ng/desktop bracket .

Insert the lower port�on tabs of the bracket �nto the upper grooves of the telephone base .

• Snap the upper port�on tabs of the bracket �nto place .To remove the bracket, press both upper port�on tabs f�rmly �nward and pull the bracket upward unt�l �t �s released from the grooves .

• F�rst, �nsert the lower port�on tabs of the wall mount�ng/desktop bracket �nto the lower grooves �n the telephone base, then snap the upper port�on tabs of the bracket �nto place .

• Mount the telephone base on the wall by positioning it so the mounting studs will fit into the holes on the telephone base and wall mount�ng/desktop bracket . Sl�de the telephone base down on the mount�ng studs unt�l �t locks �nto place .To remove the bracket, press both upper portion tabs firmly inward and pull the bracket downward unt�l �t release from the grooves .

If you subscribe to DSL service:If you rece�ve h�gh speed �nternet serv�ce through your phone l�ne (commonly referred to as DSL), and you are exper�enc�ng �nterference dur�ng conversat�ons and/or your caller ID features aren’t funct�on�ng properly, install a DSL filter to the telephone line between the telephone base and the telephone line jack. Contact your DSL provider to obtain a DSL filter.

InstallationCheck for dial tone

After the batter�es are charged, p�ck up the handset and press TALK; you should hear a d�al tone . If you do not, refer to the Troubleshooting sect�on �n the back of th�s user’s manual .

Charge the handset battery The battery may have enough power for short calls . Place the handset �n the base, NEEDS

RECHARGING w�ll appear on the handset (�f the battery �s very low) . For best performance, charge the battery for at least 16 hours before us�ng your telephone .

Language • Press PROG, then press or unt�l LANGUAGE �s d�splayed . Press SELECT . • The current sett�ng bl�nks . Press or unt�l the screen d�splays the correct language (Engl�sh,

Espanol and Franca�s) . • Press SELECT to save your select�on .

Set the dial mode If you have touch tone serv�ce, the phone �s ready to use as soon as the battery �s charged . If you

have pulse (rotary) serv�ce, you’ll need to change the d�al mode . • Press PROG. • Press or unt�l the screen d�splays DIAL MODE: and the current sett�ng . • Press SELECT. The current sett�ng bl�nks . • Press or to select TONE or PULSE. • Press SELECT to save .

• If the phone w�ll not be used for a long per�od of t�me, remove the battery to prevent battery damage .

InstallationSet handset date and time If you subscr�be to caller ID service, the date and time will be set automatically with the first incoming call. If you do not have caller ID serv�ce, you can set the date and t�me manually:

• Press PROG, then press or unt�l DATE/TIME �s d�splayed . Press SELECT.• The month is flashing. Press or unt�l the screen d�splays the correct month . Press SELECT .• The day is flashing. Press or unt�l the screen d�splays the correct day . Press SELECT.• The hour is flashing. Press or unt�l the screen d�splays the correct hour . Press SELECT.• The minute is flashing. Press or unt�l the screen d�splays the correct m�nute . Press SELECT.• AM or PM is flashing. Press or to choose between AM or PM. Press SELECT.

Handset ringer style You can select from four d�fferent handset r�nger styles, or turn the r�nger off .

1 . W�th the handset �n �dle (off) mode, press PROG .2 . Press or unt�l the screen d�splays RINGER: and current sett�ng .3 . Press SELECT . The current sett�ng bl�nks, and you w�ll hear a sample of the r�ng .4 . Press or to select RINGER: 1, 2, 3, 4 or OFF . You w�ll hear a sample of each r�ng tone .5 . Press SELECT to choose the d�splayed r�nger sett�ng .

• In the event the battery loses all of �ts power or �s removed, the t�me sett�ng w�ll be lost .

Telephone operation Temporary tone dialing If you have pulse (rotary) d�al�ng, you can change from d�al pulse to touch tone d�al�ng dur�ng a call by press�ng *TONE . Th�s �s useful �f you need to send touch tone s�gnals for access to telephone bank�ng or long d�stance serv�ces .

Headset jackYou can use th�s telephone handsfree when you �nstall any VTech 2 .5 mm headset, purchased separately .

Plug the headset �nto the jack located on the r�ght s�de of the handset (under the small rubber flap). Do not force the connection, but make sure the plug fits securely.

Operating rangeTh�s cordless telephone operates w�th�n the max�mum power allowed by the Federal Commun�cat�ons Comm�ss�on (FCC) . Even so, th�s handset and telephone base can commun�cate over only a certa�n d�stance - wh�ch can vary w�th the locat�ons of the telephone base and handset, the weather, and the construction of your home or office. If you receive a call while you are out of range, the handset m�ght not r�ng or �f �t does r�ng, the call m�ght not connect when you press TALK. Move closer to the telephone base, then press TALK to answer the call .

If you move out of range dur�ng a phone conversat�on, you m�ght hear no�se or �nterference . To �mprove recept�on, move closer to the telephone base .

If you move out of range w�thout press�ng OFF, your phone w�ll be left off the hook . To hang up properly, walk back �nto range, per�od�cally press�ng OFF.

• Press OFF at any t�me to ex�t the d�rectory .

• When the memory �s full the screen w�ll d�splay MEMORY FULL, an error tone sounds and you w�ll not be able to store a new number unt�l you delete a stored number to make room for another entry .

• When you access the d�rectory and there are no entr�es, DIRECTORY EMPTY w�ll d�splay on the handset screen .

DirectoryYour phone can store 20 (�nclud�ng the n�ne speed d�al entr�es) telephone numbers w�th names (up to 15 characters for the name and 24 d�g�ts for the number �n each locat�on) �n the handset .

About call history (caller ID)Your phone can store up to 45 calls �n �ts caller ID (CID) memory . When the memory �s full, the oldest call w�ll automat�cally be deleted to make room for new �ncom�ng call �nformat�on .

For each call that comes in, the screen displays the following information between the first and second r�ngs:

• Your caller’s name (15 letters are sent by your telephone company) .

• The caller’s area code and telephone number .

• The t�me and date of the call .

Listen to, save & delete messagesThe system automat�cally saves your messages unt�l you delete them, and can store approx�mately 21 m�nutes of messages, memos, and announcements (up to a max�mum of 95 messages) . A message or memo can be up to four m�nutes long .

The message window will flash to alert you to new, unplayed messages. Once all messages have been reviewed, the number displayed in the window will stop flashing and glow steadily. If the system conta�ns both old and new messages, �t w�ll play only the new messages . After all new messages are played, press PLAY/STOP to hear all messages .

Before play�ng a message, the system announces the day and t�me �t was rece�ved . Wh�le the message plays, the message w�ndow d�splays the number of the message . • If toll saver �s act�vated, the number of r�ngs changes to two when there are new messages wa�t�ng (see page 28) .
