Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that third quarter is coming to an end. This year is going by quickly! Thank you for being mindful with your child’s attendance. You are helping to build the foundation of good attendance that will carry over when they enter the workforce as adults.

Curriculum

Many of the teachers are working on Goldilocks and the Three Bears leading into March. This unit focuses on size order, measurement, morning, noon, and night, and retelling the story with proper sequencing. The kids have also gone on scavenger hunts to look for clues to find Goldilocks. The focus letter in this unit is “Rr”.

After spring break, the students will be starting the Farm unit. This unit focuses on the letter “Ff” and prepositions behind, between, and outside. Some language targets in this unit are waddled, farmyard, field, and farmer. Each of our units has a rhyming lesson. This unit’s rhyming words are hay-neigh, bark-dark, moo-cock-a-doodle-doo, peep-sheep, duck-cluck, said-bed.

You can always support the learning in the classroom by asking them what their favorite part of their day was. If you ask, “How was school?”, you will usually get “Fine”. Ask specific questions

Character Assembly

At Williams, we focus on being Respectful, Responsible Learners. Each month, we celebrate students from each class who have demonstrated these traits. In addition to celebrating students who show exemplary character, we celebrate students who have perfect attendance. Our PIE partners come to give the kiddos a high-5 in recognition of their accomplishments. A big thank you to Colton’s Steak House who distributes free kids meals to students who show positive character and McDonald’s who gives out Happy Meal certificates for perfect attendance!

School Safety

School safety is on the minds of parents and educators. We want to assure you that safety is our number one priority. We have many school security features in place to keep students and staff safe. Thanks to the voters in April 2017, our district was able to add even more security features to our buildings and classrooms. In addition to these security measures, staff receives regular training on what to do in the event of an emergency and we practice drills regularly. Learning can’t take place in an environment that isn’t safe. Therefore, safety first, ALWAYS!

Kindergarten Transition

Many of our students will be transitioning to kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. If your family is still going to be in the Waynesville School District, your child’s information will automatically transfer to their kindergarten center. We will be taking all of the students going to kindergarten next year to visit their kindergarten center in May. Your student will be attending one of the following schools, Wood, Partridge, Thayer, East or Freedom. Additional information will follow as we get closer to May. Be watching your child’s backpack folder for notes to help make this transition easier for your family.

Spring!

As the weather warms up, our students will be going out to recess more. Make sure you send your child to school in clothes and shoes that will help them safely play on playground equipment. Also, it is always a good idea to send in a jacket. It is Missouri after all! Thank you!
