JESCO DOSIERTECHNIK GmbH & Co. KG General VTP centrifugal pumps in block design (BBF) correspond to the system of two-pipe pumps. Basically these immersion pumps are single-level immersion pumps with vertical axis the main components of which are combined according to the proven module system. The drive motor is located in the dry section above the fastening plate. The pump head is immersed in the medium. VTP-BBF immersion pumps are designed without bearings and are suited to convey low-viscosity, aggressive acidic, alkaline and solutions from depressurized tanks. The efficient immersion depth can be increased by max. 300 mm by using a suction pipe. Furthermore the pump head can be equipped with a coarse at the suction connector. Constructiona l features VTP-BBF immersion pumps are characterized by their simple and sturdy design. The immersion pipe is fitted with a rigid supporting plate and thick sides. The sealing between spiral casing and immersion pipe is realized by a labyrinth seal. The hydraulic parts such as spiral casing, impeller, etc. are standard components from the standard pump program. The drive motor (basic version according to IEC) is equipped with an extended shaft. Therefore it is not necessary to provide the shaft with a bearing in the pump head area so that dry running is prevented and operation is almost maintenance-free. Applications There is a variety of possibilities to use vertical immersion pipes. They are generally suitable for applications which do not allow to convey the media from depressurized tanks, basins and reservoirs with dry pumps due to the local constructional, physical or safety requirements. The maximum operating temperature depends on the concentration of the medium, a temperature of 80° C must, however, not be exceeded for the material PP. Materials  All parts in contact with the medium are made of PP , elastomers are of EPDM or FPM. Shaft The drive shaft of high-quality steel is coated with a PP shaft protection pipe in the area of the medium. Impeller The impeller form is radial. The individual sizes are supplied with the following impellers: sizes 15-85, 20-120 and 25-135 in open form, all other sizes in closed form (open impellers on request). Delivery pipe Shaft with protection pipe Metering head Electric motor Immersion pipe Shaft seal Inlet and outlet pipe connection The suction opening is located in the lower section of the pump, i.e.: the medium enters the pump body axially. The outlet pipe connection is situated in the dry section above the tank cover. Drive Surface-cooled three-phase motors according to IEC standard, 2900 rpm, protection class IP55, insulation class F, mounting IM V1. The motor has an exended shaft.

This instruction manual should be read before installationand starting pump operation. Each JESCO pump isdesigned, tested and supplied according to the dataspecified in the order. If the operating conditions changeat a later date (e.g. other medium, viscosity, temperature,supply conditions, etc.), we must examine, and if necessary, confirm in each case if the pump can beoperated without modification. For damages which occur due to incorrect use or nonobservance of this instructionmanual, we take no liability.

GeneralPump descriptionVTP-BBF vertical immersion pumps are normal-suction,single-level, plastic centrifugal pumps in a vertical design.

The pumps of this series have been developed accordingto the requirements of the chemical industry and aremainly used to convey liquids which are pure or with alow solid content, acid or alkaline, and with a lowviscosity, from depressurized tanks.

The sealing between the spiral housing and the deliverypipe is ensured by a labyrinth seal.The drive motor (basic version according to IEC) isequipped with an extended shaft.

Prior to shipment each pump is subject to a functionaltest including measurement of the flow rate, head andthe power consumption of the motor.

Each pump has a label with the pump data and another one with the respective motor data. Please refer to theselabels when contacting us.

Transportation und storageNo particular precautions are required for thetransportation and storage of plastic centrifugal pumpsunder normal conditions. At an ambient temperatureunder -10 °C, it is necessary to protect all pump partsfrom impact stress by appropriate packing. Theconnection (delivery side) and the suction opening of the pump must be closed. The pump must be stored sothat the delivery pipe of the pump is not stressed.

When starting up a pump which has been stored for several years, the following measures must be taken.

Test the elastomer seals for elasticity- replace if necessary.

WarrantyPrior to shipment each pump is subject to a functionaltest including measurement of flow rate, head and power consumption of the motor. A warranty regarding materialresistance can only be given if the exact operatingconditions were known during the design phase of thedevice.

Not included in the warranty are all sealing elementsand wear part as well as damages which result fromnonobservance of these operating and maintenanceinstructions.

Assembly and installationAssembly of the complete pump unitEach complete pump unit is carefully aligned and testedbefore leaving the factory. When installed in a system,the complete unit must be fastened on a flat, stablesurface (tank cover or bracket) with the respectivemounting holes.

Laying the pipesNominal diametersThe nominal diameter of the pipe must not be smaller than the pump connection. For short pipes, the nominaldiameter should be large enough to ensure least flowresistance. For long pipes, the most economical nominaldiameter must be determined in each case.

Changes in diameter or directionSudden changes in the diameter or direction as well asextremely sharp bends should be avoided. Flange sealsmust not protrude inwards.

Support und flange mountingThe pipe should be connected to the pump without stress.lt should be supported near the pump and should bescrewed on easily to prevent tension. After looseningthe screws, the flanges must neither be tilted nor separated and may not press against each other.

An y te ns io n wh ic h may oc cu r at the pipe s (e .g .temperature influences, etc.) should be kept from thepump body by taking appropriate measures - such as

installing compensators.

Cleaning the pipes before assemblyBefore final assembly all the pipe parts and valves shouldbe cleaned carefully.

Delivery pipesDelivery pipe diametersDelivery pipe diameters should be dimensioned so thatthe flow rate is in the range of 1-3 m/s. The optimumpipe diameter within this range must be determined ineach individual case.

Valves in the delivery pipeShut-off valve

A shut-off valve should be integrated in the deliverypipe close to the pump so that the flow rate can beregulated.

Back stopFor long delivery pipes or higher pressures, a back stopmust be installed. Thus, the pump is mechanicallyrelieved and the medium conveyed cannot run back inthe case of a standstill. This prevents damaging pressureimpacts on the pump and foot valve.

General safety information- The operational safety of the pump is only warranted

when the pump is used as intended.

- All the equipment to protect against accidental contact(coupling guard) must be mounted before operationof the pump.

- Leakage of environmentally hazardous media mustbe disposed of according to the legal requirements.

- Take the dangers of mounting and dismounting intoconsideration. Make sure that the pump standssecurely. Check that the parts are fastened toprevent falling. Support or adjust loose parts.

- Connecting flanges, drilled holes and other openingson the pump must be closed during transportation andstorage.

Attention: Eyebolts on pump parts and motors must notbe used to lift the completely assembled pump or theentire pump unit. The eyebolts are only for lifting thedetached single parts during assembly and disassembly.

EC - machine directive- Any work on the complete pump unit may only

be done by authorized specialists.

- According to the Machine Directive 89/392/EEC, thesepump units are not regarded as machines; they can,however, be built into installations which areregarded as machines. In such cases, observe thefollowing note.

«We distinctly emphasize that operation is prohibiteduntil it has been confirmed that the machine (plant)into which these products have been builtcorresponds to the requirements of the EC MachineDirective 89/392/EEC. A respective declaration of conformity may be requested».

Electrical connectionThe electric motor mounted on the pump should beconnected according to the wiring instructions printedon the inside cover of the terminal box. In addition to theusual fuses, each pump motor must be protected with athermoswitch (see diagram). The external electricalconnection must be done by a specialist according tothe local regulations.

CommissioningPrior to operation- Remove any particles (solid matter) from the pipe.- Check pipe for leaks (pressure test).- Check if there is any stress on the pipe connections

to the pump- Check direction of rotation of complete unit (see

direction of rotation)- Remove delivery and suction stops- Fill tank before starting operation (minimum level)

Direction of rotationThe direction of rotation of the motor must coincide withthe directional arrow on the motor housing. The motor can be switched on briefly to check the direction of rotation. A wrong directionof rotation reduces the capacityand might damage the pump.

Start-upBefore start-up, check again if the system and the pumphave been satisfactorily filled and vented.

Motor switch-onShut-off valve on delivery sideImmediately after start-up, the shut-off valve on thedelivery side must be slightly opened so that, when thepump is started, the delivery line is properly vented.

Insufficient ventinglf the head does not increase with a higher speed, turnoff the pump and vent once more.

Adjusting output values After reaching operating speed, open the shut-off valveon the delivery side as far as necessary to reach therequired output values.

Operation with closed shut-off valveLonger operation with a closed shut-off valve on thedelivery side should be avoided by all means because,in addition to heating the medium conveyed, it mightdamage the pump.

Motor switch-off Delivery pipelf a non-return valve has been built into the delivery pipe,the shut-off valve can remain open. lf there is no non-return valve in the delivery pipe, the shut-off valve mustbe closed.

Switching the pump on againBefore switching the pump on again, check if the pumpshaft has stopped. lf the shut-off valve in the deliverypipe leaks or is not completely closed, the backflow of the medium could cause the pump shaft to turnbackwards.

Changing the operating dataHigher density of the medium conveyedlf the density of the medium conveyed is higher thanindicated in the order or during the design phase of thepump, it is absolutely necessary to make sure the motor is not overloaded.

For longer interruptions in operationlf, in the case of longer interrutpion, the concentrationmay change or the medium may crystallize, the pumpmust be drained and rinsed with a preservative liquid.

MaintenanceMaintenance of the complete pump unit is limited toregular inspection of the following points:- Does the pump reach the required capacity (flow rate/

head)?- Does the pump or the motor emit any unusual

noises or vibrations?- Is the motor heat normal?
