Summary The textile association of India (TAI), Mumbai Unit organized their first exhibition on the textile industry in Vapi from 18th-20th October. The exhibition saw huge participation from textile industry stalwarts across the country.

Inaugural Session - Details The inaugural session was started by the auspicious “Diya Lighting” by the Chief Guest and Guest of

Honors.

Welcome Address – C. Bose

Mr. C. Bose, TAI (Mumbai) welcomed the dignitaries on

the dais and the delegates, visitors & media personnel. He

thanked the TAI (Mumbai Unit) for taking this initiative and

organizing the exhibition. He mentioned that Vapi holds a

special place for the textile industry and hoped that the

Vapi, Silvasa, Daman belt becomes a world class textile

belt.

He welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. Chatterje and thanked

him for all his help and support. He welcomed the Guest of Honors, Mr. Bachkaniwala and Mr. Dembla

and appreciated them for their immense contribution to the textile industry.

He thanked the entire industry community for their support and asked them to give feedback to make

this a better event.

The welcome address was then followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honors.

Welcome Address – G.V.Aras & Haresh Parekh

Mr. G. V. Aras (Exhibition Chairman) and Mr. Haresh Parekh (Exhibition Convener) welcomed the

dignitaries and visitors to the exhibition event. They thanked TAI, GOI, GOG and iNDEXTb for all their

support in organizing the event.

They indicated that this was the first exhibition by TAI and its objectives are to address the needs of the

entire value chain of the textile industry. The exhibition will focus on various aspects of the industry

such as fashion, fabric, dyes, manufacturing technologies and new developments which can be used by

all.

Welcome Address –C. Bhatt

Mr. C. Bhatt, VIA welcomed the audience and explained the importance of Vapi, Silvasa region for the

textile industry. He emphasized the fact that GoG initiatives, and availability of the water and labor

resources makes Vapi a good destination to open and expand the textile industry.

He congratulated TAI (Mumbai Unit) for organizing the exhibition. He extended support on behalf of VIA

for any such event in the future.

Welcome Address –R. Bachkaniwala (Guest of Honor)

Mr. R. Bachkaniwala welcomed the dignitaries and thanked TAI for organizing the event. In his address

he gave constructive feedback for organizing exhibitions for benefit of industry and end users.

He explained that exhibitions are becoming the new norm in India to promote industry and that the

exhibition industry is growing at a rate of 28-29% CAGR for the past few years. However he cautioned

the industry to not overdo on the exhibitions as it may have a reversal effect. He suggested to keep the

exhibition more focused and to make sure regional factors are taken into consideration before

organizing any exhibition.

He highlighted on the needs of good quality exhibition centers across India which on par with the ones

available in Europe and stressed on need of a good journal. He suggested Vapi should also invest in

developing a state of the art exhibition centre as developed by Surat.

He concluded his address by inviting all the guests to be present at the 69th National and 11th

International Conference to be held at Surat on 20-21st December 2013 on textile industry.

Welcome Address – D. Dembla (Guest of Honor)

Mr. D. Dembla, welcomed the dignitaries and thanked TAI for organizing the event.

He gave a brief profile of ITMMA and its role and explained how the organization is working for the

benefit of the industry. He specified that ITMMA has on board members which range from the entire

spectrum of textile manufacturing machines in India.

He gave a few statistics about the textile industry and stated that the textile machinery industry is

growing at a rate of 7%. However he expressed his concern that the imports are on the rise and exports

are declining, thus suggesting a need of indigenization of equipments through JV’s, collaborations. He

also suggested using the upcoming textile destinations like Bangladesh as a destination for our exports.

He thanked TAI on behalf of ITMMA and all its members and wished the event a huge success.

This was followed by the release of the India TEX 2013 catalogue by the hands of respected Dr. Chandan

Chatterje

Welcome Address – Dr. Chatterje (Chief Guest)

Dr. Chandan Chatterje, began his presentation by recalling about initial days of TAI and how it has

gradually shifted its focus from only technology to technology with business.

He spoke about the role of iNDEXTb in Gujarat and explained the philosophy of its logo. He also

mentioned the role of CED and how it stands for sustainable development. He mentioned that Gujarat

was the first state to establish a training institute as early as 1977.

He explained that the industry today is a very dynamic industry and there is need for more R&D

initiatives. He urges the industry players to adopt the latest and best automation technology to improve

the falling margins. He elaborated on the importance of skilled labor and skill development and stated

that the State policy supports the creation of skill development centers.

He highlighted that today’s need is not just growth but balance growth and that the government’s

textile policy focuses on the same.

He concluded by thanking TAI for organizing this exhibition, which can be used as a means to make the

Indian industry competitive in the world.

Vote of Thanks

Mr. A. V. Mantri, thanked everyone for making the exhibition a huge success. He thanked the guest of

honors, TAI (Mumbai) Unit members, Sponsors, Media partners, & the event management company,

Green Apple for all their efforts and support.

He gave a special thanks to Dr. Chatterje and iNDEXTb for their never ending support.

This was followed by the National Anthem and the Ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the

exhibition.

Exhibition Details The exhibition had 66 stalls from areas of fashion to fabric technology and manufacturing. It witnessed huge footfalls from professionals, consultants and technocrats from the textile industry.

Some of the major

exhibitors included ATE Enterprises, ITAMMA, Palod Himson Machines, Prashant Gamatex, VJTI and Nilkamal.

Way Forward

Textile industry today is a very dynamic industry and there is need for more R&D initiatives. The

industry players need to adopt the latest and best automation technology to improve the falling

margins.

The imports are on the rise and exports are declining, thus there is a need of indigenization of

equipments through JV’s, collaborations. Upcoming textile destinations like Bangladesh can be

explored as a destination for our exports.

There is a need of good quality exhibition centers across India which on par with the ones available

in Europe and need of a good journal.
