Some facts about Varaždin- Varaždin is a city in North Croatia- It has the population of almost
47,000 people- The centre of the city is near the
Drava river.- It’s known for its baroque
buildings, music, food etc.- In 1767 Varaždin was declared the
capital of Croatia, but after the big fire in 1776 the goverment was moved to Zagreb (current capital).
Varaždin Korzo
St Nicholas Church
-This church was built in the Middle Ages
- It is the main church in Varaždin
- It’s a Dominican church
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the B.V. Mary
- This cathedrale is the most visited cathedrals in Varaždin
- The famous Baroque Nights take place in there
National Croatian Theatre
- It was built in 1873 by an Austrian architect
- There are many plays and performances played there
- This is the Meteorology Post- Last autumn was the 100th year of its
existence- It shows: temperature, air presure, the
rose od wind, the time and humidity
- This is the Varaždin library
- It was built in the 18th century and has more than 2500 books
Royal HousesBetween 13th and 14th cetury in Croatia, there were some rich famillies that were famous all over the country. They left many marks such as their big and expensive houses and their income to Croatia. We can find some of that houses in Varaždin.

Dućanska ulica
- In the history of Varaždin, this street was always full of different shops and stores and that’s why it’s called The Shop Street (=Dućanska ulica, dućan=shop)
- There are still many stores just like before
Vatroslav Jagić’s Park
-This park is the biggest park in Varaždin and a lot of young people often come here and hang out
Varaždin Korzo
Varaždin Korzo is the main square in Varaždin
There is a city hall, Drašković palace, some shops and a few coffee bars
Grgur Ninski statue
Grgur Ninski was a bishop from a town called Nin
Children from everywhere rub his golden toe and make a wish, hoping that he will make their wish come true
