CHOCOLATE DAY CELEBRATIONS (PRE-PRIMARY) Chocolate day was held on Friday, July 27th 2018, for the pre primary section. A special assembly was conducted by the students of Nursery ‘A’ and junior’ A’. Tr.Cinija gave the introduction about the relevance of chocolates. Tr.Loreta spoke about the good and ill affects of consuming chocolates. The chocolatey fashion show was conducted by the children of Nursery and Junior kg, which was followed by a dance.
Tr.Fatima compared the chocolatey fashion show which was organised for the students. They came dressed with costumised outfits. Children sang and danced to the tune of a special song taught to them about the chocolate day. A video on “ Charlie and the chocolate factory” was shown to the pupils. Children enthusiastically enjoyed making the chocolate biscuit cake in their respective class n relished it. A treasure hunt was also held class wise. Co-ordinators Tr. Fatima Diniz, Tr. QUIZ – SAVE OUR OCEANS The monthly activity for July was “Quiz on Save our oceans”. This was conducted for classes 6 to 8 in two levels . First level was conducted on 6th July 2018 for all the students . From every class two representatives were selected and six groups were formed. The second level was conducted on 23rd July 2018 in the presence of all three divisions of class 6.

It was held in three rounds and the winners were rewarded with a memento. The quiz was very informative to the students. They gained the knowledge about the fauna, flora and the pollution in the oceans.

LIBRARY DAY
The Birth Anniversary of Late Dr.S.R.Ranganathan, Father of Library Science, also marked as National Librarian’s Day was commemorated at VVA. A small programme was organised on 13th August in the School Library, Comba, Margao Goa. During the assembly, class 8A highlighted the importance of the celebration of Library Day followed by various quotations read out by Students. In the Library, Dhruv Desai of class 5C, briefly stated the contributions made by the Father of Library Science and also highlighted the Laws of Library Science. The Programme began by paying tribute to Dr.S.R.Ranganathan, garlanding the portrait at the hands of the Vice-Principal Tania Monteiro, followed by the lighting of the traditional Lamp along with Librarian Archana Pednekar, Asst.Librarian Nutan Naik, Parent Representatives and a student. To celebrate this occassion a small exhibition of Fiction books, Reference books, books on Hindi and Konkani Languages were exhibited. Story Telling Competition for classes 4 A,B ,C and 5 A,B, C was also conducted. Students recited stories with actions,expressions and voice modulation. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
15th August is a historical and significant day for the Indians. On this day in the year 1947, India was liberated from the British rule. Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated the 71stIndependence Day in the school campus with zeal and fervor on Wednesday,15th August, 2018 . The programme was as follows: Tr. Archana Verma welcomed the gathering on the occasion of Independence Day. The Principal Mrs. Joble Bijoy unfurled the National Flag followed by the National Anthem. An Oath taking ceremony was conducted by the NCC Cadets. The Principal addressed the students emphasizing the importance of this occasion and encouraged the students to participate with great enthusiasm in activities like Green School and Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan. The pupils of Pre-Primary sang a medley of patriotic songs. A speech in Hindi was delivered by Miss Sejal Biradar of Class 7 C. The students of Class 8 demonstrated the message of “Say No To
Plastic” through their beautiful dance performance. The students spread the feelings of sacrifice and patriotism by singing the song “Aai Vatan” trained by Sir Neil. Students were presented with certificates and trophies for their excellent performance at the various competitions. Thereafter the students of class 11 enacted the roles of different great Indian leaders. A patriotic dance “Vande Mataram” was performed by the students of class 7 with great zeal and energy. The programme was compeered by Miss Nidhi Khanolkar of Class 7 C. Tr. Satya Sharma proposed the Vote of Thanks. There was a Live Streaming of the programme at five different locations in the school. It was co-ordinated by Sir Akshay Chari (Overall In-charge), Mrs, Pradnya Nadkarni, Mrs. Sweta Verenkar and Mr. Aniket Sawardekar. The programme concluded with the National Song “Vande Mataram” sung by Miss Sharda Phadke and Miss Dhiti Lotlikar. Co-ordinator Tr. Archana Verma
INDEPENDENCE DAY – PRE PRIMARY
Pre primary section celebrated the Independence day on 14th August 2018. A special assembly was conducted by the pupils of Sr.Kg ‘B’ on this occasion. Tr.Leena gave the introduction and spoke all about the Independence day. She also explained what they could do in their own small ways to protect and respect our mother land India.
Pupils who were dressed up as freedom fighters delivered the famous slogans and quotes with full zest. Followed by this was the patriotic song ” Mera Desh”sung by the Jr.kg ABC pupils. Last but not the least were the pupils of sr.kg ‘ B’ who danced to the tune of “Phir bhi dil hai hindustani” with great enthusiasm.
The assembly ended with the echoes of ” Bharat mata ki jai” and “jai hind” by our Principal Mrs.Joble Bijoy, along with a few appreciative and motivating words to the pupils and teachers.

WEALTH OUT OF WASTE – ACTIVITY
Little hands and imaginative minds came together in a creative burst of energy during the activity “wealth out of waste” held on 20th July organised by VidyaVikas Academy. The theme of the activity was ‘Our Ocean, Our future’ and students left no stone unturned in using the waste for the best of their use. Students of class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 standards of all divisions prepared very creative and innovative models and art items from different waste materials, which were then put up in the exhibition held on 21st July. They used reusable and recyclable materials like news papers, shoe boxes, bangles, ice cream sticks and much more. From these items, they created an amazing array of display items and useful everyday objects leaving everyone totally impressed. The values like preservation, recycling, conservation, reduce, reuse etc are imbibed on the young heart and minds by demonstrating this noble act of caring our environment. Coordinator

DECLAMATION : SAVING THE OCEANS
VVA has always strived to groom the conscientious and concerned citizens. Activity of the Month for the month of July was planned with the same objective. It aimed at making students think about and discuss the issues of global importance.The students of classes 9 and 10 participated enthusiastically in Declamation and expressed their views about ‘Saving The Oceans’. Aditya Mitra(10 A),Tanishk Patel (10 A), Ronisha Paes(10 B), Pandurang Kamat(9 A) and Tiara Fernandes(9 C) excelled in the activity.

RAKSHA BANDHAN CELEBRATION
Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrated globally where a sister ties a Rakhi (a sacred thread) around her brother’s wrist. It is a symbol of love and protection in the relationship. On the 27th of August, 2018, the National Cadet Corps of Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated Raksha Bandhan at 3MTR Military Camp.Eleven girl NCC Cadets accompanied by 2 teachers; Tr. Pradnya Nadkarni and NCC Officer Sir. Sidharth Fal Dessai visited 3 MTR, Rawanfond and tied Rakhis to 50 soldiers to acknowledge their selfless service towards the Nation.It was a wonderful Moment for the students. MONSOON HIKE 2018-19
Monsoon hikes are moments filled with joy and happiness and an opportunity for adventure in outdoor life to appreciate the Mother Nature. Vidya Vikas Academy organized a monsoon hike for the students of Class 9 & 10 on Saturday, 18th August 2018 to Paddi- Barcem Panchayat area, Quepem – Goa. 184 students were accompanied by 15 teachers and 4 attendants. The hike begun at 7:25 am and ended at 2:15 pm. Students had an adventurous as well as learning experience. l the students experienced how to descend a hill by balancing their body weight and also they learnt about the basic needs of physical fitness required for hiking.. NCC 3 MTR CAMP VISIT
The NCC Cadets of Vidya Vikas Academy visited 3 MTR Camp at Rawanfond,Goa on 14th August 2018. Mr.Sidharth Fal desai NCC Officer and PE Teacher Balika Phaldesai accompanied the NCC cadets during their visit. During the visit to 3 MTR Camp the cadets were shown the following activities and were briefed about them-: Road Safety Awareness Different weapons like-Insas,LMG-Light machine gun Different types of trenches(bunkers) and tunnels Different ship models and their role in the navy Social activities of NCC Sand Model of Battlefield and explanation
The NCC cadets also performed some physical activities which included Vertical Rope Climbing Horizontal Rope Climbing Toe Touch Rope Swinging etc.
The NCC cadets had a good experience and gained valuable knowledge and were very impressed by the displayed weapons,trenches and models. Coordinator

” No School Bag Day” was held on 31st August 2018 with the theme ” Color my World” The day was well planned and organised by the teachers of classes 1 to 5. Various activities like art and craft work, food activity , videos, puzzles, worksheets, songs were conducted. An
Achievers mock test was conducted in every class.

SENIOR SECONDARY SECTION August 2, 2018
WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY & INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY
A special assembly was conducted on the 27th of July
2018 to commemorate World Nature Conservation Day
and the International Tiger Day, which is observed
world over on 28th July and 29th July respectively.
Students of class 11 participated in the assembly.
The assembly aimed at spreading awareness about the
need of the hour to conserve earth’s vital natural resources. It also focuses on the global campaign for
protecting natural habitats of tigers and promoting
tiger conservation. The assembly started off by briefing
the students about the importance of the above
mentioned days followed by the screening of a couple
of videos. The assembly was concluded by sharing
some simple tips that can help you to adopt a green
lifestyle if one follows it rigorously.

NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SCIENTOONS
National workshop on Scientoons was organized by
the Department of Biotechnology, in association with
Department of Science, Technology and Environment
Porvorim, Goa on 18th August 2018 at Parvatibai
Chowgule College of Arts and Science Autonomous,
Gogol. Students of class 11, Saloni Sawant Dessai and
Rayyan Banu participated in hands on National
workshop on Scientoons. The resource person for the
workshop was Dr. Pradeep Srivastava. He is
‘Scientoonist’ and Deputy. Director (Sr. Principal
Scientist) in the Medicinal & Process Chemistry
Division, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute,
Lucknow.
‘Scientoonics’ is a new branch of science that deals with effective science communication using a novel class of science cartoons called ‘Scientoons’. Scientoons are the cartoons, based on science which not only makes one smile and laugh but also provide information about
new researches, subjects, data and concepts in a simple, understandable, interesting and thought-provoking way.
The workshop explicitly trained the participants, gave exposure and hands on training to enhance their skills
through creativity on sketching science cartoons on beautiful Goa on the theme of “GREEN GOA: CLEAN GOA”.
The students had good exposure and learnt the art of using cartoons in the field of science.

MONSOON HIKE
On 11th August 2018, the students and the teachers of the
Senior Secondary Section of Vidya Vikas Academy went on a
Monsoon Hike to Paddi, situated in Quepem taluka. Since it
was soon after the end of the unit test, the hike seemed like a
much awaited reward after all the toil.
After a long one hour bus drive passing through remote
villages and forested surroundings we reached the foot of
the lush green hills at around 9:30 am from where we
started trekking up the hill. Walking on the rocky path
through the forest and crossing the rain fed clear streams
and green fields, all the trekkers reached a grassland among
the hills.The trekkers covered the distance of 5
kilometers.The smell of the earth and the rustling of the
leaves drew students closer to the nature.
The students rejuvenated their energy by feasting on some snacks and beverages. The students entertained
themselves by playing football and other exciting games.After relaxing at this beautiful place we walked downhill
to a stream where we spent the rest of the time in bathing and splashing water at each other.Although our bodies
were tired but our spirits were refreshed. Everyone enjoyedthemselves and went home with beautiful
memories.

MONOLOGUE COMPETITION
Shree Damodar Higher Secondary School of Science, Margao had organized an Inter-Higher Secondary
Monologue Competition on 18th August 2018. The competition was held in two categories: Konkani and Marathi
respectively. Fifteen institutes all over Goa competed against one another fervently to uplift the trophies in
respected categories. It gave the participants an opportunity to showcase their dramatic and oratory skills.
Shanaya Phal Desai from class 12 represented Vidya Vikas Academy and gave a tough competition to the other
competitors.It was truly a learning experience for the participants.

WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY & PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
The World Photography Day commemorates the artistry of a photographer. Photographs have the potential of evoking memories and taking us back in time. The day also serves as an inspiration for many to take up photography as a profession or to pursue it as a zealous hobby. To observe this day activities like Photography Contest cum exhibition and a session on “Creative Photography” was organised by the Sr.
Secondary Section of Vidya Vikas Academy on 18th August 2018.
The celebration began with a special assembly. The main motive was to enlighten the students about the history of World Photography Day. A short speech on the significance of the day was delivered followed by the screening of an

informative documentary on the evolution of camera technology.
Mr Harsh Kamat, a professional photographer and alumnus of Ar.Co: Centro de Arte & Comunicação Visual in Lisbon, Portugal was the guest speaker and the judge for the photography competition. His lecture focused on travelling photography and techniques of capturing good photographs with appropriate angles. He concluded by sharing some important tips to follow while clicking pictures.
Photography Contest
The contest was held in three categories, Category A – Classes 5 – 7, Category B – Classes 8-12 and Category C – Staff of VVA (teaching and Non-Teaching staff). 47 students along with the staff members from Vidya Vikas Academy actively participated in the contest. The contest was arranged to bring out the hidden talent of photography in the students and staff members. It revolved around the theme “Moods on streets of Goa” The photography exhibition was judged by Mr Harsh Kamat on the criteria of originality, uniqueness of concept, appropriateness to the theme, clarity of expression and creativity.

SWACHH VIDYALAYA PURASKAR AWARD CEREMONY-2017
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India launched ‘Swachh Vidyalaya’ initiative to ensure that all schools in India have access to separate functional toilets for boys and girls. The ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar’ was instituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2016 to recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence in sanitation and hygiene practices in schools.
The explicit purpose of the award is to honour the schools that have undertaken significant steps towards fulfilling the mandate of the ‘Swachh Vidyalaya’ campaign. Vidya Vikas Academy

Goa on 21st August 2018. The program began by observing a minute silence for the departed soul of our former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Mrs Nila Mohanan (Secretary of Education-Goa) presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest where as Mr.Levinson Martins (North Goa Collector) and Tariq Thomas (South Goa Collector) were invited over as the guest of honour. The other dignitaries on the dais were Mr.Gajanan P. Bhat (Directorate of Education), Mr Nagaraj Honnekeri (Director SCERT), Mr Kanta Patnekar, (Chairman of GEDC), Mr Shambhu Ghadi (Ast.Director of Education) and Mr Laxmikant Parsekar (Former CM of Goa).
The awards were presented by Mrs Nila Mohanan. VVA received 3 Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar awards, one for the State Level, second for the District Level Award and third in Toilet sub-category. VVA outshined with an overall score of 90% & has been accorded 5 star ratings.
