FOREWORDUpon releasing our “Art & COlor” issue last year as a special one-year anniversary tribute, we knew immediately the theme would need to become an annual tradition. It only seemed right to celebrate with a bright and colorful pop of artistic creativity that would represent both June and JUly, as we were still bi-monthly. Since then, we’ve published one issue every single month successfully.

While contemplating ideas for what type of editorials to feature in this year’s art & color issue, we decided to go with a range of concepts that our team feels depict a diverse photographic interpretation of the theme. These concepts include everything from black lights and cosmic backgrounds to canvas-painted skin and graphic illustration.

We open our anniversary issue with “Prisms of Light,” photographed by Marijana Gligic, who many remember by her cover art and “Surreal Gardens” editorial last month. This shoot subtly introduces our color concept without overwhelming the eyes too early on. Ausra Osipaviciute’s “Acid Land” starts the party with playful use of color and lighting, while photographer Pieke Roelofs gives us full-on black light dance party.

Cover artist Claudia Link’s “Primary Strokes” uses the body as a paint canvas, as Adriano Campos conveys an artsy interpretation of society in “Technicolor World.” Perhaps one of the more unique creations in the book is Eugenio Recuenco’s “Picturing Picasso,” where modern photographic interpretations of Picasso’s works are showcased alongside the original paintings.

One hot June night, the Uptempo Team and all of our closest collaborators, friends and guests gathered together at New York’s famed Greenhouse Lounge to celebrate the recent release of our incredibly successful Floral Issue and to herald the impending release of our second annual Art and Color Issue and anniversary in a party produced by Eleonora Quizmolli of Sensation of House with an Indayo Group collaboration.

Guests mingled around sipping on cocktails, chatting and listening to music spun by the fabulous Switzerland export, DJ Juli Lee. At Midnight the incredibly talented French-born singer Jenny Bapst took the stage to perform a 3 song-set, the highlight of which was her new single “So Exotic”.
