Expectations1. PARTICIPATE! Encourage student participation & positive

attitude• Dress code - Modest, Neat, & Clean - While your presence

is important to us, you may be sent home for unacceptable dress.

• No midriff (long t-shirts; no bikini tops for pool)• Tank tops /Shorts are okay - use taste (no tube tops, be

careful of length)• Shirts and shoes required. - We require students to wear

sneakers on field trips. • Appropriate for daily activities; dress is not an excuse to

not participate - know the schedule ahead of time. 2. Early Morning - ARRIVE ON TIME! 8:55 am - Especially on

Pool & Gym days3. T-traveling – LINE UP! – Encourage student discipline &

good behavior

Safety Policies1. Please do not share food with students.

• Excuse me, I learned in Kindergarten to share! Why not?

Allergy/contamination concerns!2.Please refrain from use of iPod, cell phone, or any other electronic devices

(at all times, including on the train!). • Excuse me, I work better with music… Can I please use my iPod?

While I appreciate your desire to work better, your full attention is needed on the students and job requirements.

• Excuse me, I have an important phone call!

Please check with teacher and make your call away from the students if permitted.

Safety Policies (continued)3. Please give your full attention on all the students (not only one) and job requirements – save your personal to-do-list for home, including personal conversations.

4. Your eyes and ears are important to us – If you “see something, say something.” (e.g., a child is missing.)

5. All information regarding students is strictly confidential and should not be shared with others, except for teachers and staff.

6. Do not accept inappropriate behavior from students – do not let them hit you or take advantage of your tutoring help!

Safety Policies – Social Networking7. The following offenses can cost you your position, positive references from the program, and more:

• Contact with students on AIM, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking is inappropriate and strictly prohibited! Under NO circumstances should you give out your personal contact information to students or accept theirs or their friend requests if they happen to find you.

• Photos of students are not to be posted online, under any circumstances. Students must be cropped out! Parents, ultimately, have the rights to photos of their students for the protection of the children. They may be your photos but the children are not yours to publish!

• Do not slander (negative talk) against the program, participants, or staff online under any circumstances.

• Please DO use the Facebook Group: Amazing Volunteers of Uplift to connect with past, present, and future volunteers.
