Alan Francis Vacks Sr., age 64, of Ft. Myers, passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2014. Born Aug. 3, 1950 to Beth Shamof and David

Vacks in Pittsburgh, PA. Alan graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1968 and served for USAF during the Vietnam

War as a firefighter. Alan earned the distinction as Master Firefighter for the City of Pittsburgh Fire Department until he

retired. He was passionate about the line of duty he chose working as instructor trainee as well as teaching numerous fire

firefighter courses across many areas. He also was a Certified BLS Instructor, AED Certified Instructor, and CPR Instructor

Trainer. During retirement, Alan continued public service as volunteer CERT Team Leader for Fort Meyers to train citizens on

how they can best survive disaster until emergency services arrive. He also enjoyed the Florida sunshine, building custom rods,

fishing on his boat, and leisurely breakfasts at Sunshine's with his best buddies. Alan is survived by three sons, Alan, Jr.,

Andrew, Joseph; and two grandchildren, Maia and Tristen. Burial with Honors will be in Section 5, Site 423 at Sarasota National

VAIL, Charles Edward Vail

Charles 'Chuck' Edward Vail, age 74, formerly of Toledo, Ohio passed away on June 22, 2015 at Tidewell Hospice. Chuck was

born Apr. 22, 1941. He was a natural jack of all trades, veteran of Air Force, and active in the Knights of Columbus, including

past Navigator and Grand Knight. Hobbies included fishing, drag racing, and the beach. He is survived by his wife, Ellen,

daughters Sherri (Bill) Davidson, Karen (Michael) Roland, step-daughters Ann (Jerry) Bogart, and Sara (David) Wilson; 10

grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Service will be at Toale Brothers Funeral Homes Gulf Gate Chapel, 6903 South

VALCHO, George Joseph Valcho

George Joseph Valcho, age 78, of Port Charlotte, FL, died Friday, June 14, 2013 after a long battle with kidney disease. George

was born to the late George and Margaret Valcho on June 2, 1935 in Homestead, PA. He served proudly in the United States

Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued his career with the FAA as an air traffic controller for 39 years,

retiring in 1994 from the Youngstown Municipal Airport. He earned his BA in Business Administration from Youngstown State

University. George was a member of the Slovak Fraternity Jednota for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener

and Pittsburgh Steeler fan. George was married to Josephine (Novak) for 54 years. They raised their family in Liberty

Township, Ohio before retiring to Florida. George is also survived by his four children, Margaret Ann Gaydos from Wadsworth,

OH, George (Allison) Valcho from Benton, LA, Jo Anne (Jeffrey) Mockbee from Bath, OH, and Matthew (Gaile) Valcho from

Parkland, FL. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, TJ, Megan, Mark, Joey, Matthew, Madi, Daniel, and Brady. George and

Josie are members of San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at San Pedro. In lieu of

Carmen Mary (“Nena”) Valenti, age 85, of Parrish, FL was called home by God on June 25, 2012. She was born Apr. 5, 1927,

raised, and lived most of her life in Tampa, FL. There she married, raised a family, retired from 25 years as a Social Worker for

the Hillsborough County Hospital and Welfare Board, and ran a small business. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister, and

spread her kindness and caring throughout the family. Her loved ones cherished the time they had with her. She was devoted to

her husband of 63 years, Thomas Charles Valenti (deceased) who was waiting to welcome her. Her family will miss her—

daughters Cheryl Ann Sawyer (Sydney), and Norma Jean Slocumb (Boe), grandsons Kevin Michael Sawyer and Trey Thomas

Slocumb, step-granddaughter Daphne C. Abrams, sister Mercedes Lopez (Ronald Alward), three step-great-grandchildren, and

Thomas Charles Valenti, age 86, of Parrish, FL, was called by God on Sept. 20, 2010. He was born Sept. 29, 1923 and raised in

Tampa, the last of 12 children. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in March, 1943 and served his country in World War II in the

Central Pacific, participating in the Iwo Jima Campaign. He was discharged in January, 1946 from the Marine Aviation Unit as a

Corporal- Aviation Temp and continued his commitment as a dedicated member of the Marine Corps League. The service taught

him aircraft mechanics. Employed as a manager by National Airlines and Pan American Airways for over 30 years, he led with

love. Tommy's great loves were his family, golf, and travelling. He will be missed greatly. Cherishing happy memories are wife of

63 years, Carmen; daughters, Cheryl Sawyer (Sydney), and Norma Jean Slocumb (Boe); grandsons, Kevin Michael Sawyer and

Trey Thomas Slocumb; step-granddaughter, Daphne Abrams; sister, Lilly Gatto; brother, Sammy Valenti; and sister-in-law,

VALERIO, Joselynn Valerio

Edin Palacios-Rodas, 27, an illegal alien from Guatemala, had already been deported once before in 2013, but he returned to the

US. In one night, his drunk driving killed an 18-year-old girl just returning home from her prom, and seriously injured her 18-

year-old prom date. Sunday evening, May 15, 2016, police saw Palacios-Rodas driving recklessly, speeding and going over

curbs. They tried to pull him over, he stopped, but took off again when the officer got out of the car. He led police on a high

speed chase, until he ran a red light and slammed into the passenger side of a Dodge Charger, occupied by a young couple just

returning home from their senior prom. Police say Joselynn Valerio, age 18, was killed instantly. Her boyfriend, Moises Aivar,

also 18, was critically injured and had to be cut out of the car, then transported to the hospital. Breitbart reports that

Palacios-Rodas only sustained minor injuries in the crash. He tried to run away from the scene after crawling out of his vehicle,

but was quickly caught by police and the wrecker drivers. He is being held in the Harris County Jail for murder and has an

immigration detainer placed on him.

VALLEE, Robert Paul Vallee

HTCM (SW) Robert Paul Vallee, age 65, of Jacksonville Beach, FL passed away on April 10, 2015 after a hard-fought battle with

cancer. Bob was an incredibly loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 46

years Helen M. Vallee, son Robert M. Vallee, daughter Paula M. Ackerman (Craig), four loving grandchildren Nicholas Vallee,

Michael Vallee, Hannah Ackerman, and Bryan Ackerman. He is also survived by his sisters Anastacia Cunningham, E. Jane Casey

and brother Lawrence Vallee. Predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Mary (Murray), sisters, Mary K. Sesselman, Patricia

Vallee and brothers John Vallee, James Vallee, and Matthew Vallee. Bob was born Jan. 4, 1950 in Troy, NY, where he lived until

joining the U S Navy in 1969. Master Chief Vallee served his country for over 31 years in the US Navy. He served with

distinction on six ships, making 19 deployments, and received many commendations for his dedication and bravery. In-between

his shipboard tours, Bob served as a Navy Instructor in San Diego and Mayport, FL and had a successful Navy Recruiter tour in

New Jersey. He served in many of the conflicts over those 31 years, in Vietnam, Kosovo, Southwest Asia and the Middle East.

After leaving active duty, Master Chief Vallee remained vital in serving our country, becoming a defense contractor developing

training products to keep the fleet manned with well-trained Sailors. Master Chief was an active member of the VFW, American

Legion, DAV, and the Fleet Reserve. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends, shipmates

and family will attest. Besides his obvious pride in his family, he was most proud of the Junior Officers and new Chief Petty

Officers he helped mold and train to be his eventual relief, in keeping with the best traditions of a Navy Chief, Master Chief

Vallee has stood his watch with honor, courage and a commitment to his family and friends to stay as long as he could. His

Watch has been relieved, he will be dearly missed and his integrity, courage, humor, humility, and generosity will always be

remembered. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Paul s Catholic Church, 435 1st Ave. N., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250,

VAN ANTWERPEN, Paul Martin van Antwerpen

Paul Martin van Antwerpen, age 96, of Sarasota and Ludlow, VT, formerly of Milwaukee and Chicago, died peacefully at home on

November 15, 2009. A memorial Service will be at Church of the Palms in Sarasota. A private military service will be in Section

13, Site 72 at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Toale Brothers Funeral Home. Survivors

include his loving wife of 22 years, Margarete; daughter Susan van Antwerpen (Ray Gincavage) of Branford, CT; son Peter

(Pamela) of Weston, FL; step-son Brian Parys (Diane) of Milwaukee; step-daughters Cheryl Trimboli (Jerome) of Garden City,

NY, Lynn Gross of Oak Creek, WI, and Dawn Steiner (John) of North Augusta, SC. Paul is also survived by a brother, Lloyd of

Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces. Born Jan. 7, 1913 in Milwaukee, WI, to Martin

and Mayme van Antwerpen. Paul attended St. John's Military Academy and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1935 and

Harvard Business School in 1937. He worked in the advertising business in Milwaukee until December 1941, when he joined the

Navy. Commissioned in October 1941, and trained as a Gunnery Officer, Paul served in both European and Pacific theatres,

ultimately reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After the war, Paul was a successful business executive in Milwaukee

and Chicago. He and his brother, Lloyd, started and managed several companies in the paper and packaging business including the

Vanant Company and SealPac Inc. Paul also owned John Rudin and Company, the Chicago firm which published the "Book of Life"

Bible study series. He later sold the Rudin Company to Zondervan Publishing. An avid sportsman, Paul was particularly active in

car racing and skiing, both as a participant and supporter. He was a competitive driver on the sports car racing circuit in the

1950's and was Race Chairman of the Wisconsin Grand Prix in 1955. He was also President of the Businessmen's Committee to

support the US SKI Team in 1967. In 1987 Paul moved to Sarasota where he and Margarete have since lived, along with

summering in Ludlow, VT. He was a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, the New College

Foundation, and the Salvation Army among many other local community groups. Paul was also a member of the Field Club, the

Dartmouth Club, and the Ivy League Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Paul may be made to Tidewell Hospice at 5955

VAN BECK, Robert Louis Van Beck

Robert Louis Van Beck was born 01/23/1922, died 02/26/2011, age 89, Robert was born in Kalamazoo, MI. He was the son of

Louis and Bertha Van Beck. Robert went home to be with the Lord with his family by his side in Jacksonville, FL. Robert

attended school and graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1941. He went on to make a career in the United States Marine Corps

entering in Parris Island, SC on December 1, 1941. Mr. Van Beck served his country proudly for over 30 years of dedicated

service serving in WWII The Pacific Theater, The Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired as a E-9 and was highly

decorated. Robert was a true patriot, he raised a daughter and three sons and two of his boys followed his footsteps into the

Marine Corps. He and his 2nd son served together in the Vietnam War and was able to see each other every day. There was no

price too big to pay for Roberts country he called his recruiter during the Gulf War and asked to be re-enlisted so he could do a

desk job here to free someone else up to go out and carry a rifle during the Gulf Crisis, he truly stood for the red the white

and the blue. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James Van Beck; sister, Norma Shelterly; son, Michael

Robert Van Beck in 2001; and his daughter, Marilynn Sue McNeely in 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years,

Suzanne Dobson Van Beck; two sons, Marvin L. Van Beck (Kathy), and Malcom J. Van Beck; seven grandchildren, April C. Lewis,

Walter H. Lewis, Esta Manso, Patrick L. Van Beck, Courtney Stuhlmiller, Clayton Van Beck and Robert L. Mahan, and many other

loving family members. Inurnment services of Robert's remains will be in Section 7, Site 208 in the Jacksonville National

State College in Oklahoma City and from Oklahoma University School of Medicine. He was a member and officer of Venice-

Nokomis United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; daughters Pattye Van Buren-Craig of Howell, MI,

Mariah Wozniak of Nokomis and Leah Bolton of Krefeld, Germany; a son, William Jr. of Ypsilanti, MI; and nine grandchildren. A

Jerry Alan Van Deusen, age 63, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He was born on July 20, 1945 in Spokane, WA to

parents, Frank and Vergie Van Deusen. Mr. Van Deusen served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy.

He was a wonderful handyman and home repair person. He had enjoyed CB Radio, fishing, hunting, shrimping and square dancing

and ballroom dancing. He was involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry and was a member of the International Union of Operating

Engineers, the VFW and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2020. Mr. Van Deusen will be dearly missed by his loving family and

friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan Van Deusen. Survivors include his daughters, Julie (Ed)

Sander and April (Jeff) Pannone; brother, John Folmer; grandchildren, Zachary Alan Pannone and Annalise Joy Pannone and

Gary Van Duzer passed away on Sept. 27, 2006. Gary was born Dec. 10, 1947. He was survived by his wife Carol, children;

Rebecca, Gretchen, Megan and Gary Thomas; by 5 sisters, 2 brothers and 3 beloved grandchildren. Gary was doing what he loved

most riding his Harley which was the second most important thing in his life after his Family and Friends. Dad or Garr as he was

known to most as was a free spirit, a person who gave his time to fix anything whether mechanical or physical. Gary touched so

Mr. Charles Francis Van Gundy, age 82, has now graduated to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2007. Mr. Van Gundy was

born Aug.6, 1924 and a native of Toledo, Ohio and had resided in Jacksonville since 1932. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy -

WW II. Mr. Van Gundy retired in 1989 as an Electrician with the I.B.E.W. # 177. He was active with the Boy Scouts and worked

his way through the ranks and attained the position of Regional Commander. Mr. Van Gundy was an active member of Oceanway

Assembly of God and was a member of the Prime Timers Group. Through the church, he participated in many mission trips,

continued his support to Missions and assisted in various duties. Survivors include his 4 children: Kathi Van Gundy Beck, Kenneth

(Sandra) Van Gundy, Edward (Linda) Van Gundy and Mary Van Gundy (Terry Starry); 1 sister: Eloise (Bob) Fooshee; 1 brother:

Albert Joseph Van Horn, Sr., died on Wednesday, December 31, 2003. He was born in Oakhurst, FL on January 15, 1923 and

spent most of his childhood in Lakeland, FL, where he met his wife, Nita Van Horn (Crews). He served in the Army during World

War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked for the Postal Service for over 30 years, beginning as mail clerk and

progressing to supervisor at the King Street Operations Center. An early retirement allowed him to spend the end of his life

Evelyn Juanita "Nita" (Crews) Van Horn, age 82, passed away on September 13, 2009, at her home in Jacksonville with her loving

family beside her. Nita was born in Tampa, Florida on July 10, 1927, to her parents Ernest Edgar Crews and Nancy Lorene

(McLeod) Crews. She grew up in Lakeland, FL, where she met her husband, Albert Joseph Van Horn Sr. They were married on

October 29, 1945. They moved to Orange Park, FL, in the late 1940's when he was transferred to the area for his job as a

railway mail clerk. Shortly thereafter, they bought a home in the Southside area where they would settle. Nita was a

homemaker for the 58 years that they were married. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren. She had much

talent in cooking and sewing. Memories of her great meals and loving creations will last through the years. She was predeceased

by her husband, A. J. Van Horn in 2003; and her brothers Harvey Crews and Cecil Crews. Nita is survived by her three children:

Lorraine Deley (Gerald) of Jacksonville, Deborah Van Horn-Tschannen (Pat) of Neptune Beach, and Joe Van Horn (Lyndean) of

Capt. David Van Saun (US Navy Ret.) passed away peacefully on November 17, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born

in Hackensack, NJ on November 17, 1945, raised in Long Beach, CA and graduated from UCLA. He married the love of his life

Doris on June 25, 1983 in San Diego, CA. David proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1968-1998. He was a highly

decorated career USN Surface Warfare Officer who served in Vietnam and on many other naval ships and also Commanding

Officer at the Mayport Naval Station. After retirement, Capt. Van Saun served as Joint Cross-Service Team Leader for the

2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission. He also was a member of the Navy League, serving as President of the

Mayport Chapter and National Director. He enjoyed hiking, was a Republican and a pro-life advocate. Family members include his

wife of 30 years, Doris Carter Pace Van Saun; sons, Christopher A. Pace (Sarah), Brian S. Pace (Angelique) and Michael Van

Saun; daughter, Deborah Van Saun; brother, Walter Bud Van Saun (Dores); special niece, Linda Van Smaalen; sister-in-law,

Albert Bachus "Van" Van Vlaenderen, age 93, of Venice, FL, formerly of Saginaw, MI passed away peacefully Saturday, August

11, 2012 at his home in Venice. Van was born May 24, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY and moved shortly thereafter to Paterson, NJ. After

completing school he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps where he worked in the forestry and as Chief cook. He was

discharged in 1940, with Honors, to enlist in the United States Army. He served as an enlisted man until 1943 rising to the rank

of Sergeant when he was selected to attend Officers Candidate School. After being discharged from the enlisted services and

given a Commission as a Lieutenant he was sent to Fort Benning, GA to attend jump school and glider training. During this period

he met and courted Joan Weisenberger who was serving as an Officer in The Army Nurse Corps at Camp Ellis, IL. On November

6, 1943 in Chicago, IL he married the love of his life and lifelong partner. Shortly thereafter Van was designated for

assignment overseas with the Army Corps of Engineers as a Combat Engineer in the CBI (China-Burma-India) Zone of the Pacific

Theater of Operations. He served with distinction with this unit which was instrumental in building what is now famous as the

"Burma Road". In October 1945 Van was discharged from active duty and returned to his wife's home of record in Chesaning,

MI. Van, his wife Joan, and their infant daughter moved to Saginaw, MI where he worked in newspaper advertising for the

Saginaw News. Many of his account urged a smart young man like him to strike out on his own and after securing a small loan

from a local bank Van started an Interior Design Business which he named "The Fabric Room." After many successful years,

which included serving as President of the American Society of Interior Designers, Van started a new venture opening The

Carriage House Interiors, a large home furnishing and interior design firm. During these years as a self-made businessman in

Saginaw. Van was active in many Service Clubs and organizations including the Elks, The Serra Club, The Lions Club, The Knights

of Columbus, The Boy Scouts of America and Saint Stephen Catholic Church. He also served as a member of the Board of the

Saginaw Museum and was a member of the Saginaw Country Club. An avid skier, he could often be found in the evenings working

as a volunteer ski patrolman at the local ski venue. Van's hobbies and interests were endless. He loved hunting and fishing and

would often leave in the middle of the night for a quick trip up to the AuSable River for some fly fishing. He enjoyed working on

and tinkering with most anything electrical or mechanical, music, opera and theatre where he belonged to the local "Pit and

Balcony" Playhouse and loved dancing with his bride. However, to Van, family always came first. In 1983 he and his wife Joan

retired to Venice, FL where they fulfilled a 20 some year dream to retire on the water in Florida. He enjoyed an active and long

retirement. An avid golfer he could often be found on the links or at one of the local driving ranges practicing or giving

instruction to a youngster he thought needed it! He belonged to both the Waterford and Mission Valley Country Clubs, and

continued his love of boating and of the theater as a member of the Venice (Little) Theater. Van is survived by his loving wife of

68 years, Joan, daughter Diane Kretschmer of Sequim, WA, son Jan (Diane McDonald) Van Vlaenderen of Mill Valley, CA, son

Randall (Karin Otterstrom) Van Vlaenderen of Sarasota, FL, and daughter Sandra (Stephen) Burdick of Sequim, WA. He was the

loving grandfather of six grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Kretschmer, Jena (Van Vlaenderen) DuPont, Adam Van Vlaenderen

and Andrew and Jordan Burdick, as well as five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Davis, and Cal Kretschmer and Lilian and Vada

DuPont. A Funeral Mass will be held at Epiphany Cathedral with inurnment in Section 6, Site 1165 at Sarasota National Cemetery

Addison Van Wagner, known as Van, of Venice, formerly of Miami and Hyde Park, NY, died Feb. 2, 2015, at Village on the Isle.

Burial will be in Section 12, Site 102 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Van was the devoted husband of Eleanor Shonter Van

Wagner for 65 years (deceased 2008). Survivors include their six children: James (Margaret Edison), John (Rebecca Bender),

Janice Norris, Joyce Peek (Tom), Julia Sherman (John), Jeanne Zimmermann (Keith); his sister, Ethelyn Blass of Hyde Park, 10

grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a beloved grandson,

Clayton Bender Van Wagner. Van was born Dec. 6, 1920 in Hyde Park, a descendant of the De Groff and Stoutenberg families.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, stationed on the NY docks. He fell in love with Navy WAVE Eleanor Shonter. They

married in 1943, and after the war moved to Miami, FL. They both attended the University of Miami on the GI bill, graduating in

1951, while raising their young family. Van worked 25 years for Aerodex, Inc., an aircraft engine overhaul facility. He began as a

stock clerk in the warehouse, worked his way up to purchasing agent, and finally planner for government contracts. He then

worked 7 years for Neff Machinery in Parts and Accounts Departments. Van kept his family entertained with his extraordinary

harmonica playing, colorful stories of his boyhood in Hyde Park, and his wonderfully droll sense of humor. He was an avid bicycle

rider around Venice. Van had a huge heart and kept an open door to his extended family, who adored him. Van and Eleanor

traveled extensively upon retirement and also took annual vacations in Blairsville, GA, with extended family. They moved to

Venice in 1990, living in Golden Beach. Van moved to Village on the Isle after Eleanor's death, and remained very active in that

cherished grandson, Clayton Bender Van Wagner. One of eight children of Cloyd and Elizabeth Shonter, Eleanor was born July

29, 1922 in Cumberland, MD, and moved to Miami as a child. A graduate of Miami Senior High School, she joined the U.S. Navy

WAVES in 1942 and was stationed at Roosevelt Field, Mineola, NY, where she met her future husband. After Naval service, she

graduated from the University of Miami and taught at Royal Palm and Colonial Drive Elementary Schools in Miami for 24 years.

Eleanor was a parishioner of Epiphany Cathedral, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Council of Catholic Women, American

Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and Golden Beach Association. She was an avid bridge player, a

fine cook, an active traveler and hiker, and she especially enjoyed annual family reunions in the north Georgia mountains, which

have been held for more than 50 years. She was a much beloved family matriarch whose recipes, traditions, and loving guidance

VAN WAGNER, James Harland Van Wagner

James Harland Van Wagner, 83 of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 after a short illness. He was born

February 5, 1926 to Harvey and Bertha Van Wagner in Lake Worth, FL. Jim enlisted in the Navy on his 17th birthday and served

in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters aboard the USS Forster, USS ISM 448 and USS Holder DD819 during WWII. Jim

reached the rank of Quartermaster second class. After separation from the Navy he attended the University of Maryland on

the GI bill and received his BS degree in Engineering. He went to California to seek his fortune where he heard the grass was

greener. Jim worked for the Cities of Pomona, Riverside and Whittier as their manager of their municipal water departments

during the insuring years. In the 70's, he spent two years in the Philippines working for their government setting up municipal

water districts in Mindaneo. He retired in 1987 from the Valley County Water District in Baldwin Park, CA. Deciding it was time

to return to his roots he returned to Florida taking up residency in Punta Gorda in 1994 and enjoying traveling by car all over

the US, Canada and trips to the Orient as well enjoying his traveling on his boats. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Elks

Club. Jim will be greatly missed by his dear friend and companion, Sherri Schmid; nephew, Stephen Van Wagner of

David VanBuskirk, 36, a native Nevadan, passed away July 23, 2013. He was employed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police

Department and embodied every sense of the word hero. David was preceded in death by his father, Red; and brother, Michael.

David is survived by his loving wife, of 11 years, Adriana; his mother, Pat; sister, Jenny; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces

and nephews. David was employed by Metro since 1999 and joined the elite SAR Team in 2007. Within the Search and Rescue

Team, David provided support as a Mountain Rescue Team Leader, Tactical Emergency Medical Support Coordinator, Helicopter

Crew Chief and Tactical Medic for LVMPD SWAT. He saved many lives and took pride in being able to do so. He loved his family

and friends immensely. He had a fabulous sense of humor and showed love to everyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew

and loved him. David will always be remembered as a man of integrity, honesty and great courage. His life cannot be summed up

in a few lines, but will be forever missed by family and friends. David leaves many great memories to a family that loved him

dearly. He was the epitome of what a true husband, son, uncle and brother should be. Not a day will go by that we will not miss

his sense of humor and penchant for inserting a quick-witted comment at just the right moment. It is these memories of him

that we will cherish until we join him. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Monday, July 29, with services following, both at both

Byron Marshall Vance, age 70, of Lake Park, GA passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 10, 2016. He was born on

August 20, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to the late R. Barr Vance and Catherine B. Vance. Mr. Vance served as a volunteer lifeguard

at Jacksonville Beach and received a letter of accolade from President Richard Nixon for saving a life. He served in the U. S.

Army Special Forces, was a Vietnam veteran and retired as a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army Reserves. Mr. Vance was a

retired law enforcement correctional officer with the state of Florida. He was an actor in the Theatre Guild Valdosta and

volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Vance is survived by his wife, Nancy Redfern-Vance; daughter, A. Paige Vance Rogers

(Terry); two stepsons, Patrick Redfern (Jennifer) and William Redfern, III (Laura); eight grandchildren, Miles Rogers, Collier

Rogers, Hunter Redfern, Connor Redfern, Jennifer Redfern, Peggy Redfern, Taryn Hoadley, and Morgan Hoadley; mother-in-law,

Jeanne Lange, and a sister, Mary Winklejohn (Steve). Mr. Vance's memorial service will take place at the American Red Cross

Charles Jefferson Vance, Jr., age 88, a life-long resident of Jacksonville, FL, peacefully passed away into God's eternal care

surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 8, 2012. He was born on May 6, 1924, a son to Charles J. Vance, Sr. and May

(Butler) Vance. Charles graduated from Robert E. Lee High School on June 5, 1942, and he then enlisted for service in the U.S.

Navy for World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre as a Radioman 3rd Class, SV 6, on PT Boat 473 in the Mosquito

Squadron (RON 31). He was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946 and married Nelda Eugenia Putnal on November 22,

1947. After leaving the Navy, Charles joined his father at the Seaboard Railroad where he worked for 41 years. Charles is

survived by his beloved wife, Nelda; his one and only son, Charles J. Vance III and wife Linda and their two sons, David and his

wife Anna and Jason; his sister, June Castator and husband Donald; and his niece Nancy Mehner and nephew Vance Castator and

Michael Fouts ”Mike” Vance was born Aug. 28, 1929 in Greenville, OH to Virginia and Ralph Vance. Mike died Sept. 6, 2013. When

Mike was 12, the family moved to Hamilton, OH, where he created and hosted a radio show on WMOH called "Teen Talk". Mike

initially attended Ohio Wesleyan University, and became a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. During this time, Mike

joined the 37th Division of the Ohio National Guard. In 1951 Mike was ordered to Korea, where he served on the front lines and

was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge. While there, Mike helped start an orphanage for the hundreds of displaced

children. When Mike returned from the war, he became a youth minister at the First Community Church of Columbus, Ohio,

while continuing his education at Ohio State University. After graduating, Mike accepted the position of youth minister at the

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles and in 1959 moved to California. While in Los Angeles, Mike created and hosted the

T.V. show, "Men at the Top". He was then hired by Walt Disney, where he eventually became the Dean of Disney University.

After Walt Disney died in 1966, Mike started speaking across the nation on Creative Thinking. He was named by "USA TODAY"

as one of the five most requested speakers in the country. Mike spoke to and consulted with hundreds of corporations, most

notably working with Steve Jobs from the beginning of Apple Computer, where Mike helped create the Apple company culture -

"Apple Values". In 1990, Mike and his business partner, Diane Deacon, started the "Creative Thinking Association of America".

Together they wrote five books, including the popular "Think Out of the Box". In 1992, his picture and biography were included

in the book authored by Val J. Halamandaris, "Faces of Caring, A Search for the 100 Most Caring People in History". On

Wednesday, September 18, 2013 there was a private burial for Mike Vance with full Military Honors in Section 7, Site 997 at

the Sarasota National Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Heron Club of Prestancia, Sarasota

Memorial Hospital and Tidewell Hospice, for all the loving care they gave Mike over the years. Survivors in Sarasota, son Mark

joining the Navy in May 1983. Retiring as a decorated war veteran, his service continued in his community with various bike runs

VANKIRK, Theodore VanKirk

ATLANTA — The last surviving member of the crew that dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, hastening the end of World

War II and forcing the world into the atomic age, has died in Georgia. Theodore VanKirk, also known as "Dutch," died Monday,

July 28, 2014 of natural causes at the retirement home where he lived in Stone Mountain, Georgia, his son Tom VanKirk said. He

was 93. VanKirk flew nearly 60 bombing missions, but it was a single mission in the Pacific that secured him a place in history. He

was 24 years old when he served as navigator on the Enola Gay, the B-29 Superfortress that dropped the first atomic bomb

deployed in wartime over the Japanese city of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. He was teamed with pilot Paul Tibbets and bombardier

Tom Ferebee in Tibbets' fledgling 509th Composite Bomb Group for Special Mission No. 13. The mission went perfectly, VanKirk

told The Associated Press in a 2005 interview. He guided the bomber through the night sky, just 15 seconds behind schedule,

he said. As the 9,000-pound bomb nicknamed "Little Boy" fell toward the sleeping city, he and his crewmates hoped to escape

with their lives. They didn't know whether the bomb would actually work and, if it did, whether its shockwaves would rip their

plane to shreds. They counted — one thousand one, one thousand two — reaching the 43 seconds they'd been told it would take

for detonation and heard nothing. "I think everybody in the plane concluded it was a dud. It seemed a lot longer than 43

seconds," VanKirk recalled. Then came a bright flash. Then a shockwave. Then another shockwave. The blast and its

aftereffects killed 140,000 in Hiroshima. Three days after Hiroshima, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The

blast and its aftermath claimed 80,000 lives. Six days after the Nagasaki bombing, Japan surrendered. Whether the United

States should have used the atomic bomb has been debated endlessly. VanKirk told the AP he thought it was necessary because

it shortened the war and eliminated the need for an Allied land invasion that could have cost more lives on both sides. "I

honestly believe the use of the atomic bomb saved lives in the long run. There were a lot of lives saved. Most of the lives saved

were Japanese," VanKirk said. But it also made him wary of war. "The whole World War II experience shows that wars don't

settle anything. And atomic weapons don't settle anything," he said. "I personally think there shouldn't be any atomic bombs in

the world — I'd like to see them all abolished. "But if anyone has one," he added, "I want to have one more than my enemy."

VanKirk stayed on with the military for a year after the war ended. Then he went to school, earned degrees in chemical

engineering and signed on with DuPont, where he stayed until he retired in 1985. He later moved from California to the Atlanta

area to be near his daughter. Like many World War II veterans, VanKirk didn't talk much about his service until much later in

his life when he spoke to school groups, his son said. "I didn't even find out that he was on that mission until I was 10 years old

and read some old news clippings in my grandmother's attic," Tom VanKirk told the AP in a phone interview Tuesday. Instead, he

and his three siblings treasured a wonderful father, who was a great mentor and remained active and "sharp as a tack" until the

end of his life. "I know he was recognized as a war hero, but we just knew him as a great father," Tom VanKirk said. VanKirk's

military career was chronicled in a 2012 book, "My True Course," by Suzanne Dietz. VanKirk was energetic, very bright and had a

terrific sense of humor, Dietz recalled Tuesday. Interviewing VanKirk for the book, she said, "was like sitting with your father

at the kitchen table listening to him tell stories." A funeral service was scheduled for VanKirk on Aug. 5 in his hometown of

Northumberland, Pennsylvania. He will be buried in Northumberland next to his wife, who died in 1975. The burial will be private.

Lembit was also an Army Veteran having served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by his four siblings,

competitive breaststroke swimmer. While in Vietnam, she was employed as the Administrative Manager of the State

Department Aid to International Development. She moved to the United States in 1969, and she spent her entire career with

Aetna Insurance Company, until her retirement in 1996. Melanie was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, who

devoted her life to her family. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Constantine Varelas, son, Peter Varelas (Dana) of

Middleburg, daughter, Nicole Varelas Ninesling (Olin Cannon) of Jacksonville, three grandsons (Dino Varelas, Hayden Ninesling,

and Blake Ninesling), who were the center of her world, two brothers, Troung Thi Houng of Saigon, and Tran Nam of Garland,

TX, and an extended family, who loved her very much. She will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Frank (Jennifer) Varnado III of Jacksonville. He will forever be missed by his six granddaughters; Brittany, Emma, Rebekah,

Syosset, Long Island; El Paso, TX; and has resided in Jacksonville, FL since 1969. She graduated from Terry Parker High School

and FCCJ College of Medical Technology, and was currently a district manager for MidAmerica Properties. She was the dearest

wife to Michael Alexander Vasiloff, a loving mother to her children; Lisa Newkirk (Brett), Elena Gilmore (Curtis), Krista Wick

(Daniel), and a grandmother to the joy of her life, her granddaughter, Riley Ann Newkirk. Her journey is also celebrated by her

mother, Joanne Liberty-Hoge; step-father, Fred Hoge; brother, William Quint; sisters, Jean Marie Depoli, whose kidney gave

Tricia new life, Julie Alen and Sandra Rodgers; also many nieces and nephews whom she inspired. There is no one to replace this

gracious, talented and godly woman. She leaves a legacy of courage and hope. Our family is most grateful to the compassionate

James Martin Vavrina, age 57, of Sun City Center, FL, died on Feb. 20, 2009, at Tampa General Hospital. Jim was born Dec. 11,

1951 and is survived by his wife, Brenda; mother-in-law, Barbara Bullard; step-daughter and her husband, Heather and Tom

Clary; sister, Marilyn Zabinski; son, Timothy; daughter, Stephanie; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Jim received

an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army and retired from the Department of Defense as a Computer Network Security

Specialist. After 9/11, he worked around the clock, and was responsible for getting the computers up and running in the

Pentagon. In May 2007, Jim and his wife moved to Sun City Center, where he served as president of the Amateur Radio Club

and was on the board of directors for the Arbor Glen Homeowners Who's Who Worldwide in the 1992/93 platinum edition of

the Who's Who registry. He will be remembered as a brave sweet soul with a generous heart who loved life. The memorial

service will take place at the Sun City Center Funeral Home. The interment will be in Section 12, Site 475 at the Sarasota

National Cemetery with military honors.

up in Long Island, NY and Douglas, GA. She was one of the Greatest Generation as a WWII war time bride to Ernest Albert

Veale, Jr., loving and caring for him for more than 69 years of marriage. Together they raised seven children with 8

grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Before settling in Jacksonville, they lived in Denville, NJ; Jupiter, FL; Charleston, SC;

New Orleans, LA; Lakeland, FL; Vero Beach, FL and Ocala, FL. Alice was a loving and caring wife to her husband, a wonderful

mother to her children, and was an ideal example of a good, kind, and compassionate soul. She is mourned by a large family

including her children Ernest, Nancy, Lori, Patrick, Paul, and her brother John Daly. She is preceded in passing by husband

and fought in the battles of Normandy, France, Black Forest, Rhine Crossing, and the Bulge. Veale made his career in

aeronautics beginning at Reaction Motors, a division of Thiokol, in Denville, NJ which developed rocket engines for the X-15. He

later worked at Pratt & Whitney in Palm Beach, FL; Avco Lycoming in Charleston, SC; Bell Aerospace in New Orleans, LA; and

Piper Aircraft in Lakeland and Vero Beach, FL, all manufacturers of turbofan jet engines and pressurized light aircraft. Ernie is

survived by his wife of 69 years, Alice Elizabeth Daly Veale. Together, they raised 7 children, Ernest, John, Nancy, Lori, David,

Patrick, and Paul. Grandchildren include Eric, Becky, Adam, Alex, Cara, Cameron, Suzanne, Mackenzie and great grandchild,

VEES, Calvin Adolph Vees

The world lost a beautiful smile on August 20, 2019, when our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather,

Calvin Adolph Vees, was called home to God after a brief but valiant fight with lung cancer. Papa Calvin, as he was known by

many, was born on December 11, 1931, in Hackensack, NJ, to Adolph and Anna Vees. From high school, he entered the U.S. Navy,

where he served in Operation Blue Jay during his time aboard the USS Deuel and earned the National Defense Service Medal

and the Navy Occupation Service Medal before he was honorably discharged on December 20, 1955. Calvin was working for

Bellow’s TV and Appliances in Orlando, Florida, when fate led him to a blind date with Eleanor Tanner. Ellie had waited her whole

life for a knight on a white horse, and Calvin was just that. They married September 12, 1980, and were inseparable for 39

years. Strangers often commented on the way that Calvin tended to Ellie and how he made sure her every need and wish was

fulfilled. They made it look easy. Calvin retired from his post as President and COO of Jacksonville’s Transcor, Inc. and the

military transportation support industry in 2004 after 24 years. He and Ellie were able to travel the world together, but he was

also happy to be at home doting on Ellie and the little dogs they adored, Bonnie and Caroline, out for a meal that would surely

end with ice cream, or with their Sunday School classmates from Deermeadows Baptist Church. Between the two of them, Calvin

and Ellie created an expansive family, and yet he made sure every member felt important and loved. He was there for births and

birthdays, recitals and graduations, Christmases and Easters, with seemingly boundless energy and interest. He is survived by

his wife, Ellie; sons, Gregory A. and Paul R. Vees (Lisa); and stepdaughters, Johnnie Breed and Nancy Slater (Jim). He leaves 12

grandchildren: Michael and Terry Cordell (Lori), Allison Slater Tate (Trey), Scott Slater (Stacy), Christin Couick (Noah), Kayla

Dawkins (Tony), Paul R. Vees, Jr. (Morgan), and Brandon, Cortnie, and Bailey Vees, Kaitlyn Siddons (Trae), and Gregory A. Vees,

Jr. He will also be remembered with love by his many great-grandchildren: Izzac and Casey Cordell, Morgan, Gabriel, Addison,

and Ellie Jane Slater, Mason, Charlie, Ben, and Lucy Tate, Kendall Vees, Anthony and Kian Dawkins, Eliana Couick, and Hallie

Vees. How lucky we were to have a Papa Calvin who never made us feel like a burden or an imposition and was always proud of us,

Roger L. Veilleux, age 88, of Sarasota, passed away on January 1, 2015. Born Dec. 30, 1926 in Saint-Georges deBeauce, Quebec,

Canada, he moved to the area from Lewiston, ME in 1992. He was the owner of Roger's Awning Co. in Newington, CT from 1966-

1987. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and VFW Post # 3233.

He is survived by his wife, Aurela; two daughters, Jane V. Blanchard (Dennis) and Doris V. Rosa; three grandchildren and one

great grandson. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements. A Funeral Mass will be at

LORAIN – Kenneth "Kenny V." Velez, age 48 of Lorain, passed away from injuries sustained in an accident on Thursday,

September 15, 2016 in the line of duty. He was born on August 23, 1968 in Lorain, to Benjamin and Ana (née Ocasio) Velez of

Lorain. Also surviving are sons Devin Alexander Velez of South Korea, Christian Lorenzo Velez of Lorain and daughter Andria

Elise Velez of Lorain; brothers David (Diane) Velez of Avon Lake, Benjamin Velez Jr. of Lorain, and sister Ivette Velez-Carreon

of Lorain; nieces Jacqueline Rodriguez and Amanda Velez; nephews David S. Velez and Brendin Velez-Rios: great nephews Elijah

Rodriguez and Jayden Miller and great niece Mia Rios. An avid sports fan, Kenny enjoyed volunteer coaching for his sons'

baseball teams and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Indians. He was a

member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Kenny has been with the Ohio State Highway Patrol since 1988 and graduated

November 11, 1989 from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. Kenny began working as a State Trooper in 1989 at the

Canfield patrol post. He then transferred to the Elyria patrol post, where he spent the majority of his career. Kenny spent the

end of his career at the Seville patrol post, then moved to the Cleveland patrol post. The family of Kenneth Velez sincerely

appreciates all the love and support of the community and the Ohio State Highway Patrol family. He is loved and will be missed

by all who knew him. His family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21 in Ewing Activity Center at Lorain County

Community College, 1005 North Abbe Rd, Elyria. His funeral service will be there Thursday. Burial with honors will follow in

Vincent Landis Verdegem Sr., age 77, of Christiana, entered into rest on March 3, 2012 in Sarasota, FL. He was born Feb. 21,

1935 and was the husband of Lena Phipps Verdegem. Vince was the son of the late Vincent and Grace (Landis) Verdegem.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice, and a grandson, Matthew. In addition to his wife, he is

survived by two sons, Vincent Jr., husband of Sue (Umble), Denver, William, husband of Michelle (McGinnis), New Providence,

and one daughter, Theresa Verdegem, Christiana. Also surviving are a sister, Dawn Jones, Parkesburg, five grandchildren, three

step-grandchildren and one great grandchild. A retired Lukens Steel Company employee of 32 years, he also worked 18 years as

Maintenance Supervisor for the Coatesville School District. He attended Gap Community Church, and Faith Presbyterian Church,

Sarasota. An accomplished guitarist and musician, Vince played on the worship team of Victory Chapel, Atglen for many years, in

small groups and solo for anyone who enjoyed listening. An avid fisherman, scuba diver and sailor, Vince was also a member of

Hances Point Yacht Club, North East, MD. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW and The American Legion. Vince served

our country as a Sergeant in the USMC during the Korean War and is laid to rest in Section 7, Site 296 in the Sarasota

National Cemetery.

VERKLER, Richard S. Verkler

LAKELAND - Richard Samuel Verkler, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Aug. 30, 2014, from complications due to

heart disease. Born Dec. 9, 1922, in Mt. Clemens, MI, to the late Guy and Mabel Verkler, Richard 'Dick' was the youngest of 3

children. His brother Robert Verkler of Ft. Myers, FL, and sister Ruth Robinson of Linwood, NJ, have preceded him in death.

Upon completion of ROTC training at Michigan State University, Dick joined the service and was awarded the rank of 1st

Lieutenant in the Army during WWII, serving in Japan and Korea in the 80th Field Artillery Battalion. Upon his honorable

discharge, he returned to Michigan State, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1947. Dick worked for a lumber

company near Portland, OR, for a short time before returning to Union Lake, MI, where he partnered with his brother, Robert,

in a retail venture. Dick continued his career in retail management for many years until his retirement. The Verkler family

moved to Florida in 1970 residing in Tampa and Sarasota before moving to Lakeland in 1978. Dick loved to sing and was an active

member in the Lakeland chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society for many years, singing bass and performing with the

award winning chorus in competitions across the country. His love of music and fellowship continued at Lake Gibson Church

where he sang with the choir and assisted behind the scenes. Dick was an avid golfer and very proud of scoring 2 'hole-in-ones'

during his time on the course. His love of people and travel allowed Dick to visit many places around the globe, including Europe,

South America and a special trip to the Holy Lands. Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Harlene R. Verkler, his son Rick

Verkler of Chicago, IL, step-daughter and husband Lynda and Joe Coyle of Tampa, FL, step-son and wife, Dan and Cathy Widger

of Waterford, MI, step-son Dale Widger of Tampa, FL, grandchildren Dan and wife Christine, Jen, Taylor and John, great

grandson Mason, nephew Gary Robinson of Memphis, TN, nieces Janet Morgan and Patricia Corradino of Florida. A memorial

service will be at Lake Gibson Church in Lakeland. A private interment will follow in Section 3, Site 175 at Sarasota National

Cemetery with arrangements made by the Neptune Society of Altamonte Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that

Col Vincent Victor Versurah Sr., age 92, passed peacefully July 18th, 2015. Born Sept. 13, 1922 in Granby, CT, he was fascinated

with airplanes as a youth. As an Air Force fighter pilot, he lived all over the world during his 30 year career. He was a flight

instructor during WWII, flew in the Berlin Air Lift, and served in Korea and Viet Nam. For the last 37 years he enjoyed an

active retirement in Tallahassee. He completed his Bachelors from FSU, attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church, and was a

member of the MOAA. He also enjoyed golfing, coaching baseball, cooking, and playing card with friends. Proceeded in death by

his 3 sisters and son Vince Jr. Survived by his wife of 37 years: Gloria, step-daughter: Loreal LeGate and family, step-son: Chris

LeGate and family, granddaughter: Lauren Barresi, and numerous devoted nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial mass at

Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project in

Bob Vicars Sr. of Jacksonville, FL went to Heaven, May 20, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born January 2, 1936

in Burdine, KY and raised in Kingsport, TN. Mr. Vicars graduated from a local community college and received a general education

degree. Mr. Vicars served four years in the U.S. Army in Germany in the late 1950's. He later received certification in

commercial truck driving and worked as a tankerman for Jacksonville Shipyards until 1988 when he retired. He was actively

involved for over 40 years in his Christian faith and was a commissioned Deacon in the Church of God, recently becoming a

3860 Asbury Rd is entrusted with the arrangements. Eleanor was born May 21, 1926, in Dubuque, the daughter of Victor Henry

and Cathryn Mary (Shinstock) Hoerstmann. She married Joseph Edward Vize on April 3, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in

Dubuque. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1988. Eleanor was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,

where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She volunteered her time at the Dubuque Arboretum and Mercy Hospital.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Nancy (Bill) Schofield of Shelton, NE, Richard (Glenda Sue) Vize, Gerald Jerry (Eva) Vize,

both of Dubuque, Sharon (Gary) Schack of Cantonment, FL, Jean (Marv) Junk of Marion, IA, Mary Ann (Gary) Hubanks, of

Dubuque, Joseph Vize of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donald (Kari) Vize, Susann (Tony) Theisen, and James (Stacy) Vize, all of Dubuque,

Hazel Green, WI. Mom loved her family and all their “smiley faces”, we were all her favorites. She had the ability to spoil all ten

of us, and all of her many grandkids. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son in infancy,

Paul Anthony Vizza, age 84, Bradenton, died July 17, 2004. He was born April 10, 1920, in Buffalo, NY, and spent the winters in

Manatee County since 1975 from Cupertino, CA. He moved here permanently in 1986. He retired in 1986 after more than 35

years with Lockheed Missiles. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion Kirby Stewart Post 24 of Bradenton and the

Professional Engineers Society. He was active in boating organizations. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He

was a Catholic. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Margaret; and daughters Marian of Reno, NV, and Karen Williams of

Joseph John Voci, age 84, died on Feb. 14, 2009, at Sarasota, FL. Born July 27, 1924 in Lynn, MA. He attended Lynn English

High School, class of 1942. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served in the South Pacific with the Command Service Squadron.

Upon completion of his war service in 1945, he entered Northeastern University and graduated in 1949 with a BS Degree in

Chemical Engineering. He spent 34 years of his professional career with Arthur D. Little, Inc. (ADL), in Cambridge, MA, where

he retired in 1983 as a Corporate Vice President. Some career achievements with ADL have included: Founder and Director of

ADL Limitada Do Brasil; Managing Director of ADL's Joint Venture with the Saudi Consulting House; and President of ADL's

Management Education Institute (MEI), a fully-accredited graduate school. He was married to Margaret (Frid) Voci with whom

he had five children: Karen Voci of East Greenwich, RI, Joseph Voci of Kearsage, NH, Debra Nelson of Troy, NY; Susan Voci of

Rochester, NY and David Voci of Ipswich, MA; two sisters, Lena Piccole of Lynn, MA and Louise Arrington of Beaufort, NC; and

eleven grandchildren. He resided in Sarasota, FL with his wife, Ilse Goesmann. A Celebration of Mr. Voci's Life will be at the

Dr. Robert Archambeault "Coach Bob" Voege died Monday Sept. 19, 2011, surrounded by his family. Coach Bob loved God, his

country and all things chocolate! He was born Aug. 1, 1926. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Romero Voege;

daughters Kathi (Don) Harvey, Gayle (Rick) Buckman, Debra Voege, Heather Voege and son Rob (Patti) Voege. Those lucky

enough to have called him "Grandpa Funnyface" include Courtenay and Christopher Smith, Jason Harvey, Jennifer Buckman

Brown, Ricky, Samantha and Murphy Buckman, Jon Voege, Robbie, Kai, and Lindsay Voege, Jose, Andrea and Ali Voege, and

Jessie Voege DeVaney along with spouses and partners. Coach Bob enjoyed the privilege of time spent with eight great-

grandchildren; Mason, Cassie, Dalton (Dooley), Supreme, Zoe, Riley, Reagan and Isabella and was eagerly awaiting the births of

three more. A service to celebrate the life of this remarkable man will be at Christ United Methodist Church, 1475 Center

Coach Bob was a graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens, NY and Colgate University. He received his doctorate from the

University of Pittsburgh. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Earl. He spent 28 years as a

Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, tracking the inner workings of the Ku Klux Klan and La Cosa Nostra. Upon

retirement, he continued in law enforcement with the CIA. He competed in the 1964 Olympic trials in judo. An avid Steelers

Fan, Coach Bob raised his family in Brentwood (Pittsburgh), PA, where his own and countless other children were inspired,

coached and mentored in Football, Baseball, Softball, Swimming, Judo and Spelunking. After moving to Hawaii, Bob became

known as the "Kindergarten Cop", teaching physical education in the public school system. Continuing to coach Masters swimmers

at the Oahu Club, he participated himself in the Masters Competitions for Swimming and Track and Field where he garnered

many a Gold Medal, holding National Records that stand today. In 1998, he won the Blue Cross Blue Shield Ageless Hero award

for vitality. President George H.W. Bush presented him with the national award in Chicago. Moving to Venice, FL to be closer to

family and friends, Bob picked up where he left off, coaching with the Sarasota Sharks, the Special Olympics of Sarasota

County, and working as a Guardian Ad Litem. He was a frequent reader and sandbox playmate at the Venice YMCA preschool.

Frank J. Volonnino, Jr., age 89, of Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully on Jan 23, 2015 after an extended illness. He is survived

by his loving wife Poldi of 41 years, a brother Robert, Sarasota, FL., cousins in Texas and New Jersey as well as many other

relatives. Frank was born on May 20, 1925 to Frank Sr. and Mary E. (Macco) Voloninno in Passaic, NJ. Frank married Poldi

(Anderl) Volonnino in 1974. In 1943 Frank entered the U.S. Army / Air Force as a flight cadet. He attained the rank of

T/Sergeant and flew 25 combat missions including 2 over Berlin as a Radio Operator on a B/17 with the 100th bomb group of

the eight U.S. Air Force. Frank graduated from New York University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Frank went

on to serve as a Radio Officer with the Military Sea Transportation of the United States Navy of which he retired in 1989. A

mass of Christian burial will be at St Martha's Catholic Church 200 N. Orange Ave. Sarasota, FL 34236 followed by internment

in Section 5, Site 597 in the Sarasota National Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, and friend, Richard von Seelen. Formerly

of Garden City, and Cutchogue, NY and most recently Sarasota, FL, he died peacefully on January 30, 2011. He was born Aug. 4,

1935. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Carolyn von Seelen, his children and their spouses: Kirk and Natalie, Lisa

and Ken, Karen and Gus, Keith and Suzanne, Lara and David, and twelve grandchildren. Prior to his retirement, Richard was the

President of Pringle of Scotland, a manufacturer of fine cashmere sweaters. Before that, he was a Vice President at Warnaco

for 20 years. Richard proudly served as an officer in the United States Army, and later was the President of the Garden City

Men's Association, which supported high school athletics. After he retired, he was a substitute teacher at Greenport High

School, in Greenport NY. In Sarasota, he enjoyed spending time with his many new friends. Richard will be remembered as a man

who lit up every room he walked in. He was the greatest dad a child could ever dream of, and most of all, he loved his wife with

all of his heart. He will be missed dearly. A celebration of his life will be at The Church of the Redeemer, Sarasota, FL. In lieu

Dale Grant Vought, age 71, Sarasota, FL died at TideWell Hospice House on June 26, 2008 following a courageous battle with

cancer. He was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Johnson City, NY, but moved as a child to Zephyrhills, FL, where he attended Zephyrhills

High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Massachusetts, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and

changed his aspirations to that of being a career missionary. Dale and his wife of 47 years, Anne, worked in Spain with The

Evangelical Alliance Mission until they retired to Sarasota after 35 years of service. Though he had many interests throughout

the years from piloting, motorcycles, handcrafts and coin collecting, his passion was his relationship with his Savior. As this

passion grew, Dale became a missionary church founder, pastor, teacher and author. He is survived by his wife, Anne Blackstock

of Sarasota; and daughter and son-in-law Tina and Eric VanPelt and their three children, Joanna, Matthew and David, who work

in Peru following Dale's example as career missionaries. He is further survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. Services at Grace

Baptist Church, with interrment in Section 12, Site 108 in the Sarasota National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made
