Marketopia is synonymous to consumerism where people are seen only as consumers.
According to Terrance Ball, professor of political theory at Arizona State University, marketopia is characterized by a massive violation of equity and justice and marketopians who can’t afford health care, education, police protection, and other of life’s necessities are denied a fair share of social goods

recognize that the present crisis represents a historical opportunity to refuse the commonsense assumption that democracy is synonymous with capitalism and critical citizenship is limited to being an unquestioning consumer.
Furthermore, Derrida states that “we must
do and think the impossible. If only the possible happened, nothing more would happen. If I only did what I can do, I wouldn’t do anything.”
Conclusion
It is clear that neoliberalism doesn’t foster equality of opportunity in education and in order to achieve equal opportunity we must challenge the notion of neoliberalism, marketopia and capitalism as it pertains to education. It is imperative that colleges, universities and students, join with community and social movements to form a platform that resists the corporatizing of schools.
