Despatchers word uitgedaag om al dieboomstamme in die hoofstraat in pienk
te tooi ter ondersteuning van die Pienk Bomevir Pauline liefdadigheidsprojek.
“Tot op hede het 96 dorpe hulself verbindom aan die 2014 projek deel te neem. Besig-hede, organisasies en die publiek is vinnigbesig om klaar te speel met die sowat 70kmpienk materiaal wat vanjaar beskikbaar ge-stel is vir die projek,” sêAdri vanNiewenhui-zen van die Pienk Bome vir Pauline projek.
Op Despatch is daar ’n span van vyf watdié projek op die dorp dryf en graag wil toe-sien dat die hoofstraat se bome almal pienklappe omhulle stammehet voor die einde vanOktober.
“Ons het reeds 300 meter van die materiaalop die dorp verkoop. Mense kan nie sommerenige pienk lap vat nie. Dit gaan juis om diespesifieke materiaal te koop ten bate van dieprojek,” vertel Adrie Ferreira, die hooforga-niseerder van die Despatch projek.
Volgens haar moet alle materiaal aan dieeinde van die maand van munisipale bomeverwyder word, en sal dié lap verwerk wordvir projekte ter ondersteuning van kankerly-ers op die dorp.
Petra van Eeden van die VLV-Despatch sêhulle het reeds nege bome se stamme in diehoofstraat in pienk getooi, maar wil soveelmoontlik bome nog in pienk kry.
Besighede wat sover die projek ondersteunhet sluit inDataScout, ScreenView, 7/11Des-patch, Handy House, Salon Jonel en dieUD Nuus.
Die nasionale Pienk Bome vir Pauline fees-vieringe is op 17 Oktober. Eerskomende
Sondag word ’n spesiale diens in NGK Retief-gemeente gehou. Die doel van die projek is ommense bewus te maak van kanker en omfondse in te samel om toegang tot kankerbe-
handeling te bied vir mense wat met kankergediagnoseer word.
Die pienk materiaal is R20 ’n meter enmense kan besluit hoeveel van die boomstam

The Uitenhage SPCA has been the tar-get of criminals the past two weeks. As
it is a welfare organisation, each loss theysuffer is felt deeply and they do not havethe financial back-up to replace items.
Last week the wheels of all the SPCAvehicles were stolen, grounding the asso-ciation’s daily services for a day and theywere not able to attend to calls of distress.
“Last night (Monday night) we had an-other break-in! This time both our wash-ing machines, microwave oven and kettlewere stolen,” said Tiffany Dickson fromthe Uitenhage SPCA.
“Please, we urgently need the generosi-ty and kindness of the public once againto assist in replacing the two semi-indus-trial washing machines.
It is much needed as we need to wash
the kennel blankets on a daily basis. Themicrowave and kettle are also essential.”
According to Koos Kroucamp, an officerat the Uitenhage SPCA, the conditions inwhich the break-ins happened and the factthat the dogs did not bark, “gave us theimpression that it might be someone whois familiar with the SPCA environment.This will not stop and will happen againand again unless we can instal an efficientalarm system.”
Once again an appeal is made to the pub-lic and local business please to assist withthe installation of a professional alarmsystem.

take to raising awareness for cancer.
The team will be sporting pink arm bandsduring their Fridaymatch in support of thosefighting cancer as well as to urge fans to join
in the Algoa FMBoardwalk BigWalk for Can-cer which the Kings players’ will also be par-ticipating in, on Saturday, October 25.The Algoa Boardwalk Big Walk for Cancer
proceeds will go to the unique Igazi Foun-dation, in the hope of launching a newpediatric oncologyward in the Port ElizabethProvincial Hospital, by the end of theyear.

The BUCO Uitenhage Cricket Club is pres-ently enjoying its 153rd season in the PortElizabeth and Uitenhage and surroundingarea cricket leagues.
After operating out of the then SwiftsSportClubpremises inLowerDrostdyStreetfor some 40 to 50 years, the club has enjoyedthe tranquil ambient Skillicorn complex onthe corner of Mosel Road and Park Lanesince moving there during the summer of2000/2001.
The clubhas at its convenience two cricketfields plus turf practice nets which areshared with the boys from the local “Collegeon the Hill”.
Cricket is played competitively on mostweekends during the summer months, andthe club caters for young men from all com-munities in Uitenhage and surrounds. Prac-tices take place every week Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays and all aspiringcricketers are welcome to attend and join inthese activities.
