Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and
rapes combined.92% of women surveyed listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assault as their top concern.
Physical abuse involves being physically beaten or harmed. Being subjected to harmful conditions is also considered physical abuse.
Verbal abuse involves being sworn at, demeaned, or threatened. Having your most valued beliefs, such as religion, race, or socio-economic status ridiculed is also a factor in verbal abuse.
21% to 53% of college students have experienced at least one incident of dating violence .
60% of acquaintance rapes on college campuses occur in casual or steady dating relationships.
An estimated 5% of college women experience a completed or attempted
rape in a given year.
In the United States, a rape is reported about once every five
minutes.
44% of victims of sexual assault are under age 18.
15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12.
93% if juvenile sexual assault victims know their attacker.
Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 54% still being left unreported.
Factoring in unreported rapes, only about 3% of rapists ever serve a day
in jail.
