PURPOSEThisVerticalTransportservicesstandardsetsoutMacquarieUniversitysminimumrequirementsforthedesign, construction andmaintenance of Vertical Transport systems. TECHNICALREQUIREMENTS</p><p>5.1. INTRODUCTIONThe aim of this manual is to assist consultants, Project managers, D &amp; C Contractors and Builders.Generally,therelevantAustralianstandardsaretobecompliedwithunlesstheUniversityrequiresthatahigherstandardbemet.VariationsfromthestandardaretobeapprovedbyMUP.FortheavoidanceofdoubttheVTSofaUniversitybuildingmayincludestructural/buildingelements,oranyothertradeworksotherthantheelevatortradewhicharecontingentonthefunctioningoftheVTS. (Eg.BuildingTradeaccesscontrolcontractor,etc</p><p>It should alsobe noted that theUniversity is a long termowner of the property and so appropriateconsiderations are to be made in terms of quality of installation, efficiency in operation, ease ofmaintenanceandsafety,longtermreliability,andflexibilityforchangeofuse(wherefeasible).</p><p>TheTechnicalServicesManagershallbeconsultedifanyconfusionarisesbeforeapplyingthisStandardGuide.Approvedvariationsmustalwaysbeinwritingortheywillnotbeaccepted.</p><p>5.2. DESIGNANDDOCUMENTATIONDESIGNAPPROACHTheUniversityexpectsconsultantsanddesignerstoprovidedesignsthatmeettheprojectbrief. Thefollowingareprioritiesthatconsultantsanddesignersmustbeawareofandconsiderintheirdesign:</p><p>a. A consultants return brief shall be provided for approval that confirms all aspects of theproject brief, design allowances, building fabric, usage and operating conditions,environmentalcriteria,designapproachandoptionstobeconsideredaspartoftheconceptdesignprocess;</p><p>b. Provideenvironmentalconditionsthatmeettheprojectbrief;c. Accessibility,easeofoperation,andeaseofmaintenance;e. Control systemsshallbedesignedwith simplicityand reliability inmind.Oftencontrolsare</p><p>madeoverly complicatedwhichcan lead to issues incommissioning,multiplepointsof failureandanoverlyonerousmaintenanceburden;</p><p>DESIGNINPUTSANDPROCESSTheUniversity expects consultants and designers toproactively inform, advise and contribute to thedesignprocess.</p><p>ENGINEERINGFUNCTIONSREQUIREDFROMDESIGNCONSULTANTSThe university expects consultants and designers to be fully qualified, experienced and capable ofcarrying out all engineering design, calculations, equipment selection, construction quality checks,overviewandverificationofcommissioning.</p><p>CALCULATIONSUse of computer modelling/simulation/estimation programs must be performed and show that theminimumdesigncriteriarequiredbytheMUPhavebeenmet.Thismustbepartofthedesignadviceforallservicestoverifythebuildingperformance.</p><p>DESIGNCONDITIONSFor2and3storeybuildingsthereisaminimumrequirementtoprovidealiftfortheverticalmovementoffurniture,goodsandpersonswithdisabilities.</p><p>Where the height of a building exceeds 10.5 metres or there are more than 3 floors served,considerationshouldbegiventomorethanoneliftbeinginstalled.</p><p>TYPESOFLIFTDRIVE&amp;ESCALATORSThetypeofliftdriveshallbebasedonthefollowing:</p><p> Electrohydraulic These lifts shall be used if upgrading existing lifts remaining the solediscretion of the University andONLY if utilising the latest Variable Frequency Hydro such asdesignedbyBucher(orsimilarhighqualityproduct)</p><p> Liftsdesignedforrestrictedaccess(suchasAS1735Part14,15&amp;16)shallnotbeused</p><p> GearedTheseliftsshallnotbeused,unlessupgradingexistingliftinstallations.</p><p> UnderslungbasementdriveliftsTheseliftsshallnotbeused</p><p>GEARLESSAllnewliftsshallbewithspeedsupto2.5metrespersecondshallbemachineroomlesslifts.Liftswithhigherspeedsshallrequireamachineroomatthetopoftheshaft.</p><p>ThehoistingmachinemotorshallbeamodernhighefficiencyinductionmotorandcorrectlymatchedtothenewVVVFdrive,liftcarloadsandspeedfortheliftscorrectandefficientoperation.</p><p>All lifts shalluse regenerativebraking,with theexcesspower to supply feedingback into thebuildingselectrical network. It shall be filtered so as not to cause interference to other building electrical,communicationsordataservices.</p><p>Shouldnormal electrical powerbe lost the lift shall have its ownemergencypower supply (byUPSorother appropriatemeans) to allow the lift to travel to the nearest landing, open the doors, allow anypassengertoleavetheliftcarandthenshutdowntoawaitthereturnofnormalelectricalsupply</p><p>ESCALATORSSHALLCOMPLYWITHTHEFOLLOWING: Stepchainsshallhaveaservicelifeofatleast100,000hours.</p><p> topremises buildings) Standards 2010, plus all lift car control buttons shall complywithclause8.3.4TactileLabellingofAS1735.12</p><p>Onlyliftscomplyingwith,AS1735Parts1orEN8120shallbeusedforprovidingaccessforpeoplewithdisabilities.</p><p>UnlesspriorapprovalfromtheUniversityisgiventhefollowingliftsshallnotbeusedfortheaccessofpeoplewithdisabilities:</p><p>AS1735.13
