    Dear Friend:

Utah's pristine beauty sets it apart from many other states in our nation, but our vasttracts of land mean more to Utah than just a pretty view. President Obama and his land

managers in Washington want to lock up the resource-rich lands of Utah to placate the

demands of extremist environmental groups. And why wouldn't most of these bureaucrats

kowtow to such demands? After all it's not their state and their livelihood at stake.

We are writing this letter because we know that Utah lands issues cannot be a political

bargaining chip for liberals in Washington. We are writing this letter because the federal

government already owns 60 percent of our land, and there are people who would like nothing

more than to keep the public off the land by closing roads and creating restricting Wilderness

policies. We are writing this letter because, quite simply, it is imperative that we re-elect

Senator Orrin Hatch to continue his fight for our rights to use the land.

The first, and arguably most important, hurdle we face in this upcoming election

comes on March 15th. Republican neighborhood caucus meetings will be held throughout

the state on this evening. This may be our only chance to impact a very important decision.

Will we send a Senator with the experience and clout to defend our lands and resources from

    out-of-state interference?

These meetings may be the most important event of this year for those of us who

depend on continued access to the public land, and it is absolutely imperative that we exercise

our civic duty and attend these meetings. If we wish to provide for ourselves and manage ourown destiny we need to be at this meeting to either run as a delegate or support a delegate

who understands the importance of sending Orrin Hatch back to Washington.

Any other candidate for this Senate seat will not have the same clout as Hatch, and they

will be an unknown quantity. How will they vote? Will they defend our lands? Even if they try,

how successful can they really be? With Hatch we know exactly what we are getting: a proven

track record and concrete action to defend our lands.

Just over a year ago the Obama administration announced the controversial Wild

Lands policy. This was a new program dreamed up behind closed doors by this President's

political appointees and their elitist environmentalist friends. They thought they had given

themselves a new tool to lock up more federal lands in the West. Fortunately for all of us, the

members of the Western Caucus fought back and killed the program. Orrin Hatch was

    instrumental in this effort.

In light of this success, and his other accomplishments, Orrin Hatch was recently asked

to chair the Western Caucus Subcommittee on Public Lands. Orrin Hatch is using this position

to draft and enact the Western Land Distribution and Regional Equalization Act as a way to give

states ownership and control of federal lands within their borders. This bill recognizes that

states can manage their land as well as, if not better than, the federal government. The Senator

is using every ounce of his experience and seniority to bring together western senators,

governors and citizen-groups with irons in the fire to fight for this cause.

This will be a win for us, a win for Utah, and a win for everyone who believes that thethfederal government has overstepped the constraints placed on it by the 10 amendment.

The rising cost of energy is one of the most important issues we face. Many people

don't realize it, but Utah has more natural gas than almost any place on earth. Orrin Hatch

believes that instead of subjugating our nation to the whims of foreign suppliers we should be

dedicated to developing the vast resources we have right here at home. He played a key role in

affecting a compromise with the BLM and the EPA that allowed for the development of 3,675

natural gas wells in Utah. Not only did this play a small part in reducing our need for foreign

energy, but it also paved the way to for the creation of more than 2,500 private-sector jobs in

the Uintah Basin. There are plenty of sources of untapped energy in our state that can foster

even more job growth and boost our energy security, and Senator Hatch is committed to thisimportant cause.

Land ownership is one of the fundamental rights of Americans. Recently it was

discovered that many homes near the Scofield Reservoir in Carbon County are on land owned

by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Imagine not being able to own the land underneath your

own home. Fortunately Orrin Hatch has introduced a bill that, when enacted, will allow for this

problem to be remedied by giving these people title to their land.

If you have any questions regarding your caucus location or how you can support Senator

Hatch in your precinct, please call Martine Smith at 801. 554.7670 or email her at

The Hatch Election Committee Office number is 801.797.8200.

We need a strong advocate for us in Washington if we are to have any hope of defending our

right to use the lands. Together let's stand with Senator Hatch to protect our prosperity and

    property.

    Sincerely,
