VE DAY 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS Friday 8th May 2020 will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Years of carnage and destruction had come to an end and millions of people took to the streets and pubs to celebrate peace, mourn their loved ones and to hope for the future. In conjunction with other community teams, the Moulton Festival Committee have joined the nationally lead movement to remember these historic events. We start with members of the Northamptonshire Cadet Forces sounding the Last Post, followed by Reveille on their silver bugles, from the top of the Parish Church at 14.55. The time that marks the official end of the war in Europe, and joining other military personnel sounding off the same at the top of the four highest Peaks in the United Kingdom, a feat never undertaken before. Then at 15.00 precisely from the tower, and participating pubs/clubs in the village, we will play the recording of the British Prime Minister of that time, Sir Winston Churchill, announcing that the war was over. Join us there by raising your glasses for the National Toast “For those who gave so much, we thank you”. Joining 1000’s over the UK doing the same at the exact same time. At 15.05 thousands of pipers around the world will then play Battle’s O’er, a traditional air performed on the bagpipes at the end of a battle, and the specially composed tune for VE 75. We will link with them by playing the tune on melodeons. Join us for this one off, and very special event. Finally, at 19.00 Moulton Church bells will ring out the “Ringing for Peace” in a collective celebration of peace across the UK. For more information see below websites, and we truly hope you will come and witness these once in a life-time events on this special public holiday within our fantastic village. www.veday75.org www.iwm.org.uk/history/what-you-need-to-know-about-ve- day Friday 8 th May 2020 – Doors open at 2.30pm, entertainment from 3.15pm – 6.00pm Fully Licensed Bar Free Bouncy Castle for Children Gallone’s Ice Cream COME AND CELEBRATE VE DAY WITH MOULTON PARISH COUNCIL AT MOULTON COMMUNITY CENTRE FOR A TEA DANCE & AFTERNOON TEA Come along and join in with the Moulton History Society talk at Moulton Club on May 8th 2020 - 7.30pm The speaker is Steve Allen - the talk is A Trip though the Industrial Revoluon - accompanied by Folk Song Open night – ALL WELCOME. MOULTON VILLAGE FESTIVAL 2020 CARNIVAL PARADE

2019 Moulton Village Festival was a massive success, embracing our ever-growing community and bringing a week of extra enjoyment to thousands.

One of the highlights that gained some fantastic feedback was the Carnival Parade, and in 2020 we want to make it bigger and better, but… we need your help to achieve this.

We are encouraging as many of you to start with us from Pound Lane from 1pm-1.30pm on Festival Saturday (Carnival Parade sets off at 2pm).

Here are the categories (go crazy!! anything goes, as long as it is in good(ish) taste):

1. Best dressed infant on foot (up to 7 years)2. Best dressed junior on foot (up to 15 years)3. Best dressed family group4. Best dressed buggy/wheelchair/wheelbarrow5. Best dressed/decorated vehicles and floats6. NEW for this year! Best Business float/entry

PLUS, due to the kind contribution of Moulton Parish Council, the prize for the BEST BUSINESS FLOAT/ENTRY in the parade is a full-page advert in the September 2020 edition of Moulton Scene, worth £350!

Anything goes - vans, cars that are dressed, lorries… just please, if you can, join us in our growing parade.

The theme this year is “VE Day Celebrations”, so we are looking for lots of flags and music along with very happy faces (but really, anything goes!)

We truly hope you will come and get involved, but if you’re not joining the Carnival Parade, please line the streets and behold the march pass of the May Queen, Morris Men, marching bands, tractors, floats and great people taking part in a great village festival.

For more information and ways to get involved please contact Mike [email protected].
