Page 8: Viking Voice - OKALOOSA SCHOOLS · Viking Voice Weekly Newsletter Fort Walton Beach High School March 24, 2017 John Spolski, Principal 400 Hollywood Blvd, SW Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Seniors will receive one complimentary ticket and will be required to purchase a ticket for their date if the student is not a senior at FWBHS.

Seniors will still need to pick up a complimentary ticket during their lunch the week of April 20th-27th.   If one of our students wants to bring a date who does not attend our school, the date must be old enough to attend high school, but not older than 20 and must be approved by the Administration.  If the date lives out of Okaloosa County, our student must pick up a form and get it to the date’s school and ask that school to fax it back to us.  Forms are available starting Monday, March 27th.  We must have the form back by 2:15pm on Tuesday, April 25th in order to approve the date attending the Prom.    Students, whose date attends an Okaloosa school, must pick up and complete a form.  The form is due to Attendance no later than 2:15pm on Tuesday, April 25th.    APPROVAL IS NOT AUTOMATIC!   The student will be notified if the date is not approved.   If the date is not approved, the student will not be able to purchase a ticket.  Please do not purchase dresses, rent tuxedoes, or line up a limo unless the date has been approved, because if the date is not approved, he/she will not be attending the Prom.   Both forms are available in the Attendance Office starting Monday, March 27th.

Monies Owed Contact:  J. Tucci (833-3300 ext. 3326)

Page 9: Viking Voice - OKALOOSA SCHOOLS · Viking Voice Weekly Newsletter Fort Walton Beach High School March 24, 2017 John Spolski, Principal 400 Hollywood Blvd, SW Fort Walton Beach, Florida

This is the thirteenth year that Z96 has operated the “Z96 Prom Dress Store,” and last year about 100 young ladies received free dresses.  A large number of dresses will be available, but we cannot guarantee that every girl will find a dress in her size or style.  Dixie Service Cleaners will provide dry cleaning services if necessary for any dress at a great discount.

For more information about the “Prom Dress Campaign,” or to make an appointment to shop for a dress, please contact Z96 at 850-243-7676 during business hours.

Congratulations FWBHS Chorus! Contact: D. Morris (850-833-3300 ext. 1533 or [email protected])

Viking Singers and the Voices of Valhalla did a wonderful job at Choral MPA! They earned Superior and Excellent Ratings! The judges were the hardest MPA has seen in quite a while, giving more Good and Fair Ratings than in previous years. It is awesome to know that those tough judges gave FWBHS Chorus Superior and Excellent Ratings in performance and Superior Ratings in sight-reading (which is accurately performing a musical excerpt at first sight, with only 1 minute to practice)! We are proud of our Viking Singers and Voices of Valhalla!

FWBHS presents Into The Woods Contact: C. Whittaker (833-3300 ext. 1819 or [email protected])

Fort Walton Beach High School continues its award winning season with James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s provocative musical, Into the Woods. Tickets are on sale now at the school office for this popular new American classic which opens Wednesday, April 19th, at 7:00pm, and continues April 20th and 21st, at 7:00pm and April 23rd at 2:00pm, at the Fort Walton Beach High School Auditorium, 400 Hollywood Boulevard, SW, Fort Walton Beach.

Into the Woods begins with beloved characters wishing for their hearts’ desire, and then examines what, ironically, can happen after “happily ever after.” Fractured fairy tales of a darker hue provide the context for Into the Woods, which deconstructs the Brothers Grimm characters by examining what results from getting what you wish for. While the faces and names are familiar, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack in the Beanstalk and company inhabit a neighborhood in which witches and bakers are next-door neighbors, handsome princes from once-parallel fables are competitive (and equally vain) brothers, and all the stories intersect through unexpected new plot twists. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical intertwines classic fairytales with a contemporary edge and a strong lesson in the harsh reality of justice and fairness in an unpredictable world.

Page 17: Viking Voice - OKALOOSA SCHOOLS · Viking Voice Weekly Newsletter Fort Walton Beach High School March 24, 2017 John Spolski, Principal 400 Hollywood Blvd, SW Fort Walton Beach, Florida

The original production premiered on Broadway on November 5, 1987, where it won several Tony Awards, including Best Score and Best Book. In 2014 Disney released the popular film version which featured Emily Blunt, James Cordon and Meryl Streep.

Cast members include Ben Tanner (Narrator), Abigail Morgan (Cinderella), Ariana Ellis (Jack’s Mother), Darby Ellis (Jack), Jake Hardy (Baker), Sydney Whittaker (Baker’s Wife), Azhia Ellis (Little Red), Jackson Henson (Rapunzel’s Prince), Grant Oberle (Cinderella’s Prince), Melody Murray (Witch), Jazmyne Kerns (Rapunzel), Sophia Metcalfe (Stepmother), Abrial Bonilla and Lexi Larkin (Stepsisters), Deandre Oats (Cinderella’s Father), Riley Beaulieu (Cinderella’s Mother), Parissh Phillips (Wolf), James Leon (Mysterious Man), Grant Graves (Steward), Claire Roberts (Milky White), and Carson Klaus (Granny).

Tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door before performances. For more information, contact director Christa Whittaker at [email protected] or the theatre office at 850-833-3300 x1819. The performances will showcase the FWBHS Stars Dance Team, the FWBHS Dance Classes, the FWBHS Cheerleaders, and a few special guests from FWBHS. This is also an evening for FWBHS parents, teachers, and students to recognize our Senior Stars before they graduate. There will be a $5 admission at the door and the Stars will be selling raffle tickets for three different amazing gift baskets.

The Fort Walton Beach Cheerleaders will be hosting a “What to expect at tryouts” clinic on Saturday, April 8th from 9am-12pm. This is a clinic for 5th-11th graders that will teach material similar to local middle and high school cheer tryout material to help prepare interested athletes for their school’s tryouts.

You DO NOT have to be attending FWBHS to attend! This can be for middle school, high school, or all-star cheer preparation. The clinic cost is $30 and participants will be taught a cheer, chants, a dance, correct jump techniques, and will also get an opportunity to tumble on a cheer mat.
