NCLEX Pass Rate

96% Five Year Average NCLEX Pass Rate1

At Stanbridge College we strive to ensure our students exceed national average NCLEX pass rates through an unyielding commitment to their exam preparation. Stanbridge College has an excellent cumulative NCLEX pass rate of 96% from the inception of the program in 2007 to the present. The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is the exam required for a person to become licensed and legally practice as a nurse in the United States. It is created by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). The NCLEX exam is designed to be one of the final hurdles in your nursing career. Consequently, the questions focus on your ability to make decisions about patient care in various scenarios. The NCLEX test requires that you understand and apply the basic principles of nursing in order to manage the safety and well being of patients.

What does a Licensed Vocational Nurse do?

1. Source: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos102.htm. As viewed on January 9, 2012.

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. As part of their work LVNs collect samples for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, and record food and fluid intake and output. They also clean and monitor medical equipment. Sometimes they help physicians and registered nurses perform tests and procedures. Some LVNs help to deliver, care for and feed infants. LVNs work in all areas of Healthcare, including hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices and in home healthcare. Most LVNs work a 40-hour week in these settings. When dealing with patients who need constant care, however, some LVNs need to work nights, weekends and holidays.1

EmploymentEmployment of LVNs is expected to grow 21 percent between 2008 and 2018, faster than the average for all occupations.1 This increase is in response to the long-term care needs of a growing elderly population and the general demand for healthcare services.

In home health services employment of LVNs is expected to grow much faster than average as opposed to other nursing work environments. Home healthcare agencies will offer a large number of new jobs for LVNs because of an increasing number of older people with functional disabilities, consumer preference for care in the home, and technological advances that make it possible to bring complex treatments into the home. In nursing care facilities employment of LVNs is expected to grow faster than average and provide the most new jobs for LVNs because of the growing number of people who are aged and disabled and in need of long-term care. In addition, LVNs in nursing care facilities will be needed to care for patients who have been discharged from the hospital but who have not recovered enough to return home.

EarningsAccording to the US Department of Labor, the medial annual wages of licensed vocational nurses were $39,030 in May of 2008.1 As LVNs gain more professional experience and higher degrees of education, including bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, their potential earnings will continue to increase.

Our Financial Aid team will be there to support you as you fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and plan your financial aid package. Stanbridge College has the following Financial Aid programs available to those who qualify.

Federal Direct LoansFederal Direct Loans are low-interest loans available to students enrolled at least half-time. This type of funding must be repaid. The student however does not begin repayment until six months after leaving school.

Federal Direct Parent (PLUS) LoansPLUS loans enable parents to borrow funding to assist in paying the educational expenses for a dependent student enrolled at least half-time. Within sixty days of the final disbursement of funding parents must begin repayment of these loans.

Sallie Mae LoansSmart Option student loans are an ideal solution for students who still need funds after they have maximized grants, scholarships, and federal loans.

Cal GrantsCal Grants are awarded by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Cal Grant A, B and C are awarded based on enrollment status and GPA during the award year. Students must be eligible based on their established income, assets and the results of a current FAFSA. Grants are awarded from the State of California and do not have to be repaid.

A Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) performs venipuncture and arterial puncture for the purpose of providing dialysis treatment for a patient. According to the American Society of Nephrology, dialysis is a life-saving process that artificially replaces the functions of the kidney.1 Hemodialysis involves removing blood from the body and filtering it in a machine. The patient is connected by a tube to the dialysis machine, which continuously draws blood out, cleanses and removes excess fluid from it and then returns the blood back to the patient.1

CHTs are responsible for the patient’s preparation and comfort during a dialysis treatment. Technicians are tasked with taking patient history, recording blood pressure, determining pulse rates and monitoring patients throughout the procedure. A CHT may also administer local anesthetics, heparin, and sodium chloride solutions according to the protocol established by the medical director of the hemodialysis clinic or hospital unit. CHTs work under the immediate supervision of a licensed physician, surgeon, or licensed registered nurse.

Work EnvironmentHemodialysis patients must undergo dialysis 3 to 4 hours at least three times a week. A CHT typically performs these treatments in a hospital, dialysis center, or patient’s home.1

EmploymentAccording to the US Labor Department, healthcare will generate 3.2 million new jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry.2 This is largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population. Employment in the ambulatory healthcare services, including positions for Hemodialysis Technicians, is expected to increase by 6% between 2008 and 2016.2

EarningsAccording to Payscale.com, on average, a Certified Hemodialysis Technician will earn between $23,000 and $44,000 per year.3 Variables, such as the state of employment and type of healthcare facility, will affect a CHT’s salary. As CHTs gain professional experience, salary and benefits will increase.

Occupational therapy is a rehabilitation profession that serves clients of all life-stages who experience deficits in self-care, education, work, and leisure activities. Occupational therapy is a profession that blends medical sciences, social sciences, and creativity into a science-based therapy aimed at restoring or improving daily living skills. A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works to gather client information and administer therapy interventions to help clients regain the ability to do the everyday activities that are meaningful and necessary for daily life at home, school, and work. COTAs usually work on teams with Registered Occupational Therapists (OTR) and other professionals, such as physical therapists, speech therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and teachers.

One of the unique aspects of the occupational therapy profession is the wide variety of settings in which one could work. Occupational therapy services are offered to clients in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, school districts, psychiatric programs, out-patient clinics, home health agencies, and community-based programs. A COTA might work in a school district to help improve coordination

in children with developmental disorders; in a psychiatric department with adolescents dealing with schizophrenia who need to improve their social skills; at a rehabilitation hospital helping adults get in and out of the shower after hip surgery; or at a nursing home teaching stroke survivors how to feed themselves again. These are just a few of the applications of occupational therapy.

EmploymentThe job outlook for COTAs is excellent. The US Department of Labor predicted a 30% growth in employment for occupational therapy between 2004 and 2014.1 According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, a 2006 survey of occupational therapy assistant program directors showed that 94% of graduates were able to secure employment within eight weeks of graduating.2

EarningsAccording to the US Bureau of Labor, the median annual wages of occupational therapist assistants were approximately $50,000 in 2008.1 According to Payscale.com, certified OTAs with higher levels of degrees and experience can expect an annual income anywhere between $40,000 and $60,000.3

A Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist to provide treatment and care for patients with injuries and disabling conditions. They aid patients in exercises and treatments to improve patient mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or lessen physical disabilities. PTAs may also be tasked with teaching a patient how to use assistive devices like crutches or preparing equipment for training sessions among other treatments.

After graduating, some PTAs choose to advance their knowledge and skills in a particular area of physical therapy. These include geriatric, pediatric, musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, integumentary and cardiopulmonary physical therapy. PTAs might also advance in other non-clinical areas, including administrative roles.

Work EnvironmentPhysical Therapist Assistants generally work in acute care hospitals, outpatient therapy offices and skilled nursing facilities. Their schedules vary according to the facility’s hours and may include

weekend or evening hours. PTAs need a moderate degree of strength as they are required to kneel, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.

EmploymentAccording to the US Bureau of Labor, Physical Therapist Assistant positions are expected to grow by 35% from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations.1 This rapid growth is due mainly to the increased elderly population in addition to the aging baby-boomer generation. Because PTAs allow Physical Therapists to handle more patients, job opportunities for PTAs are expected to be widely available.

EarningsAccording to the US Bureau of Labor, the median annual wages of Physical Therapist Assistants were $46,140 in May 2008. The middle 50 percent earned between $37,170 and $54,900.1 Increased years of professional experience may raise a PTA’s yearly income. Other variables that may increase income include geographical location of employment and the type of facility in which the PTA is employed.

Furthering your education is both a commitment and an investment that will have lifelong returns. A certification, diploma or degree will open doors to greater career opportunities and increase your earning potential. We understand that financing this investment can be overwhelming, which is why Stanbridge College has a Financial Aid team that will walk you through your options and help you decide on the best financial aid package.

Our Financial Aid team will be there to support you as you fill out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and plan your financial aid package. Stanbridge College has the following Financial Aid programs available to those who qualify.

Federal Pell GrantThe Federal Pell Grant program provides a foundation of financial aid to which additional aid programs may be added. Unlike a loan, a Federal Pell Grant does not need to be repaid.
