    The Vo Van Tho Memorial Scholarship The Department of Mathematics is proud to present the second annual Vo Van Tho Memorial Scholarship. Created in memory of Vo Van

    Tho, a Mathematics professor at Vanier College from 1982 to 2013, this scholarship recognizes two graduating students, one from

    Commerce and one from the Sciences, for demonstrating academic excellence in mathematics. For more information on the Scholarship,

    Technology and Science Day: May 2 Members of the Vanier community are invited to attend the first Technology and Science Day, which will be held on Thursday May 2nd in the 5th floor of the Learning Commons and the Vanier Auditorium. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The event will highlight the extent to which students across numerous programs in the Faculty of Science and Technology have developed an impressive array of skills. To see a schedule of the different activities, please visit the following link: Projects on display will range from innovative architectural and technological designs, to inventive solutions to automation problems, to in- depth explorations of mathematical and physical concepts, to high-level scientific research.   • Four Vanier athletes receive bursaries from the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec

    Vanier College is pleased to announce that four Vanier student athletes recently received bursaries from the Fondation de l’ahtlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) at a ceremony held on April 10, 2019. Joakim Généreux, Chloé Royce, Megan Duclos and Natael Lebrun-Cantin, were among 40 student-athletes who shared $140,000 in bursaries from the FAEQ and its partners. Three types of bursaries were awarded: Academic Excellence bursaries to reward outstanding scholastic achievement, Academic and Athletic Support bursaries to promote the successful balance of athletic and academic pursuits, and one Perseverance bursary to commend exemplary attitude in the face of difficult circumstances. Eighteen-year old track and field athlete, Joakim Généreux, received a $4000 FAEQ-Bruny Surin Foundation Academic and Athletic Support bursary. Joakim was a Gold Medalist in the 55m high school category, and a Bronze Medalist in the 60m university and open category at the Dartmouth Relays in New Hampshire. He placed 12th in the Youth Olympics and is a Canadian champion in the 18 and under category in the 200m. Joakim is studying in the Computer Science and Mathematics program and would like to work in information technology in the future.

    Eighteen-year old track and field athlete, Chloé Royce (photo left), received a $2000 FAEQ-Bruny Surin Foundation Academic Excellence bursary. Chloé is the Canadian Heptathlon Champion in both the under 20s and under 18- year olds. She is studying Health Science at Vanier and maintained an 87% average in the last semester. She is interested in working in physiotherapy for children. Seventeen-year old softball player Megan Duclos received a $4,000 Planète- Courrier-FAEQ bursary for Academic Excellence. Megan was selected from the Canadian junior team with a view to participating in the World Cup for the under 19-year olds. She was also chosen from the All-star team at the Canadian Championships for under 19-year olds. Megan is studying in Pure and Applied Science at Vanier and maintained an 82% average last semester. She would like to study engineering and is interested in physics,

    mathematics and the arts. Nineteen-year old wrestler (65kg) Natael Lebrun-Cantin received a $2,000 Planète-Courrier-FAEQ Academic and Athletic Support bursary. Natael placed 6th at the Canadian Junior Championships, and is a 2018 Canadian Junior Championships Bronze medalist in the 61kg category. Natael is studying in the Social Science Commerce Major in International Business. He would like to pursue his studies at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University and work in finance. Congratulations to these four outstanding students athletes!

    Referral Form: Early Alert Support

    The Early Alert Support referral form is available online for teachers to refer at-risk students to the Academic Success Advisor. Teachers are

    encouraged to fill out the online referral form as soon as it becomes noticeable that a student is likely to fail and requires support beyond

    help understanding course content.

    Referred students will be invited to meet with me, the Academic Success Advisor. Depending on a student’s situation, I will either work with

    them directly, or refer them to the relevant resource(s), and follow up to help ensure the student receives the necessary support.

    INFO SESSION for a French Course with a trip to Paris and Geneva in March 2020

    Find out more about the French course "Une planète en danger: le développement durable à la rescousse!", to be offered in Winter 2020. The course will include a 10 day trip to Paris (France) and Geneva (Switzerland) during March break 2020. This course is offered to all Vanier students who have completed their first French class (101 to 103 levels.) It's a multi-disciplinary course that will address various topics, including social, human and government issues.
