What “VIT” misses ?? VIT is hi tech today ,, but still misses the charm of nature trails andfarm house at abdullapuram.VIT has the most modern sports facilities,, but still misses the charms of “village wellswhich doubled as swimming pools“ at abdullapuram.VIT has airconditioned class rooms ,, but still misses the fresh air from paddy and sugarcanefields at abdullapuram.VIT has multi cuisine restaurants ,, but still misses the “mama mess “ which used to servewide variety as long it is rice and idly.VIT has multiple auditoriums, function halls,, but misses the charm of converting onehall(drawing hall) for multiple functions at abdullapuram.Footprints left behind by a small group of students in 1988 has transformed into giant strides with everypassing year. The metamorphosis from VEC to VIT is to be seen to “Believe” ....Best wishes for VEC (now VIT) to turn into a Goliath .

Forgetfullness....we tend to forget small achievements in life .. and look for bigger thingswe tend to forget friends ..who have helped while in needwe tend to forget parents ..when they are in needwe tend to forget our ambitions ...in pursuit of careerswe tend to forget small blips of joy ..in pursuit of perfectionwe tend to forget telling kids what to do .. and tell them what not to dowe tend to forget the golden words "thanks" and "sorry"... and defend, defendBUTVIT does not forget its students .. it keeps a track of their achievements, moves in life andit was completely unexpected and a real surprise , when Sekar sent word on my nomination for a"distinguished alumni"It was a mixed sense of guilt for forgetting the almamater and sense of mixed identity on"why me for theaward?" ...but deep inside it was a sense of gratitude as it was an opportunity to reconnect with the almamater .It is students who always relate to an institution , but this is an university par excellence ,,Inspite of its stature ,growth and size,, it still retains a personal touch and creates the sense of belonging .This element of personal touch lacks even amongst the so called "biggies" in educationThis probably is one of the reasons which ranks VIT as numero Uno amongst its class and I wish it all luckI have pledged to reconnect to this instituiton .. be it by way of projects, guest lectures and increase the listendlessly.

midst of difficulty and VEC provided that early foundation. We bonded well with fellow classmates, Principal, Chairmanand teachers, forming a cohesive team willing to take on the tough challenges ahead. We really had our fun time, in themidst of gloom, we found new hope and encouragement. Our batch produced many University rank holders, a few ofthem got admission to top Universities in US, while some pursued their masters’ in India. Majority of us, moved fromplace to place and have grown eventually from strength to strength.

We owe this success of VIT to its founder Chancellor Shri. G.Viswanathan who had the vision, grit, determination andtenacity of purpose to make VIT to be the best in the country. The rest of the VIT Management, Faculty, Staff andstudents over the years have really contributed to its growth in a big way. VIT has seen many hurdles in its growth whichit has only made it stronger and resilient.

An opportunity to walk down the memory lane of VIT and seeing its transformation from unfinished flooring in our classroomsin 1988 to world class marble flooring, dry land transforming to a lush green campus and a host of other infrastructurestanding tall would remind us how much we progressed and perhaps, some solace that we may have played somepart, however insignificant to its growth. We are truly proud to be VITians and we look forward to an opportunity to meetour batchmates, and our juniors during Silver Jubilee Event to understand how each of us have grown and how we cancontinue to grow as strong VIT alumni network.

VIT - What it means to one of its students.

Sunil Nair,2004 MBA

One of the most important decisionsthat one has to make in life is tochoose the right college for his/herpost graduation. So like any otheryouth, I was no different. With myfather in Mcgraw hill publications, getting access to alot of professors and lecturers wasn’t too tough. And itis this push that made me decide to go and have a lookat VIT, before I decide to join or not join it. Even thoughI had known few people who were already studying inVIT and I got very good reviews, I wasn’t too keen on itas I had perceived it to be like any other college built onthe highways of Chennai city.

My MBA course got over in 2004 and I started withReuters in Bangalore. 3 years in our Bangaloreoffice and then got an internal move to Singapore.I have been settled here for a while now.

Its been 4.5 years since I left VIT, but its in theseyears that I have fully understood the value ofbeing at VIT. Lessons learnt during my MBAclasses makes more sense now that it ever did. From basic domain knowledge in my field of studyto extra curricular activities, to various other skillslike people/event management etc, all have stoodme in good stead in my professional and personallife.

And now when I read articles on the internet aboutVIT being one of the top 10 colleges in the country,I feel like I have been personally honored with aBharat Ratna. There is no more joyous feeling inthe world other than seeing my college name figurein the best colleges in the country on a repeatedbasis.

And if we have to pin point 1 reason behind allthat VIT has achieved, we need to look beyond 1man, the great Mr. GV. There could be 101 millionreasons on how he did what very few in the worldhave achieved, but personally I believe the mostinteresting aspect of him being his “Vision”. He hada vision when I met him first in 2004 and he had avision when I met him few months back in ourSingapore Alumni meet. Its his focus that makeshim do what few can imagine of doing.

Elizabeth Rufus,1991 ECE

Well, I would interpret this Alumnimeet as “Home coming”. I am happyI am at Home. But, for most of youwho have been miles away, it is agreat time to see friends from collegedays, walk the campus and see the changes, learnabout the life of the university as it is today and hearabout the accomplishments of former students.

I encourage each of you to think of ways that you canprovide your own talents and support to your almamater as we continue to build a university worthy ofbeing an honored place among the best.I am confident that VIT will grow from strength tostrength and be an enduring institution that we can allbe proud to be associated with.

T. Mahaveerprabu,1999 EEE, Coordinator,VITAA Singapore Chapter

Hi, on this Silver jubilee occasion letus salute the creators of VIT whoinspired us with some great purposeand empowered with a quality education.

My stay at VIT has taught me many marvelous things, but most importantly it taught us to learn to be aninquisitive student for life. It has given enormous energyfor us to set the orbits of our life path at a distinct level, the courage to travel down an unexplored path &manage all the odds that could block our growth.

I greatly value meeting our fellow alumni, collaboratingwith them for great purposes.

Every morning as I walk into ourcampus and through the coveredpathways I look at the lush greenlawns, the well-spruced up gardensand the blooming wild flowers amidstthe aesthetically built concrete structures I profuselythank God for bringing me back to my alma mater. Iam awestruck like you every time I think of the giantstrides she has made over the past 25 years.

Trust this Silver Jubilee Association Meeting will be aperfect homecoming for all of us to reminisce andcherish memories. Let us also stand up to activelyparticipate in VITAA chapter activities and findopportunities to share the expertise gained over theyears with the VITians. This will really go a long wayin our pursuit of making VITAA the top-ranked AlumniAssociation in the country, when rated.

Wishing you and your family the best of everything!”

Ever wondered what an alma mater is..?

More than buildings, machines and trees..Anything other than an elevator of lives..?A Cemetery of our past providing us some peace..

When I visited mine that dayI couldn’t relate to her in any wayWhen I felt her, I could hear her callWith my palms placed on her evergreen wall

The world around me crawled in the presenceI flew back with her to my adolescence..My emotions, energy, youth and effervescence..She gave me them back; all my life’s lessons..

‘Back again with you mom ‘ - I told her‘To leave my soul, my son under your care’I felt her warmth in the tips of my earOh..Alma Mater does really mean a nourishingmother.

Joyous moments when my son joined VIT andoverwhelmed to say that he is the first alumnison to join..

I am a proud Alumnus & a Mother too ….

Gopinath Venkataramanan,1988 ECE

First off, I would like to take thisopportunity to thank VIT (VEC then)for providing us with the perfectplatform to launch our career from.

I am proud to recollect that I belong to the first batch ofgraduates from this prestigious institution, the days ofhumble beginning.Three important skills I practice in my everyday life, which I would like to share with you all, are:

1. Listen more than you speak2. It is not necessary that your team agrees with

everything you say, if there are no alternateviews and approaches, then you don’t need ateam, you can just do it yourselves.

3. If you believe you can, you can.

Good luck!

Dear friendsAs Alumni of VIT we have manyresponsibilities of holding hands withour Alma Mater and VITAA to fulfill our

chancellor’s vision of bringing VIT globally. Happy newyear & S-JAM

Devaprasad Amos. D,2006 M.Tech. Power Electronics

I completed UG study during 1976 in MadrasInstitute of Technology, Chromepet, Chennai. Ourbeloved Chancellor often encourages persons likeme by saying (who doubt that my age will be againstme)-there is no age limit for study, This was thegreat driving force which made me persevere PGstudy. In 2006, literally, after 3 decades, I could thinkof completing PG study.I must also state that, all my class mates treatedme as one among them, (peer) andI felt at home and comfortable onall occasions. The faculty memberswhenever I approached them to getmy doubts cleared, related to thesubjects of study, even during thetime, which was very much out ofgoing oriented schedule. LabAssistants too helped me in software / simulationexperiments.Completion of M.Tech at VIT enabled me tobecome a member of VITAA -2006 batch.

Arokiaraj Vincent. A2005 M.Sc., Microbiology

I completed my UG in Chemistry and was unable todo my PG immediately due to lack of institutesproviding PG courses and as an appraisal for mycareer in CMC I got admitted to M.Sc in VIT. It was 11years after my UG.

It is almost a decade gap and my class mates in M.Scand the latest environment and discipline of VIT haschanged me a lot to think about, at a global level. Now I am heading Karnataka’s First Ocular Stem Celllab.

G. Dharanibai, 1990 ECE

I still love to reminisce the good daysI had when I was studying in VEC.In our batch we were about twohundred and there were noenormous lecture halls, andauditoriums that we see today. It isamazing to see the progress that had happened inthe campus and the strides that VIT University hasmade in these years with dedication. Other thing that amazes me is the caliber of education.Knowledge is synonymous with university and VIT isat the fore front of research and development, generating new knowledge. I owe a lot to myalma mater for giving me the education and values.

Praveen Paranjothi, 2002 ECECo-ordinator, VITAA GermanyChapter

VIT is an institution with an excellentreputation in India and other parts ofthe world. The purpose of education isopening up individual minds. VITsucceeds enormously in this endeavor. It exposes you to the multi-cultural, multi-lingual cultureunited only by its plurality, India, in one campus. Theamount of possibilities the institution enables in the fieldof technology and international opportunities it opens upare the important factors that differentiate itself from thenumerous educational institutions in India. Havinggraduated in 2002, and witnessing the transformation ofthis institution from a college to a successful University isa joy. I am sure every one of you out there is feeling thesame. I wish all the students, current and past, lot ofsuccess in their endeavors and take this opportunity tothank the teachers for doing a great job.

The Silver Jubilee Celebrations not only highlights the facthow far the institution has come from its humble beginnings, but also the self-confidence and the bright future theinstitution sees ahead of it, of which every one of us playan unique role. With a great kudos to the VIT managementand its faculty for this success, I wish one and all a greatAlumni day.
