The writer: Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley was born in London and was the daughter of the philosopher William Godwin and of Mary Wollstonecraft, died 10 days after her daughter’s birth.

She fell in love with the poet Percy Shelley and they travelled around Europe visiting France, Germany, Switzerland. During one of their travels Mary thought about writing a book. Her first book is called “Frankenstein”, then she wrote other five books.

How did the story start?

When Mary and Percy where in Geneva with their friend Lord Byron they were reading ghost stories and Byron advised Mary to write a ghost story. Mary wanted to write a story about the creation of a man without being God but using a divine energy. It was a terrible thing to do and that’s why the book is also called “Modern Prometheus”: the TITANO that fired humans.
