Focus on the structure of HE in Europe. The Bologna process.

The legal aspects for BMD are defined.

BMD structure is fully implemented.

Bachelor has 240 ECTS and Master 60 ECTS.

Two different types of Master are run by Universities: Full-time academic Master (compulsory to access a PhD) and part-time professional Master as a post degree courses (labour market orientated)

New grants and loans for students provided by the State.

The Bologna process in Spain

Page 17: URV Foundation • Lifelong Learning Centre

All Bachelor and Master courses are based on competences.

All courses are structured by ECTS.

This process has been an impulse for the modernisation of the universities structures.

In our universty, new structures to: Internationalize the universitySupport the pedagogical innovationSupport the quality assuranceIncrease e-learning

However, credits can not be accumulated and transferred yet, and we hadn’t started to RPL.

The Bologna Process results

17URV FOUNDATION – LIFELONG LEARNING CENTRE | REUS

Page 18: URV Foundation • Lifelong Learning Centre

LLL courses at postgraduate level have adopted the ECTS system, expanded the competences method and improved the quality assestment, in order to harmonize with BMD.

On the other hand, BMD have not incorporated the LLL perspective in their studies.

The Bologna process has been “successful” in:• Implementing the B-M-D.• Introducing and modernizing the pedagogical methods focused on the students.• Increasing mobility and international projects.

But, generally speaking, LLL has not been included in universities, and the Bologna Process has been “unsuccessful” in :

• Flexibility • Diversity• Accessibility

Some personal conclusions

24URV FOUNDATION – LIFELONG LEARNING CENTRE | REUS

Page 25: URV Foundation • Lifelong Learning Centre

Improving the recognition of prior learning, including non formal and informal learning.

Creating more flexible, student-centred modes of delivery.

Developing flexible learning paths, allowing learners, for instance, to alternate between work and study.

Widening access to higher education.
