ART EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONSGallery Talk with Gerald FerstmanWednesday, September 17UHCL Art Gallery6 p.m.

On view in the gallery August 22 – October 23, 2014, Kentucky-based Gerald Ferstman’s new series of paintings explore the current conflict in Syria. The artist’s abstract, gestural shapes and bold colors suggest a youthful innocence in his desire for peace and civil liberties, but the brute narratives themselves make no attempt to disguise the horrors of the world. The public is invited to learn about the work directly from the artist during a free gallery talk on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. The talk will be preceded by a reception, with light refreshments served. Free parking available in the Visitor Lot.

Opening Reception: 2014 UHCL Faculty ExhibitionThursday, November 13UHCL Art Gallery5-7 p.m.

The 2014 UHCL Faculty Exhibition features work from current full-time art and design instructors at UHCL, as well as ceramic sculpture by recent retiree Nick J. de Vries. All are encouraged to visit the gallery to celebrate their achievements during a free opening reception. Free parking is available in the Visitor Lot.
