CBP “The Telework Advantage”

OVERVIEW

• CBP Telework Program Directive 51250-014 dated September 2009• National Treasury Employee Union, Collective Bargaining Agreement,

Article 15, Telework—June 2009• Officially launched in November 2009 • Designated Telework Program Coordinators (TPCs)• Workforce: approximately 60,000 employees nationwide• Eligible to Telework: Over 8,700 CBP employees• Over 90% of our workforce are uniformed employees• As of November 2009, CBP had recorded 134 approved telework

agreements

CBP TELEWORK PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

• In 2010, launched the “CBP Telework Program Awareness Program Initiative” Campaign

• Launched a Telework Program Website• Launched an email address: [email protected]• Launched a series of Telework Program Podcasts entitled “The CBP

Telework Advantage” • Leave and Earning Statements • Launched two surveys (e.g. employee and supervisor/manager)

• Telework Agreement, CBP Form 120 (11/09)

• Safety Self Certification Checklist, CBP Form 121 (11/09)

• OPM Telework 101 Training for Employees Certificate

• CBP IT Security Awareness and Rules of Behavior Training

• Self– Certification of Reduced Public Transportation Incentive Program (PTIP) if applicable

BASIC CBP TELEWORK PROGRAM GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS

• Eligibility to telework is directly connected to the work duties assigned to a position

• Must meet the general guidelines and position eligibility requirements• Telework up to five (5) days per week• Telework and Compressed Work Schedule• Notify timekeeper of telework schedule

• Approved telework arrangements: 3393 • Core telework arrangements: Over 1400• Increase of over 2000 percent• Eligible employees: Over 37%• Telework hours: 48,817 (March 2012) • Telework hours: 600,000 (Between January 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012)• OPM Telework 101 Training: Over 4,700 employees, supervisors, and

managers
