What is a payment gateway and merchant account? A payment gateway allows customers to buy your activities online by securely transferring funds from your customer’s bank to a merchant account, and then to your personal bank account. You can think of a payment gateway as the online equivalent of a point of sale system; it ensures that customer data and payment information is passed from the buyer to the merchant without getting compromised. A merchant account is a special bank account that holds the funds from debit and credit card sales until they can be transferred to your account as a batch. If you use your personal bank account for your business, a merchant account allows you to separately track your business deposits and withdrawals so you can more easily transact with customers.

Why use Stripe as my payment gateway? By default, Peek manages all payments made through your online booking widgets and the Peek Pro mobile apps. As both the payment gateway and merchant account service, Peek has historically been the intermediary collecting payments from your customers and distributing the funds to your bank account on a set schedule. With Peek’s Stripe integration, you can choose to make Stripe your payment gateway and merchant account provider. Using Stripe for payments has a number of benefits:

Is Stripe right for me? Before using Stripe with Peek Pro, please make sure that Stripe can fully support your payment processing needs.

Does Stripe support payouts in your currency? In order to accept payments with Stripe, your business must be registered as a legal entity in one of the following countries:

• United States • Canada • United Kingdom • Ireland • Australia

The most up-to-date list of supported countries, country support in beta, and a link to request your country to be added to the list is here: https://support.stripe.com/questions/what-countries-does-stripe-support NOTE: You can accept payments from almost all customers no matter where they’re from. Customers in other countries may be charged additional fees by their bank or you can pay Stripe a fee to charge customers in their local currency if it’s different from yours. For more details, visit the following links: https://support.stripe.com/questions/payments-from-international-customers https://support.stripe.com/questions/which-currencies-does-stripe-support

Does Stripe support multiple bank accounts? Stripe only supports one bank account at a time. You will not be able to use Stripe successfully if you need to have different bank accounts set up to receive payments for certain activities or add-ons. If it important to you to get daily payouts, we suggest that you update all of your activities to use the same bank account before connecting with Stripe.

What is the cost of using Stripe with Peek Pro? It is important to keep in mind that Stripe is a third party payment gateway. Therefore, the cost of processing transactions through Stripe is a bit different than it is through Peek Payments.

How does the cost of using Stripe compare with Peek Payments? CHARGE PEEK PAYMENTS STRIPE + PEEK PRO

Peek Commission As agreed to in Peek Merchant Terms of Service

As agreed to in Peek Merchant Terms of Service

Peek Service Fee Per Ticket (does not apply to add-ons)

$1 $1

Peek Processing Fee Per Transaction

2.75% 2.3% + 30 cents

Refunds Non-refundable processing fee

Refundable processing fee

Chargebacks* $15 $15

Multi-Currency Transactions**

Stripe’s processing fees are paid out to Stripe directly. Depending on the terms of your contract, other Peek service fees, processing fees and commissions will still be deducted from your net payout, as before. Stripe only charges per transaction fees – there are no setup fee or monthly usage fees

How does using Stripe affect refunds and charge backs? Connecting Stripe with your Peek Pro account lets you process refunds for your customers directly through Peek Pro. To ensure that Stripe processing fees and Peek fees are fully refunded, make sure to issue refunds through Peek Pro, NOT the Stripe Dashboard. You can learn more about how to process refunds from Peek Pro in our Refunds FAQ: http://pro.peek.com/#/help-with/refunding-a-customer

Chargebacks (as distinct from refunds) are charges disputed by customers with their bank that are subsequently approved by the bank. These are rare and are usually approved only in cases of fraud. Learn how Stripe handles chargebacks here: https://support.stripe.com/questions/how-does-stripe-handle-chargebacks

How does Stripe handle foreign transaction fees? If you accept payments in more than one currency, Stripe will charge you a 2% foreign transaction fee. Customers may also get charged a foreign transaction fee set by their bank. Learn more about Stripe’s foreign transaction fees and international support here: https://support.stripe.com/questions/fees-for-customers-in-other-countries https://support.stripe.com/topics/international

How does using Stripe affect payout cycles and reporting? Stripe collects all funds processed through Peek booking widgets and mobile apps into your Stripe merchant account and deposits them into the bank account on file in Stripe, at the end of each day. Bank transfers from Stripe typically take 2 days for US based businesses. NOTE: the initial payment cycle from Stripe takes up to 7 days. You can find more information about Stripe’s payment cycles here: https://support.stripe.com/topics/transfers-and-deposits The only exception to the above is for bookings on Peek.com. Peek Payments will still pay out funds collected for these purchases on a weekly schedule to the bank account on file in Peek Pro. These bookings will appear in Peek Payment Statements, as before. Note: Go to your Stripe Dashboard to keep track of payment cycles from Stripe. Stripe payments will not show up in Peek Payment Statements in Peek Pro.

How do I stop using Stripe with Peek Pro? You can deactivate your Stripe connection at any time by clicking on the Deactivate button. Doing so will switch you back to using Peek Payments as your default payment gateway. You will start getting paid out from Peek Payments with the next week’s payment cycle. Please note: if you deactivate your Stripe account in Peek, you cannot re-activate your account. This change is permanent. You can always activate Stripe with Peek Pro if you create a new account. In this case, please see above: Do you already have a Stripe account?

I already have a Stripe account As part of the setup process, Peek creates a Stripe account for you that automatically connects to Peek Pro. Creating a Stripe account through Peek Pro lets you take advantage of a lower processing fee. If you would like to use Stripe with Peek Pro, but already have an active Stripe account, we suggest you create another automatically connected Stripe account using this process. You will need to use another email address not already in use on Stripe.
