Workshop Goals
Students are placed on Academic Probation at the end of a term if:
Either their grade point average at Cal State LA or their cumulative grade point average (GPA) in all college work attempted falls below a C (2.000).
They continue on Academic Probation until their Cal State LA and cumulative GPA is 2.000 or higher - or
They continue on Academic Probation until they are disqualified in accordance with the regulations for academic disqualification.

What determines Academic Probation? - the Cal State LA Online Catalog
Academic Good Standing = 2.000-4.000 GPA
Academic Probation = 1.999 and below
Academic Disqualification = (depends on units taken)
Types of Academic Standing
A cumulative GPA is the calculation of a student’s course work from all schools attended.
A Cal State LA GPA is the calculation of a student’s course work done at Cal State LA only - aka: “residency.”
All students have both, but only students that have transfer work will have two different GPA calculations whereas freshmen will have the same GPA on both accounts.
If either GPA falls below a 2.000 - automatic Academic Probation.
Cumulative GPA vs. Cal State LA GPA
Happens when:
A student’s Cumulative or Cal State LA GPA falls below 2.000 and that studentwill remain on Academic Probation until their cumulative /or Cal State LA GPA reaches or exceeds 2.000.
Recommendation:
Students who are eligible for continued enrollment can be limited to a course load of 12 units or less. (Students can be limited until Good Standing is reached = 2.000+).
Graduation Requirement: Must achieve at least a 2.000 in their cumulative and Cal State LA GPA to
graduate.
