Using Motion

Page 2: Using motion

Firstly, I opened up Motion, pressed file then new, then NTSC Broadcast SD in order to make it the correct size as my teaser trailer. Once this page opens, I can then go on to clicking the text toolbar at the top, to insert the text.

This small box appears and allows me to click the colour that I would like to drag onto the bar, in order to see the shade I want. At first, we had a grey shade however after watching the teaser we felt that red created more effect.

This inspector tab allows me to change the fonts and add effects and preview it while I'm going along. This was very useful as I have many options of how to change the text around in order to make it look good. This also lets me adjust the size of the font and format the style.

I then decided to add effects to each of the text. I started off with the title “Haunted” and this was done by licking on the text, then scrolling in the library tab and clicking on behaviour. Behaviour allows me to look through the list of effects to choose the most appropriate one.

The effect chosen for “Haunted” was fade in from center, as this allowed the title to give a slow and simple ending to our teaser. I then previewed it by clicking play below the page.

After this, I started adding effects onto the text saying “coming soon” and I decided to use the effect grow/shrink as this added a good impact on the dateline as it appeared out of nowhere, however we also had to add a freeze frame in order for the shrink not to show.

I used the timing tool which was placed on the top toolbar on the right, as this allowed me to make sure that the text and effect comes out at the right time. After clicking on timing, the above image appears at the bottom of the page. This allowed me to play the clip through, and to drag each bar to where I would want it to start or stop. This was very useful as it allowed us to keep changing the effects and timing of the effects around in order to see where it was most suited and what had a better effect on it.

This was the final look of it added onto our teaser trailer.
