Walk Away for a Day SuccessHealthWaves celebrated “Walk Away for a Day” on Nov. 17 by encouraging shipbuilders to give up tobacco products in exchange for gum. During the event, the team collected 30 packs of cigarettes and a variety of other tobacco products. In addition, HealthWaves representatives handed out more than 700 “Quit Now Virginia” cards for a free phone call with a quit coach.

“This event was very successful,” said Terry Holbert, HealthWaves Waterfront manager. “Current literature highlights the toxicity of second hand smoke as a health risk to everyone. HealthWaves thought this event provided encouragement and positive options to being smoke-free.”

“The OFI program is a great way for new employees to submit ideas for improvement. The shipyard has made it possible for my wife and I to give my two girls a great Christmas this year.”

Joshua Fuelling (O53)

“OFI participation is strongly encouraged

within my organization because it is a great

way for employees to share ideas with the

company.”

Larry Darden Jr. (M30)
