Michael work for a tech company as a programmer. Due to the long working hours, he treasured his 14 days’ vacation leaves. Michael likes to travel solo for his vacations as he find matching schedule with his small circle of friends tiring. COMPETITIVE RESEARCH

Summary of research Company research are: Travelling Alone, TravBuddy, TravelMate and TripTogether. Common features: listing of travellers, simple search functions by age, date and destination. User photo and descriptions, hotel/flight search and others trips information. Differentiate from competition More targeted search functions and 1 focus user task. Create a niche market by focusing on 1 main function, that is to connect with other users. Be more inclusive as sociality advances, preferences like sexual orientations are a common feature in most social site and apps.

USABILITY TEST FINDING from wireframes

After usability testing, there are 2 key changes that affect the overall user experience and functionality.

Page 18: Ux mobile apps design (travelr)

USABILITY TEST FINDING

Key changes 1 The search page will be the main display page every time user access the apps instead of only for 1st time user. As usability test confirmed that users tend to do a initial search every time they access the apps.

Footnote: The important of doing usability testing during wireframe stage…

Page 19: Ux mobile apps design (travelr)

USABILITY TEST FINDING

Key changes 2 A “user rating page” is added as all test user wanted to know if that person is reliably and trustworthy. As they feel more safe when contacting the person. Additional time and effort are required to implement the page.

KEY TAKEAWAY

User experience design and visual design is a different thing except from the viewpoint of hiring manager. The final product will be somewhat different from the initial grand ideas. “I want it yesterday” mindset is harder to achieve for UX design. But in general UX design make better products compared with the one without. Most challenging Users testing/interview as it’s hard to arrange time with friends or colleagues to do it. Most rewarding More aware of good design when doing my future design work.
