The training programme was conducted on the 1st of September, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in the Ganesh Daivajna Hall, at the Kare College of Law. The training programme was attended by the Student Councils of Vidya Vikas Academy High school and Senior Secondary, along with the Council members of the other institutions of Vidya Vikas Mandal. The topics for the programme were ‘Leadership in Action’ and ‘Team Work works’ and were coordinated by faculty members Mr. Anthony Athayde and Mr. Beethoven Fonseca. The first session gave us an insight of what we as leaders are expected to do in order to inspire and motivate the other students. The other highlights of the seminar included how to breed talent and how to take quick decisions in times of emergency. The second session was about teamwork. The importance of teamwork and it’s pros and cons were explained. There was a team activity which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and helped to understand the importance and the role that a leader portrays in a team. On the whole the workshop was very informative and was appreciated by all the student leaders.

GANESH CHATURTHI The students of the Pre-Primary Section celebrated ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ on the 30th of August 2016 with great pomp and fervour. The teacher’s narrated the story of Lord Ganesha to the students.

The students of the Jr. KG. A enacted a skit on Lord Ganesha and performed the ‘Aarti’ of the Ganesh idol. To add to the celebration, a ‘fugdi’ dance was performed by the pupils of Sr. KG C, Jr. KG A and Jr. KG C.

The highlight of the celebration was the ‘visarjan’ along with a grand procession by the Pre-Primary students. The assembly was co-ordinated by Tr. Leena Rebello, Tr. Genesia Pereira and Tr. Melbina Rodrigues.

TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR MEMBERS OF STUDENTS' COUNCIL The VVM’s Late H.M.N Gaunekar Institute of Management Training and Research (IMTR) organized a training programme for the student leaders of the institutions of Vidya Vikas Mandal.

The training programme was conducted on the 1st of September, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in the Ganesh Daivajna Hall, at the Kare College of Law. The training programme was attended by the Student Councils of Vidya Vikas Academy High school and Senior Secondary, along with the Council members of the other institutions of Vidya Vikas Mandal.

The topics for the programme were ‘Leadership in Action’ and ‘Team Work works’ and were coordinated by faculty members Mr. Anthony Athayde and Mr. Beethoven Fonseca. The first session gave us an insight of what we as leaders are expected to do in order to inspire and motivate the other students. The other highlights of the seminar included how to breed talent and how to take quick decisions in times of emergency.

The second session was about teamwork. The importance of teamwork and it’s pros and cons were explained. There was a team activity which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and helped to understand the importance and the role that a leader portrays in a team. TEACHER'S DAY Teachers play a key role in the life of an individual. In the 21st century, teachers are not just instructors, but they guide, comfort, support and motivate their students. It’s a special bond that a student shares with his/her teacher. To celebrate this wonderful relationship the students and the management of Vidya Vikas Academy organized various programmes on 31st August 2016 (since 5th Sept was a holiday). The day began with the short programme organized by the students of Classes 1 to 12 for their class teachers and subject teachers in their respective classes. This was followed by an entertainment programme by class X and the Senior Secondary section in the School Hall.

The programme comprised of singing, dance performances and games. The performance of ‘Jhankar Beats’ was mesmerizing. ‘Teacher VVA’ contest was also held and Mrs. Aarati Iyer won the title.

Thereafter teachers proceeded to have a relaxing time and to celebrate their day at Haathi Mahal.

HINDI DIWAS The students of Class 5 along with the staff of Vidya Vikas Academy, celebrated Hindi Diwas at Vidya Vikas Academy to mark the importance of the country’s most widely spoken language.

Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on 14th September to mark respect to the official language of India. Hindi was adopted as the official language of Constituent Assembly on September 14, 1949.

A special assembly marked the occasion with a speech highlighting the origin of Hindi followed by recitation of different poets. Hindi poems were sung, and students spoke on the importance of the language in the contemporary society.

The assembly concluded with the distribution of awards and participation certificates to the students for Mahatma Gandhi Rashtra Bhasha Olympiad.

VVA STUDENTS VISIT INS HANSA

Students of Class 8 and Class 11 of Vidya Vikas Academy visited the INS HANSA, Naval Base at Dabolim Goa on 15th September 2016.

The students got an opportunity to see various aircrafts operated by the Indian Navy. They were also lucky to have a close view of the takeoff and landing of the aircrafts at Shore Based Test facility (SBT) which is one among the three in entire Asian Continent. The officers explained in detail about the air traffic control and the working of the SBT.

Students were able to interact with Commanding Officer and other authorities who were kind enough to answer the queries raised by the students.

Students also visited the Naval Museum and witnessed the various portraits and models of the aircrafts and vessels used during the wars giving them insight about the historical events.

The students came back to school with an enriching experience and motivation. Some were inspired to join the Indian Navy. Staff Co-ordinator : Pruthviraj Dessai and Agnelo D’Souza.

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PRESERVATION OF OZONE LAYER In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 16th September as the “International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer”, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

A special assembly on “INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR PRESERVATION OF OZONE LAYER” was conducted by class 8A on 16th September 2016.

The objective of the assembly was to highlight the need to protect the fragile shield of ozone layer. The program started with Neharika Sawant & Samuel Fernandes speaking about the brief history of Montreal Protocol and its effect on ozone layer. Lyan Fernandes gave more insight on amazing facts of ozone layer.

Students presented a skit to enlighten the students about the importance of this day. The audience was enthralled by the “Ozone Song” presented by Arya Kamat, Aditya Mitra, Asmi Lotliker, Elisheba Gonsalves,Trushelle D’Silva,Crizelda Gama accompanied by Brisen Whyte on the Guitar. Jayden Braganza read out the thought for the day.

ONAM CELEBRATIONS The Pre-Primary celebrated Onam with great fervour and enthusiasm. The teachers narrated the story of King Mahabali and also the Onam celebration. The students of Nursery A and B put up a dance on the traditional music of the state of Kerela and enthralled one and all. The Pookalam of flowers was displayed which was appreciated by all. ART & CRAFT EXHIBITION Art and Craft exhibition display was organized by the students of Class 1 to 10 of Vidya Vikas Academy on Saturday 17th Sept.’16.

The objective of the exhibition was to give students exposure to art and craft and display their creative talents in their own choice of medium.

The highlights of the display were paintings inspired by artist M. F. Hussain. The students work in calligraphy, craftworks done at VVA’s Centre for Excellence, gel candle making, fabric printing, wool & sock dolls, canvas shoes painting, Warli art, quilling art key chains, clay modeling, button collage, paper mache, tile painting, meal craft etc were also at display.

There was an excellent response from parents and students.

SPEED POST LETTER WRITING COMPETITION Goa Postal Division organized a Speed Post Letter Writing Competition. The objective of the competition was to motivate and to revive the interest among the school children in writing letters and to create awareness of Speed Post Premium product of India Post.

The students of Vidya Vikas Academy participated enthusiastically in the competition. The competition was held in the school on 20th September 2016, from 11.00am to 12.00 noon, in the presence of a representative of the Post Office.

The competition was conducted in two groups: Group A- classes V to VII Group B-classes VIII to X

The students had to write a formal letter addressed to the Chairman / Sarpanch of the Municipality / Village Panchayat of your city/village respectively. The topic was “Suggestions for improving the cleanliness in their village/ town.”

ROAD SAFETY WEEK “Road Safety Week” was observed by the Directorate of Transport, Govt. of Goa from 19th to 25th September. Pupils of Vidya Vikas Academy observed the Day on 21st September 2016.

They involved themselves to make charts and posters to promote road safety and display them during the school assembly. They were also briefed about the road safety rules and assurance of grievous injuries and deaths due to road accidents.

DELL – “AARAMBH” WORKSHOP We are all aware about the Prime Minister’s Digital India Initiative and Vidya Vikas Mandal is also working on the same lines and is on a digital highway. As a part of the ‘Digital India Initiative’, VVM’s Vidya Vikas Academy organised a workshop - “Dell Aarambh – A PC for Education Initiative” in association with Dell India Pvt. Ltd. and Rotract Inner Wheel, Margao on 26th September 2016. The objective of the workshop was to facilitate the teachers with various internet skills and to give them an insight of different websites which can be used to gather educational and resourceful information. The topics covered were Basics of Computers and Advanced Internet Skills. The resource person was Mr. Sham Gawas. Teachers of Vidya Vikas Academy teaching Pre-Primary to Class 7 participated in the workshop. The administrative staff of VVM’s G. R. Kare College of Law also attended the same. The officials of Rotaract and Inner Wheel Club were present on the occasion. RAINBOW DAY The Pre-Primary pupils celebrated the ‘Rainbow Day’ on the 28th of September 2016 with great enthusiasm on the colours and formation

of the rainbow.

The objective of celebrating this day is to develop foundation among the children for linking concepts and procedures with active experiences through rainbow colours. The rainbow formation and its colours was explained to enhance pupils knowledge of the world through observation of surroundings. The children of Jr.Kg. C performed a rainbow dance and all the children sang “Counting colours of the rainbow”. All the children came dressed in coloured clothes. The assembly was co-ordinated by Tr. Hilda, Tr. Melbina and Tr. Monica.

SENIOR SECONDARY SECTION

WORKSHOP ON “LEADERSHIP IN ACTION AND TEAM WORK” The newly elected Student Council members of Vidya Vikas Academy attended an activity based workshop –“Leadership in Action and Team Work” on 1st September 2016 jointly organized by R.M.S Higher Secondary & Vidya Vikas Academy at the Ganesh Daivanjna hall, Kare College. The workshop commenced with the resource people – Mr. Anthony Paes and Mr. Benthovan introducing the topic and discussing how to set smart goals as a leader for his entire team. Various activities were conducted to help the council members understand the essence, importance and functioning of a team. Valuable skills such as team work, organizational skills, prioritizing and qualities essential in a good leader were taught and discussed. Overall, it was an enlightening experience for the students and they were satisfied and content with the important lessons they had learnt.

TALK ON ASTRONOMY The Universe is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper. To encourage our students to explore and learn more, our students attended a talk on “Astronomy: Exploring the Universe” on 14th September 2016 at Vidya Vikas Academy. The talk was presented by Mr. Rakesh Rao, employee of the Astronomical Unit, Panaji. He shared various facts and imparted information to the students about the solar system and the galaxies present in the universe. He also introduced them to the different career options in the field of science and Astronomy. He exchanged views on the upcoming science projects. Inspiring videos on Astronomy and research in science were shown to the students. The talk was very informative and opened new avenues for thought among the students. September 14, 2016

SHAKESPEARE FEST 2016 The much awaited Shakespeare fest organized by Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science was held on 14th September 2016. Students of Vidya Vikas Academy, Senior Sec. From class XII B, Neha Thomas staged a marvellous performance in ‘The Bard’ while Savio displayed his fine art skills in the ‘Mozaic’. Nicole Baracho and Jason Fernandes revealed their creativity in ‘Bedtime Shakespeare’ The uncompromised efforts put in by the students won the school the Overall Ist Runners up trophy. Tr. Aarti Aiyar was the incharge and co-ordinator of the event.

WORLD OZONE DAY September 16 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. Ozone is a colourless gas with most of its part present in stratosphere. It protects us from harmful ultraviolet radiations emitted by the Sun. Its preservation has become an issue of great concern worldwide due to excessive use of CFCs and other chemicals. To create awareness about World Ozone Day, Sr. Sec Section of Vidya Vikas Academy organised special assembly on 17th September 2016. Students of class XI actively participated in the assembly. The day began with the school prayer and pledge followed by a short introduction on the meaning and reason for the celebration of Ozone day. Further, the thought for the day stating “Earth without Ozone is like a house without a roof” was shared. A very influential and informative video was shown to the students on the same. The assembly concluded with the students singing the National Anthem. The assembly was co-ordinated by Tr. Shaheena Basha
