Introduction As students begin their meditation practice, they can

incorporate mantras. This is especially helpful if one is having trouble quieting the mind and emotions.

A mantra consists of one or more words that have some sort of spiritual power. The mantra can be repeated out loud, or chanted inwardly. The impact of a mantra comes not only from repetition but also from the very meaning of the word or phrase used. Individuals should choose mantras carefully, since each will have a different impact on their consciousness. When students choose positive and uplifting words with spiritual qualities, they will begin to notice a positive shift in their daily lives.

undesirable effect.

While mantras can help to improve concentration during meditation, students should not feel limited to using them only during practice. On the contrary, mantras become an important tool that practitioners can draw on during any time of need. While individuals may not always be able to sit on a cushion and meditate, they can always turn to their mantra to produce a similar effect as that created by meditation. In this way, individuals can begin to incorporate meditation into their daily lives.
