How To Accidentally Create A Viral UX Infographic

Jennifer Aldrichwww.UserExperienceRocks.com@jma245

Borrow a curious kid…

What’s the difference between UX & UI?

Well… umm… give me a sec…

Side note: I have NO Artistic Skill

UX vs. UI Bike SketchThis was the result.

Boom.

My Kiddo: “Oh, so UI is the parts a person uses and UX is how they feel when they use it.”

Tweeted!

Aw, they like it!

A few days later…

It went industry viral.

๏ The sketch made the “10 of the Best UX Infographics” list put together by the awesome folks at Usabilla.http://blog.usabilla.com/10-best-ux-infographics/

๏ Major UX and design companies asked to use it in presentations and articles.

๏ Professors asked to use it in their design curriculums.

๏ I was contacted about co-writing a design book. Twice.

Lesson 1: Not An Artist = OK.๏ You don’t need to have any artistic skill

whatsoever to tell a story with an infographic or a sketch.

Lesson 2: K.I.S.S๏ Short and sweet.

๏ Use white space. Avoid clown pants.

๏ Magnifying glasses should not be necessary.

Lesson 3: Brand Your Stuff

Epic Branding Fail.

Lesson 4: Merchandising (Don’t be scared.)

Lesson 5: Use what you’re comfortable with.๏ If you prefer using software, here are some fun

options: Visme Canva Easel.ly Piktochart Infogr.am Venngage

Teachable Kid Moment

In closing…๏ Don’t fear sketch and doodle judgment. There

are people who hate Picasso paintings.

๏ When it comes to infographics, pixel perfection isn’t the goal… clarification of concepts and ideas is the goal.

Thank you!
