HunterDouglas® Vertical Blinds are an ideal window covering inany office, work space or public building, both from thedecorative and the functional point of view. These low-maintenance blinds are available in aluminium, fabric or PVCvanes in different widths (70, 89, 127, 250 mm) and a wideselection of finishes, textures and colours.

HunterDouglas® Vertical Blinds allow maximum coverage oflarge windows at a cost-effective price. Our vertical track isexceptionally durable and features a range of carrier trainsystems to fit a variety of applications, including choices forcurves, slopes, and motorization.

Vertical Venetian Blinds are available in a range ofperforations & combinations of vanes. The choice of multipleperforations in one vane or blind allow you to choose howmuch or how little light you let in. This enables you tocombine a balanced approach in daylighting, outside view,privacy and glare control.

SYSTEM PROPERTIES

The standard blind consists of a straight,horizontal head rail, made with naturalanodized or powder coated extrudedaluminium, size 40 x 25 mm.Manual operated by a metal ball chain fortilting and a cord for spreading andstacking, the controls can be placed left,right or left and right (two in one head rail).

COMPONENTS

Slat travellersSlat travellers made from transparantplastic have a built-in slat hook that areapplied with horizontally mounted tracks.For sloped tracks and vertical curved tracksa patented adjustable slat hook is used.

Optional: Traveller stop removableThe traveler stop/removable, made fromplastic will hold the train to prevent thevane stack from touching the wall.

SLATS & VANES

Slats and vanes widths:• Aluminium: 70 and 89 mm• PVC: 89 and 127 mm• Fabric/Screen: 89, 127 and 250 mmAluminium and PVC are available indifferent types of perforations (Multivision™)or plain in a range of colours. Screen/fabricvanes are also available in a variety ofopenness factors (OF) and colours. Screenfabrics made of Enduris™ Glass Core andfabrics made of Trevira CS are certified FireRetardant, according to M1 and B1.

CONNECTION SLATS AND VANES

The slat-hooks are made with durableplastic. PVC and aluminium slats aredirectly hooked into the slat hooks. Fabricvanes are fitted with a slat carrier, that ishooked into the slat hooks.Vanes have a sealed-in bottom plate, or achain linked bottom plate in a pocket.The bottom plate can be linked or unlinkedsealed in. The linkage can be both a plasticor a brass ball chain. The outside vanes areweighted down by an extra loading piece toprevent the vanes from hanging inward dueto the bottom linkage. Fabric vanes areweighted down with a bottom plate.Aluminium vanes can be linked by metalchains (optionally).

BRACKETS

Extension brackets, made from steel areused for wall mounting. The bracket canbe extended to the required dimension.Clip-in brackets, made off spring steel areused for ceiling suspension and come in3 versions:1. for ceiling mounting or mounting in arecess track

2. for securing the head rail with a screw3. for sloping systems and in applicationswhere the rail might shift.

CONTROL OPTIONS

TiltingA spline shaft (for straight head rails), or acable shaft (for curved head rails), made ofaluminium is used to tilt the slats. The slattravelers have a self adjusting mechanismto prevent the slats from damaging the slathook. The track is fitted with a re-alignmentmechanism to redirect wrongly tilted slats,applied by pulling through the end stopwhen tilting.The ball chain is the control mechanism totilt the slats. The shaft is secured on bothsides with a speed nut and whennecessary, the tilt action can be adjusted toa 4:1 drive for light tilting or to preventslats from tilting too swiftly.

MonocommandoThe monocommand blind consists of astraight, horizontally head rail, made fromnatural anodized or powder coatedextruded aluminium, size 40 x 25 mm.A ball chain is used for both tilting,spreading and stacking. All movements canbe controlled by a single chain.

MotorizedThe motor-controlled blind consists of astraight, horizontally head rail, made fromnatural anodized or powder coatedextruded aluminium, size 40 x 25 mm, anda motor which controls tilting, spreadingand stacking. The motor is placed behindthe rail. Total size 81.1 x 25 mm.

Tilt-OnlyThe Tilt-Only blind consists of a straight, horizontally head rail, made with natural anodizedor powder coated extruded aluminium, size 40 x 25 mm. and a cord for spreading andstacking. The standard ball chain used for tilting is replaced by a remote controlled batterypowered motor.The Tilt-Only motor is available in a left and a right sided version and is installed at thereturn endcap.

Special Systems

HEAD AND BOTTOM RAIL SYSTEM

The head and bottom rail consist of anumber of elements:- straight, horizontally mounted head andbottom rail;

- slats and separate controls for tilting (ballchain) spreading and stacking (cord);

- control side can be left, right or left andright (two in one head rail).

The head rail is equal to the head rail usedin a standard blind and the bottom rail is amirror image of the head rail. To make surethat the slats are tightened between thehead- and bottom rail, a slat traveller isused with a (spring loaded) slat hook.A cord weight is not used.

CEILING SUSPENDED SYSTEM

The ceiling suspended blind is equal to thehead and bottom rail blind except that itwill be mounted horizontally and will havean extra ball chain for floor-standing tiltcontrol.The ball chain and the cord are situated onone side. On the other side is the extra ballchain for the floor-standing tilt control. Forspreading and stacking only the cord canbe used.

SLOPE SYSTEMS

The slope blind consists of a straight headrail, made from natural anodized or powdercoated extruded aluminium, size40 x 25 mm, mounted under an angle,slats with different lengths. The blind istilted by a ball chain, spreading andstacking by cord or optional motor. Thecontrol set slope will hang straight down.A Hunter Douglas patented adjustable slopehook, made with transparant plastic is usedto secure vane alleignment on the windowsill.

VERTICALLY/HORIZONTALLYCURVED SYSTEMS

The vertically curved blind has a curvedhead rail, made with natural anodized orpowder coated extruded aluminium, size40 x 25 mm, slats with different lengthswith a ball chain for tilting and a cord forspreading and stacking. The control setslope will hang straight down.(Not available in 250 mm slats)

A straight horizontal head rail, made withnatural anodized extruded aluminium, size40 x 25 mm. Manual operated by a metalball chain for tilting and a cord forspreading and stacking. The control sidecan be left, right or left and right.Optional: motorized operation

The 250 mm wide panels, made ofcertified Fire Retardant Enduris™ Glass Corescreen fabrics or Trevira CS fabrics can befinished with aluminium or wooden strips,widths 20 or 50 mm.

The strips are fixed at the top and bottomof the vane and a maximum of 2 additionalstrips can be placed in the middle sectionof the panel. The colour of the head rail isnatural anodized aluminium.

AntibacterialThe HunterDouglas® PVC collection offers 3 materials (2416, 2417, 2418) in 89 mm vanewidth, which have built-in antimicrobic protection, that will keep the vanes cleaner andfresher throughout time; the antimicrobic protection will inhibit the growth of bacteria andmold that can cause stains, odours and deterioration.

MetalizedThe aluminium layer on the backside of the screen fabric improves the solar energyperformance. It keeps the heat outside during summer and reduces the loss of heat duringwinter, due to reflecting aluminium layer.

LIGHT CONTROL

Multivision™ ConceptThe perforation patterns or openness factorsof the Enduris™ Glass Core screen fabrics,aluminium and PVC vanes are an idealsolution for optimal daylight regulation andlight transmission throughout the building.

The materials are available in a range ofperforation combinations.

CLOSURE OPTIONS AND VANE BUNDLE

Vertical Blinds can be opened from left toright or vice-versa, towards the middle orfrom the middle towards the ends of thetrack. An indication of the width of thevane bundle for an opened blind is shownin the table (on the previous pages).

The operation cord (spreading) and ballchain (tilting) can be:• Left / left• Left / right• Right / right• Right / left

TWO BLINDS MOUNTED ADJACENTLYWITH OVERLAP/TWO-IN-ONE BLIND

In order to bridge large widths two blindscan be mounted against each other in sucha way that they give the impression of one,uninterrupted track. The vanes can bemade to overlap between the blinds, sothat no interruption is visible when the blindis closed.

It is also possible to mount two separatelyoperated blinds within one integrated headrail. This is an ideal solution for covering forinstance, a door and window next to eachother. The illustration shows the variousclosing options.

Seemingly small increases of as little as1% in productivity could result in a muchhigher payback than the reduced cost ofenergy.

COMFORT

Comfort can be described as ‘the stateof mind that expresses satisfaction withthe surrounding environment’.

Indoor environmental quality hasessentially four dimensions:

1. Thermal comfort;2. Visual comfort;3. Acoustic comfort;4. Indoor air quality.

It is an accepted fact that people preferto experience daylight through visualcontact with the outside world. This istherefore, generally recognized as animportant factor in influencing people’spositive emotional state.

Situations that cause visual discomfortcan frequently arise. The light, glare orreflection levels are just too bright andcontrasts too large for optimal workingconditions.

Workspaces which are comfortable, naturally lit and allow occupants to connect withoutdoor space can improve productivity and reduce absenteeism. Research on therelationship between day lighting and productivity shows that the use of daylightwithout glare resulted in productivity gains in the order of 4%. To fully optimise thebenefits of daylight, control systems can be integrated in the sun control solution.

VISUAL COMFORT

Interior Window Coverings enable theuse of free renewable daylight to themaximum extent, so significantlyreducing the need for artificial lightingand avoiding the associated coolingloads.

The accepted factor in creating visualcomfort states that the contrast withinthe field of view should not exceed afactor of 10. The contrast between thecentral visual task and its direct surroun-dings should not exceed a factor of 3.

When designing an office space, ques-tions often arise around what measuresshould be considered to guarantee theright level of visual comfort?

Energy and Light Tool

The function of Window Coverings is to provide visual comfort and heatcontrol. The primary function of interior window coverings is to reduceglare levels and diffusing daylight. The primary function of ExternalWindow Coverings is heat control.

Light Tool calculations are based on Radiance (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories). The scene model consists ofapproximately 20,000 polygons. Colours and reflection values were measured in an actual model office.

The Hunter Douglas Energy Toolhelps finding an optimumsolution by quantifying theeffects of various ExternalWindow Coverings.The pay-off will be reducedenergy costs and often reducedinvestment cost, and on top ofthat: reduced greenhouse gasemission during the operationphase of the building.

The Hunter Douglas Light Toolmakes the assessment of visualcomfort tangible by calculatingluminance levels for a modeloffice with and without windowcoverings. The amount and typeof glass, the orientation of thefaçade, the geographical location,weather, season and time of dayare all taken into account beforerecommendations are made.

The Light Tool helps client’sasses which window coveringprovides the aesthetic andperformance levels needed tocreate visual comfort for theirparticular project.

THERMAL COMFORT

External Window Coverings will preventexcessive solar heat gain and reduce theneed for cooling in the summer.Moreover, it will also reduce - if noteliminate - the high capacity of coolingequipment needed, resulting in areduction in the initial investment cost.

In colder climates, External WindowCoverings will enable the use of solarenergy to help heat the building inwinter. This is often overlooked whensolar control glass is selected for heatcontrol.

Thermal comfort at a minimal environ-mental impact calls for a carefulmatching of glazing, Sun Control andHVAC equipment.
