UPGRADING PORTFOLIOCENTER®

The steps below guide you through upgrading PortfolioCenter from a previous version using either a DVD disk or the download from our website. To use the DVD, you must have a DVD-ROM drive.

Important

• This version cannot be installed on Microsoft XP or Microsoft Server 2003 operating systems. Please review the supported technology section of our website before proceeding with the upgrade.

• You can only upgrade to this version from PortfolioCenter 5.5 or higher. If you have a previous version, contact Technical Support at 800-528-9595 for assistance.

BEFORE YOU START

The following checklist can help ensure a smooth upgrade:

Make sure you have PortfolioCenter 5.5 or higher. Check the version by going to Help | About PortfolioCenter.

Make sure your computer equipment meets the minimum requirements for your configuration. See the System Configurations section of our website.

Make sure you have a valid backup of your database before starting the upgrade. See the backup section of our website.

Temporarily disable any third-party anti-virus or firewall software. These applications could impact the time spent during the installation because some of them rely on your input for several steps.

STEP 1. EXTRACT THE FILES FROM THE DOWNLOAD

If you are upgrading from a DVD, go to “Step 2: Upgrade the Server Computer” on page 2.

Note

These steps assume that you already have the PortfolioCenter download file on your desktop.

1 Double-click the PortfolioCenter download file to open the extraction dialog.

2 Click Unzip to extract the files to the folder in the Unzip to Folder field.

Note: The folder name might differ from the image on the right.

This process might take a few minutes.

3 When the extraction is complete, click OK to close the completion message, and then click the Close button to close the extraction dialog.

STEP 2: UPGRADE THE PORTFOLIOCENTER APPLICATION AND DATABASE

Use these steps to install PortfolioCenter on a standalone computer or the database server of a network.

Important

• During this process, the PortfolioCenter database is not available. Perform these tasks when PortfolioCenter is not being used, such as the beginning or end of the workday or on the weekend.

• If you have issues upgrading PortfolioCenter, contact Technical Support at 800-528-9595.

1 Make sure everyone has closed PortfolioCenter.

2 Start the installation.

From DVD: Place the PortfolioCenter DVD ROM into your disk drive. If the Installation Wizard does not start automatically, browse to the installation disk, and double-click the setup.exe file.

From Download: Open the PortfolioCenter extract folder on your desktop, and double-click the Setup.exe file.

3 Click Next to proceed past the Welcome screen.

4 If you are prompted to select a configuration for the computer you are upgrading, select the appropriate configuration, and then click Next.

5 Follow the prompts through the rest of the upgrade.

6 When the upgrade is complete, click Finish to exit the setup.

STEP 3: UPGRADE THE CLIENT COMPUTERS

Important

You need the installation disk or download file to upgrade each client computer.

1 Login to the client computer using an account with administrator privileges.

2 Start the installation.

From DVD: Place the PortfolioCenter DVD ROM into the disk drive.

From Download: Open the PortfolioCenter extract folder on the desktop, and double-click the setup.exe file.

3 Click Next to bypass the Welcome screen.

4 Follow the prompts through the rest of the upgrade.

5 When the upgrade is complete, click Finish to exit the setup.
