Working in two maximum security prisons has provided Barry with more life or death situations than a civilian will ever encounter. In 1989 Barry put together a course for law enforcement. This system uses the guidelines of physical force and includes the lock flows and grappling of Kali as well as low line kicking, limb hitting, weapons disarming and the use of Dumog to move an unwilling suspect from point A to point Z. Barry’s knowledge of grappling also led to an extensive handcuffing system. In 1994 Barry started writing for Karate International Magazine and formed his own company Combat Arts USA. In 2005, Barry Cuda combined his 30 years of teaching, training and research and founded the Filipino Kali Mixed Martial Arts System in order to teach his own personal expression of JKD, Filipino Martial Arts, Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Silat and Western Boxing to martial artists and law enforcement personnel all over the U.S.A. Barry Cuda has been in the martial arts for over 30 years. In 1986, being a 5th degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu and an amateur kickboxer Barry opened his first school.Later that year, Barry attended a weeklong JKD/Kali seminar at the IMB academy in California and fell in love with the principles of Bruce Lee and the Filipino martial arts as taught by Dan Inosanto. For the next 9 years Barry was a faithful student attending seminars all over the country.
