Community facility run by the local government,

The site is at approx. 10.5 km from the supersite at Hornisgrinde, where the UHOH scanning DIAL and R Raman lidar systems are located (these instruments having an horizonal coverage of approx. 20 km). Thus, the limited distance between these two sites will allow intercomparisons of Rhine site intrumentation with the UHOH DIAL and Raman lidars.

University of Salford Doppler lidar: Mobile laboratory 4.7 m long and 3 m high, 3.2 kVA, autonomous operation, no personnel on site except for installation, LAN/Internet connection with 1 IP addresses, speed 250kbits/s, no real-time analysed data.

University of Manchester Radio Wind Profiler: 10 x 10 m antenna, power = 3.5 KVA (2x standard 13A plugs, autonomous operation, no personnel on site except for installation, LAN/Internet connection with 2 fixed IP addresses (speed around 250 kbits per sec ) in order to pcanywhere into the site, no real-time analysed data.

University of Salford 14 Channel Microwave Radiometer: Dimensions: 950 mm length x 360 mm width x 630 mm height 3.2 kVA (240 V), autonomous operation, no personnel on site, LAN/Internet connection, no real-time analysed data.

University of Basilicata Raman lidar: Sea-tainer, 6.00 x 2.30 x 3.19 (height), power = 6 kVA (220 V), running water, LAN/Internet connection with 2 IP addresses.

University of Hamburg cloud radar:  2 kVA (230 V), LAN/Internet connection, real-time analysed data, no personnel on site except for installation, no assistance needed onsite.

University of Hamburg rain radar: 2 kVA, LAN/Internet connection, real-time analysed data, no personnel on site except for installation, no assistance needed onsite.

GFZ Potsdam GPS: 0.1 kVA (230 V), slow internet connection, need for indoor space to locate a computer.

ARM radiometer: 0.1kVA (220 V), little water only for dome cleaning, need for indoor space to locate a computer, no personnel on site, assistance needed onsite for dome cleaning, LAN/Internet connection with 2 IP addresses.

University of Bonn Polarimetric MW Radiometer: 0.3kVA (220 V), need for indoor space to locate a computer, no personnel on site, LAN/Internet connection with 1 IP address.

OVERALL ELECTRICITY REQUIREMENTS

Power= 20 kW

distributed over 8 x16 A single phase plugs1 x 32 A triphase plugs

This is already avaialable at the station

We need to implement:

• power distributors• current meters

Hans Münster from University of Hamburg is taking care of it

OVERALL INTERNET REQUIREMENTS

OVERALL RUNNING WATER REQUIREMENTS

Hans Münster from University of Hamburg is taking care of it

5 l/min (already available, but we need to implement pressure reducers)

PRESENT DEPLOYMENT STATUS

All British instruments will be shipped on June 11 and will become operational by June 15.

University of Hamburg cloud and rain radars shipped and installed on March 26.

University of Basilicata Raman Lidar shipped on March 20.

ARM radiometer and GFZ Potsdam GPS to be installed within the next month

Polarimetric MW Radiometer Universität Bonn- ADMIRARI will be installed at the end of May

Radiosonde Station

• Provided by Geraint Vaughan/Steve Mobbs

• Installed on a laptop. The base station comes with a portable antenna. The system receives GPS from sondes.

• Total power requirement small (0.3 kW).

• RS80 sondes avaialble, balloons, parachutes and helium gas not avaialable.

• Gas regulator avaialble, but it is best get the regulator from a German group because a British one might not fit German gas bottles).

• UK groups have no funding to provide people to prepare and launch sondes.

• Personnel of Univ. of Basilicata avaialble for launches up to twice per day.

University of Basilicata Raman Lidar - BASIL

Several new channels have been introduced based on the cooperation with the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. Present measurement capability:• particle backscatter at 355, 532 nm and 1064 nm• particle extinction at 355 and 532 nm• particle depolarization at 355 and 532 nm• water vapour mixing ratio• atmospheric temperature• relative humidity• lidar ratio at 355 nm
