System Concept Statement

✤ The “Refrigerator Tracker” aims to help housewives and her family members through effective organisation of the refrigerator by allowing the users to check out what is available and the products’ date of expiry.

✤ The problems that users face while using fridge are followings:

• Users are not able to exactly track what they need to buy and what they don’t necessarily need to.

• Users are not able to check the date of expiry of all the food thus resulting into the food decaying.

System Concept Statement

✤ In order to solve such problem

✤ keep records of product information (expiration date and its name)

✤ collecting data from companies of food industry

✤ We are trying to employ a technology of reading alphabet characters from a receipt in order to save such data.

✤ Once the words are read from the receipt, the application will save the name of product and expiration date.

✤ The application will provide information about best grocery store for each day depending on the products that need to be purchased.

Persona

44 years old Housewife Husband, One daughter.

Ji Sun Lee

Her daily routine is simple. She meets her friend who lives up stairs. After drinking a cup of coffee she prepares for dinner. She goes to E mart every week and buys everything she needs. However, she always forgets what to buy and sometimes buy things that are already at home. Her spare time is spent on cooking, cleaning, online shopping, and watching TV.

PERSONALITY : Conservative. Sensitive.: Usually in a hurry. Feels stressful when things do not work as it is scheduled: Feels shy to ask questions to strangers

ABOUT_USING THE FRIDGE : Unorganised. Does not know what is in the fridge and when she bought the product. Mostly throws away one fourth of the groceries.

ELECTRONIC DEVICE USAGE Knows how to use the basic functions. Uses the computer to watch TV dramas, internet shopping and to pay checks. Internet is the only program that is used. Changed to a smart phone because of kakao talk. Still is a fan of ananlouge style phones. Is currently in the stage of learning new functions. Now she is able to download, update and search for applications. Her phone is mainly used to communicate with others via kakao talk, kakao story and phone calls

He is a hard-working, ordinary office worker. On weekdays, he usually returns home quite late due to workloads at office. He ends his day with a can of beer for sound sleep frequently, so he usually drops off by a near-by store on the way home to pick up a can of beer. On weekends, he takes some rest at home rather than going out.  PERSONALITY : Quiet, diligent and devoted to family. Even though he loves his children, he doesn’t have much communication because he isn’t very talkative. Easily stressed. FRIDGE USAGE : Because he doesn’t have much time to spend at home, doesn’t have a sense of what’s going on at home. Lack of communication leads to frequent overload of same product in fridge. Has difficulty in finding food from fridge without wife’s help.  ELECTRONIC DEVICE USGAE : Being a worker of digital appliances, he is very familiar with digital devices. Has a lot of chance to encounter new digital devices in workplace for further study, and has no difficulty in getting used to new devices. He is a fluent user of smartphone and is sort of an early adapter in digital devices compared to his age. He is very interested in new functions of smartphone and is always curious about new functions upcoming. He is also wiling to use many new, attractive functions of smartphone. 

Sung Jin Han48 years ol

She is a high school student, very friendly to her mother. She is one of the best friends for her mom. Like typical girls, she is fanatic of sweets and crisps because she gets rid of stress of studying by eating delicious foods. She can’t endure the moment without sweets for her psychological sake, so she either brings one from home or buys one. PERSONALITY : Very outgoing, talkative. Very organised and she has an obsession towards organising stuffs. FRIDGE USAGE : while at home, she often helps her mom with cooking. She often runs an errand for her mom while cooking, but surprisingly she can’t cook herself. Do rather she helps with small things like placing the food into the fridge and so on.ELECTRONIC DEVICE USGAE : Being a young generation, she spends most of her time with smartphone in her hands. Her push alarms are always turned on because of kakaotalk, and she plays a lot of attention to the push alarms for feat that she might miss some messages. Her smartphone is full of interesting applications, and she downloads most of the suffused applications when seen on SNS. Her phone is connected with her iPad as well, and many functions a re shared in between them.

Pros & Cons : Pros

✤ The packet itself required little amount of labour.

✤ Out of all the components, the before and after checklist was especially entertaining.

✤ After doing the packet, the attendees became aware of their habit of fridge organisation.

✤ The components of packets were well-visualised, so it made it look very attractive.

Pros & Cons : Cons

✤ The categories were not broken down fully. For example, fish wasn’t there.

✤ The result of packet only gave objective facts, so we were not able to get subjective and personalised aspects.

✤ While doing the packet, the attendees’ behaviours were not as natural as usual.

Interview

I usually purchase cheap products or organic products.

On weekdays, I usually go to grocery stores nearby my house. On weekends I tend to go further

because I have my husband to drive then.

I prefer Hansalim mart but go for different place when some products are missing. For

vegetables, fish and meat I visit Nonghyup, for frozen food Costco, and other foods I purchase at E-

Mart. 

For vegetables and other fresh products, I go to

traditional markets. When buying industrial products,

such as flour, I go to big markets.

  I prefer E-Mart the most because there is wide variety of

products, and the price is reasonable.

I especially like the promotion during night time near closing time. Also, it seems that they are selling only fresh products.

Q. What type of mart do you prefer? Why?

I go shopping tweek.

I only purchase small amount at a time when necessary. I go to markets when I run

out of certain food.

I go grocery shopping twice a week; once on weekday

and once on weekend. I don’t have a fixed plan for

grocery shopping.

I go grocery shopping once in two days.

As our family consists only three people at the moment, I only buy small amount as a time. I don’t

buy large amount at once. 

Q. How often do you visit the mart? When do you visit the mart?

I prefer Costco. I don’t go shopping by myself, however, when I go shopping with my wife I always ask to go to Costco. There are lot of

American products and sell in huge quantities.

I don’t use the fridge so I am not familiar…

I go to a close super market. I only buy junk food unless mom

asks for some milk. I only know what my mother told me to eat. I don’t know

what to eat when I am alone so I just eat things that looks

good.

I don’t have any preference. I just follow my wife.

I sometimes prepare food for my family so I know the basic

things in the fridge.

Q. What type of mart do you prefer? Are you familiar with the fridge?

I want to use various apps so I download quiet a few. However, due to my age I am not fluent

in using the apps.I read comics and use

kakaotalk mostly. I don’t have much difficulties in using apps.

I don’t have much difficulty using smart phones. I am friendly using electronic

devices and try out different functions. However, when I have difficulties I ask my

daughter for help.
