    New to WalkAbout of Eagle River this summer is theirselection of stand-up paddleboards. WalkAbout also

    Visitors and residentscurious about VilasCountys past can findanswers at the historicalmuseum in Sayner.

    An independent, non-profit facility funded en-tirely by donations,mem-berships and memorials,the museum is home tomore than 48,000 memo-rabilia items.

    The museum has beenopen to history-seekingguests for more than 50years.The museum doorswere opened Aug. 16,1959, for the first timeand have been open everyseason since.

    The museums exten-

    sive collection featureseverything from areawildlife to furniture andclothing.

    The museum has a col-lection of military items,including uniforms,medals and memorabilia,and a World War I caval-ry hat. It also has an as-sortment of Civilian Con-servation Corps pho-tographs.

    An extensive collectionof antique dolls, includingLittle Red Riding Hood,Shirley Temple, charac-ters from The Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppinsdolls, as well as a varietyof bridal dolls, are just

    part of the compilationthat can be seen at themuseum. There also is aQueen Elizabeth II dollwhich was created for the

    tractions to the museumis its collection of snow-mobiles, including the

    worlds first snowmobile.The animal and bird

    The agency opened itsThree Lakes locationFeb. 1, 2009, but it hasbeen family-owned andoperated since 1971when it was founded byRobert Machon in ParkRidge, Ill.

    The 54th annualThree Lakes FiremensPicnic will be at CyWilliams Park and thegrounds of the Informa-tion Bureau on MapleLake this Sunday, Aug.7, from noon to 5 p.m.

    The fundraiser for thedepartment will featuregames, prizes, music,food and refreshments.

    Food will includebratwurst and roastedcorn. Beer and soda willbe available. Entertain-ment will be provided bySkip Wagner.

    There will be a num-ber of raffles throughoutthe day, as well as a fleamarket and crafts show.

    Six grand door prizeswill be given away. Tick-ets are $1 each or six for$5, and are available atarea businesses andfrom firefighters.
